Traded Puppy Survival Grace Period

I don't really buy pups (and I tend to care for the ones that I sell) but I can see this as a huge problem. I support a grace period!

I am trying to make up my mind on this and I struggling.

In general, whenever you buy a pup, there is a chance of them having a low surival rate. I don't think that should change.

But I also agree that it is unfair to rollover when you have a new pup in your den you didn't know about and couldn't protect before rolling. On the other hand, have an immune pup for rollover could be abused.

I wonder if the protection should be up to the seller. So a pup bought will rollover with the survival it had in its previous den. that would make sure it survives but only if the seller cares about it. That could maybe work?

I was concerned about this as well but it only came to mine because I made such a high offer I ended up not getting the pup but I would be more willing to offer knowing the pups would be safe

Also I agree that it should only apply the first time the pup enters a new territory

I think people might have to get used to checking survival on pups; it's the same with checking hunger/mood on wolves in general. If you are unlucky you will buy one at 20% both when you didn't plan on it.

I don't like the idea of giving pups a 1-time trade immunity. I have gotten pups from breeding deals I would want to later sell which would make it harder with that limit. Or it's a gifted pup etc.

But I think it would highly discourage pup trades if people only buy completely protected pups. I know I have a few pups I roll the dice on every RO but am selling in hopes of getting some sc back. So it's not a good suggestion really.

For a minute I thought getting the chance to adjust pupsitters before rollover could work? Maybe only being able to add pups, not rearranging? Not a good solution either though, to be honest.

I support, because I don't think it's just a matter of "well check the pup before offering." What if you offer on a pup with 80% survival, but the owner was hoping for a better offer and waits a few days to accept. By then, the pup could have very low survival rate, and when you RO the pup could be dead before you even get to see that your trade was accepted, a WEEK after you offered.

I also wonder if there should be something equivalent for adult wolves that aren't well cared for, so the seller accepts the offer while the buyer is offline and the wolf runs away on the buyer's RO.

Like yes the cooldown/protection thing could be abused, but it seems so much worse to have someone pay actual real money for a wolf and then lose it from something they can't control.

Maybe it's a one RO death/run grace period, where the wolf will retain its survival chance/hunger/mood but still be protected for that RO, so the new owner will still need to handle the neglect. Also, there is a cooldown for this protection period, so it can't just be done back and forth (but also after the cooldown the wolf/pup could be sold with protection once again.)

Alternatively, maybe pups under like 50% survival and wolves about to run from neglect can only be autobought, otherwise the seller physically can't accept a trade offer until the pup has more survival or the wolf isn't about to run. I don't presently see how this could be abused?

I support this.

I had an awful scare where I bought out a pup, not realizing it could come to me with completely 0 chance of survival.  Even designating a dedicated new pupsitter only brought it to 60% chance of survival, which was nail-biting given how precious sc is currently. It's only chance I didn't lose the pup and the sc in one of the next two rollovers.

She made it, but I imagine if a newbie to Wolvden came, bought a pup, and had that happen, it'd make them rage-quit.  Heck, I might have rage-quit.

Support! Could even have a feature where if a puppy is listed in a trade their survival chance is locked at a certain percentage, maybe not necessarily 100%, to reduce the chance of it being bought and then immediately dying. I just accidentally bought a puppy with a rather low survival % and even with a dedicated pupsitter it's still at risk. Doesn't seem fair to punish buyers because the seller couldn't be bothered to take care of their wolves.

I think a trading locked survival could be abused very quickly. simply make the buyout 1000gc and you have a "free" pupsitter.

I wonder if putting a survival limit on trades might work? Any pup needs to have 60% survival at least as an example. That way you can save with 1 new pupsitter (+60) and a 15% penalty would still keep it alive. That's more of a stopgap than a true solution though since it doesn't solve the rollover problem.

I think just having the survival buff buyer side and no ability to re-list a pup in trades during that cooldown would prevent most of the abuse.

It really does feel like we're gambling- some with real money. Which is in itself concerning considering there are players under 18 here.

What about some sort of 'locked in limbo' feature? Like an extra step of acceptance? The seller accepts the trade and gets your payment, and you get sent a notification that your offer was accepted, but the pup hangs out in limbo in the trade center until you accept possession of it? You can't refuse at this point, but the pup doesn't enter your den until you're ready for it. It doesn't age or gain or lose survival chances, but it doesn't roll a death chance either. I think that would mostly remove abuse of the system, because the pup wouldn't age during the grace period, so trading it back and forth with someone else wouldn't do you a lot of good. And then the trade/chase cooldown wouldn't start until you'd accepted the pup into your den.
