Button to delete topics

Button to delete topics

I figured if we are able to edit our topics then we should be able to delete them too. I thought that might be helpful for a lot of people, including myself. It does not have to be a deletion button per se but a feature to flag your topic for deletion would be wonderful because the alternative (which I have been doing) is submitting a ticket through the Modbox every time I want something deleted, which is annoying to myself and probably to the moderators too.

I want to clarify: What I meant by deleting topics was the creator of the topic can delete their own topic. If someone posts to a topic that is not their own topic they will be unable to delete their replies since they could cause problems and then remove evidence as some people have pointed out.

Update: I know a few people have mentioned not wanting there to be a delete button if someone has replied to the topic. I have to agree with this because if someone did not want their replies being removed then it should have been saved elsewhere since it is not their topic therefore it should not be their choice. Also, for example, if someone did not put a lot of effort into their reply and replied with a message reading "Thank you for trading with me!" then it seems silly that factor alone would make the topic owner ineligible to delete their own topic.

I support the ability to delete topics ONLY if no one else has yet replied to that topic. Otherwise you could delete other people's posts, which they might have put quite a bit of thought or work into. Similarly users should only be able to delete posts within topics if it is the last post in a thread.

Support if it's set like Coal said! Else it would also be way too easy to remove evidence of wrongdoings.

Support for deletion, no support to what Coal has said. When I post a picture on social media and someone comments on it, I can still delete the picture and wipe all of the comments with it. If someone is posting some rulebreaking/nasty stuff on the forums, you should take a screenshot and modbox it. Maybe, the threads could be stored for a few days after deletion in a database of sorts, just sin case it's reported, mods can still check it.

Support the idea of deleting. Don't support the added suggestion. Made many threads already that are an auction or event that ends, and they just clutter the forums if they don't get deleted by mods. Would be nice to help tidy up!

Agree with Coal: topics can be deleted if there are no replies; once there has been a reply, no deleting. Too easy for people to start a ruckus and then bail out, removing the evidence. No support for broad ability to delete.

Support. This is a thing on LD and basically it flags the post for deletion for the mod team. If I'm correct, it essentially is only mods/admins(maybe even just admins) can delete a post, so that system more or less made a simple way to flag a post instead of having to do something like "DELETE" or whatever as the title like a lot of sites have to do.

I’m torn because on the one hand, yes I want to delete my own dang topics without the mods having to do it for me, but I also understand the point of view of not wanting people to start shit and then delete their wrong-doings...

so perhaps this could be toggled by forum? For example, I have a seasonal YCH thread over in art sales. The date has passed, everyone has their pieces, and I’d like to delete the topic to help keep that busy part of the forum near and tidy! I’m done with that thread, so it’s just sitting there cluttering things up—someone deleting their own dead thread hurts no one!

I like the " flag for deletion " add on more than  deleting yourself.

I think a problem could be if you could just delete any topic, is you could put a wolf/item/stud auction up and then if you weren't happy with the offers just delete and bail out without a trace? Also art topics (I would hope this isn't the case), someone could take a commission and get payment, then delete the topic, and unless everything was reiterated in a PM that the mods could see proof of, then the payment would be lost and you wouldn't get the art.

I'm fine with the suggestion of only deleting topics with no replies. But in other scenarios I think the suggestion for flag for deletion is much better.
