I am going to assume either English is not your first language or you are very new to games like Wolvden. That or this is entirely a joke... in the case of being serious though, I'm going to leave that assumption, and I feel the need to be transparent about my assumption lol I'm going to take you as serious, as I know, many years ago, I was the one asking this same question.

There's honestly mulitple ways you might find people defining the term, but the simplest is this: roleplaying = to play, as in act as, a role or character other than oneself. I guess that's the safest literal definition.

To better explain what it means largely in context to this site, or similar ones, where you can find say the "Roleplaying" section in, my definition for it has always been collaborative story telling, in other words coming together as a group to build a world and a story within it. I personally don't do any forum roleplaying, but have lots of experience in what is called table top role playing games (ttrpg), which use the same idea but often with defined rules and mechanics that help to progress the story along (they also usually have a Game Master of some sort, who is someone who helps move the plot along and provide details, or otherwise gives judgements on the interpretations of the rules).

To further elaborate, honestly, this entire game is role play. You are controlling a wolf who is leading a pack, exploring as your lead, sending others off of their tasks (so your pupsitters, herbalists, scouts, hunters, mentors). There is a sub-sect of people who would not define this as role play, as role play is almost more in-line with method acting (getting into the head of a character and behaving/living/thinking as them), whereas games like this you are just yourself controlling a character who in effect is an avatar/embodiment of yourself. However, I'd make the argument that is entirely dependent on how you as an individual play the game. The same can be said for actors on a stage: depending on their style of acting, they may be roleplaying (improv or method acting mainly), or they are simply acting as directed to them by the script and director.
