Allow All Males to Breed within the Pack

Posted 2020-11-08 16:27:21

I 1000% support this! I was really sad when i found out i could only breed one male, as i was looking forward to breeding multiple wolves within my pack to keep my alpha's lineage clean. i like breeding multiple wolves for lore purposes and to prevent inbreeding. I agree that there's usually only one breeding pair in a real life wolfpack, but like Springpaw said, this is a game with talking snakes, a friendly bear who is more than willing to help cure an easy meal known as a pup from illness, cross-pack breeding, specific tasks (especially the herbalist), etc. There is a lot of fantasy elements in this game and having this weird, realistic function of only one breeding male per pack is extremely out of place. Makes sense for a lion game, as in real lion prides all male offspring leave the pride, but not for a wolf game.

That's just my opinion though XD

@Mossfoot: That's taking it a little bit too literally and is not exactly accurate. IRL, it is winter where wolves have most success in their hunts and struggle in the summer.

The elements of realism and fantasy definitely feel pretty skewed here, yeah. Some aspects of the game mix it all pretty well, but it's a bit of a sore thumb here.

@finnfinite I looked it up and that's really neat! I always heard most pack structures were essentially familial units, so multiple breeding pairs were rare. It's interesting we're finding that's not the case in all regions.  It makes sense resources play a huge role in the number of breeding pairs. So just another reason to support this suggestion :D

Just gonna go ahead and pile on the support. It bothers me that there is just one breeding male like on Lioden, so to combat that, I'm trying to make an 'alpha pair' that only breeds, which is still useless since I'm gonna have to eventually  use a stud. It also means I'm gonna have to rely on selling some pups. So I've been scouring threads and the trading center to find not one, but t w o good wolves that would  consistently(and hopefully) make profitable pups. The reason I'm choosing to do that is because of what has already been listed:  semi-realism (and I say semi because I'm still paying for studs), to avoid inbreeding, and, most importantly so that the game feels more unique from Lioden for me. I think the breeding cooldown suggestion for both males and females is especially a  good idea to prevent puppy-pile up, and having a breeding pair in my pack would be fine by me because then, I could still have my alpha pair(I also would love a beta pair for again, variety) and a stud, who might actually be worth using to bring in more cones, as opposed to just relying on pups.

You also have my vote for it.

Of course Wolvden is not Lioden. I don't find the breeding mechanics that bad there. But Wolvden shouldn't have the same mechanics in my opinion. The problem is that if there is only one breeding male, then you only need one per account. The others are, to put it stupidly, garbage. Of course, males have a small advantage with energy. While females pregnant and nesting do not have this but that is justifiable. In the trading center I sometimes see really great male puppies that are almost given away just because they are male. Nobody wants them and in the end they are chased away. I don't think that was intended that way ...

100% Supported! I feel it would make the whole personal lore ideas and breeding mechanics a lot more fun.

I think it'd be nice if, for a fee, you can select more breeding males. Don't let all males breed, but just some, if you have the money. Why? Because like you said, it's a pretty uncommon case for other wolves in the pack to breed (Even though, yes, they are already bending that rule) so it'd not only make it slightly less unrealistic than it already is, but it'd make it much less big of a change and thus easier for the devs to accept. It's also really annoying when you set a breeding male and immediately after get a much better male or realize you should've set your main to the breeding male because you made their freaking base a custom base and perfected their markings to look beautiful and TOTALLY forgot it'd be a complete waste of genes since he's MALE and thus CAN'T BREED NOW BECAUSE I HAVE NO GC SMH
*Cough* got a bit out of hand but that's how I feel

I don't feel like we should have to lock other males behind a paywall. There will be plenty of GC to spend perfecting their looks if we can breed them more freely. I really hate the idea of just having more breeding males, the role, as that will actually ruin the stud market.

Also why do you think the Devs are against change? @Seranner They seem very open minded to me, after all this forum we are having this discussion in was supposed to be a later addition. But the Devs changed their minds.

support!  making non-stud males only available for intra-pack breeding with a cooldown to prevent puppyspam would be awesome!!  whats the point of (feasably) having infinite males if they cant do anything other than keep an eye on your breeding male's pups??  i can just use females like lioden!
