Button to delete topics

YES! I fully support this. I don't think we should be able to delete our own posts automatically, but a way to flag them for deletion would be wonderful. That way mods can review topics and if they seem a bit fishy they can deny the request or something.

It would be nice if we had the option to delete ourselves for sure. Like a few other users have expressed, I've already had some completed sales topics that are just hanging out and will never be used again :B

I've been on some forum sites where a user can "flag" or have a button to click somewhere on their topic to have it deleted, but they have to write a short response to clarify why - for the moderators. Like, for example, a completed auction thread could be flagged for deletion with the reasoning : "auction completed, topic no longer necessary."

Support for deletion - it's pretty useful and basic functionality, even for threads other people have posted in.  E.g. pretty often someone posts something, someone else points out to them that it's in the wrong forum or a repeat or otherwise a mistake, and that shouldn't make it impossible to delete.  Same for finished sales or that kind of thing.

However I see the point about now wanting to let people hide problems they caused. So here's my proposal: whenever someone deletes a thread, the thread is only hidden, and everyone who posted in the thread gets a notification saying the owner deleted the thread and a link to the thread where they can see what was there and whether they object to the deletion and want to modbox it or save some information or whatever else. The thread can get fully deleted a week later if that's necessary, although it could also stick around in hidden form forever.

(I think the hidden thread functionality already exists - I heard of some drama threads getting deleted in a way that let people who posted in them still access them)

I think this is better than flagging for deletion, because if you flag for deletion, then the mods would have to be responsible for e.g. checking whether the auction is really finished and whether everyone got the wolves/items/etc they bid on, which seems like a lot of work.

Support!

The Flag for Deletion button, like on Lioden, would be awesome! It essentially gives the mods the heads up that you're finished with a topic and want it to be deleted.

As the author, you get to make that call. If you're a replier and you really wanna save what you said, then you should copy and paste it somewhere secure that you know won't be deleted... otherwise, on a forum topic, there's always a chance your replies can be deleted.

Support a deletion button, personally don't support the idea of making threads undeletable once someone else has posted.

I support a 'flag for deletion' button, definitely!

I personally don't mind leaving it up to the mods to delete instead of us outright being able to do our own... it's worked fine that way on Lioden for all this time.

I support a 'flag for deletion' button as well.

If we were able to delete forums ourselves, I feel as if people would abuse it when creating somewhat controversial topics. It could make people evade warnings or whatever else, action by moderators.

So, a 'flag for deletion' button is a good compromise.
