Limit the Number of Trades a Player Can Post

Posted 2020-11-03 16:12:47

I can see where you're coming from but I'm not sure I support 100%. As someone said above, trades stack up easily even with legitimate sellers.

I'll have 20+ trades going at once just selling puppies after a major baby boom, then I sell the salves that my herbalist crafts. It adds up fast for more major players or those who like to play the market.

No support here.

Sometimes I'm just looking to buy one of something and I'm glad we have options and competitive pricing. Also, selling things for cheap or trading my GC for SC is a big source of SC income for me as a newbie as well.

I fail to see how a reasonable trade limit is punishing anyone? I'm not saying people should only have 1 trade up or anything. A limit of 30-50 seems pretty darn reasonable to me? Why would you need to have more than that? Why would you need to flood the market with 100+ trades?

There are literally over 1100 pages of trades and many of them are weeks old, have no price, are an inactive player, etc. It makes searches very slow and laggy, it makes sorting through them difficult given the search parameters because people will put something up and just leave it there for ages. Heck, I did a search recently and found 3 pages of 1 type of medicine with no prices and all of them were about to expire and not one had an offer. That was literally 100+ trades from someone who wasn't even active for 2+ weeks clogging up an already very busy system.

And, as FraidyCat said, it's not as if the economy is going to go away or people are going to stop buying if the trades are a bit more limited and efficient. If anything, I would bet that trades would be bought out a lot faster since they would be seen, the market would be easier to check, and things wouldn't get buried as easily.

Also, I'm not really sure why anyone thinks this has anything to do with "punishing people for making currency"? I don't think I've said anything about "darn those people selling GC". I used it as an example of people putting up 60+ trades at a time, which seems pretty unnecessary to me. If they only put up 50, there is literally no reason they can't put up more as soon as things are sold? Exactly how would it be stopping anyone from making SC/selling items if there was just a minor limit on how many trades to put up?

Maybe punish was the wrong word, sorry.

Newer players are often in a struggle to make currency, so they can price things higher and have more things listed. It could be disheartening for a new player to get hit with a limit when they are just starting out and listing items to sell. Established players can have a LOT of pups, wolves, items and currency they want to sell, and they add up quick. Low limits are restricting their sales, and they might have to chase pups to free up space if they can't sell them quick enough. Items are great for making currency, and it makes sense why if they have a large amount of something, they try and sell it in lots of trades. At the end of the day, unless they gain traction through the forums, the trade center is their income.

Eventually the inactive player's trades and other inactive trades will leave though? I guess an option could be reducing the time limit trades are active, and then active players will just re-list them. I don't think the search is really that awful in all honesty. Start really low and raising is quite efficient. And as I said, setting a GC/SC buyout to 0 will limit the shown trades to the opposite currency, which may half how many are shown in the result.

People aren't playing all day though. If someone puts up 50 trades, it's probably because they're going to sleep/work/something and expect them all to get bought out by the time they're online again - they're not going to be there to replace them as soon as they're sold.

And they may want to sell other things, or wolves, in addition to their main bulk thing. I'm not one of those "multiple identical trades at once" people at all, but I'm currently selling 7 wolves and 21 other things - mostly various different items or different numbers of them. Sure, that's under your limit, but I have 5 pregnant wolves right now, so what if I end up with 20 puppies for sale next week?  I don't want to have to cancel my other trades to put up my wolves.  I could see a limit of like 80-100, but I don't think that would really accomplish what you want anyway.

I think what's really going to help is a way to sort by price-per-unit or search for good bulk deals - the people posting 50 identical trades might love to post 5 trades of 10 items each instead, except trades of 10 items are really hard to sell because they're not findable when you search for low prices.

Support but with a higher limit. Maybe like 100. High enough that most users- even those going through a lot trading and exchange wont be affected, but enough that people can't set up hundreds of trades for random supplies and objects.

It wont remove people who really want to bulk sell a lot of items, or those doing a lot of trades, but will stop what people from flooding out multiple types of items at once and prehaps cut down a little bit on this

I can't really say I support this fully. While I understand the principle  behind it, I feel like it would be a bit off putting for many to be limited. A lot of people do put up a lot of trades before bed/work/school/vacation/ect. and limiting that could be frustrating to those people that only have a limited amount of time a day, and would otherwise not be able to be on to do more trades if the others sold.

Now on the other side of this, I do get frustrated when the first page or three are completely swarmed with the same person posting singles of everything. However it passes quickly, and new things over take those usually within less then a minute.

Though on that.. if something like this where passed I would prefer to see it with a higher cap. Maybe around 100. It wont stop all of these things from happening, but it will cut back on some of it, and give people more reason to choose wisely what they put out, without making it challenging for those that do only get the chance to get on once or twice a day.

yeah the cap would need to be really high for me to agree that this would be a good idea... so for now, no support. sorry. If people breed a bunch of wolves and need to unload them... it's only fair they have the option to do it at the trade center. you can easily end up with 30-40 pups if you like to breed. even more. It wouldn't be fair if you cap it at something low and then they can't also sell their excess carcasses, gc, rmas, etc.

I think this problem can be fixed by making shops or auctions, or at least categories for the trading center where wolves and items aren't on the same page.

I cant support this, I have a lot of trades up a day (of course not all the exact same). Being limited to how many trades I can post would just make trading even more frustrating than it already is. Maybe only limit currency trades? But limiting item/wolves trades seems hindering imo.
Trading atm is already frustrating enough with the market constantly changing, I dont need something to make it harder for me to sell items
