I found Khaki looks bad with dark markings. There are certain bases I don't like as much like Khaki or any "greenish" bases but a lot of the look depends on the color of markings. Khaki with black marks tend to be ugly but one with cream marks looks fine. |

I dislike many of the colourful unnatural bases, especially the green ones alas. Also often find merle patches unattractive, especially brown merle patches as it makes the wolf look 'dirty'. |

Yeah, I’m not a fan of any of the green bases or markings either. I also don’t understand the appeal of merle, the only time it looks kinda nice is white merle against a dark-ish gradient base (like grulla) with no other markings - but even then it’s still a bit meh. |

I seem to see a pattern of the greens with everyone. The more people that seem to dislike the green the more I find I like them. I even started a project for them. I want to get the "uglist" Khakis I can get out of all of this project and try to get a line into the top 10 on the leader board this is going to be interesting. |

All markings and bases can look good if done right. So I don’t really have a least favourite base. But merle has to be my least favourite marking. I don’t hate merle, it can look good. But they’re very overrated which caused them to be my least favourite marking. |

I really don't like red markings or merle. The shade of red used just seems too bright for me and merle is just too busy, especially at higher opacities. I think I have seen a single merle wolf I have liked and it was a subtle one. I haven't looked at the bases enough to have many opinions on the ones I dislike there. |

@Ashburr: You sound like you like Khaki wolves the same way I love to collect ugly Christmas sweaters. I was even thinking of making myself one of those Bucilla kit sweaters just so I could win all the ugly for Christmas! |

I really dislike white as a base. It's just so bland. There's a lot of really pretty off-whites that are just barely different from white but make such a big difference. I also just can't stand snow. I've never seen a good use of snow as a base. I also don't really like merle. I ADORE merle in dogs in real life but here it just doesn't really work for me. I think it looks more like paint splashed onto the wolf than actual merle. Especially on the face. But it can be ok on a low slot with lower opacity and it blends in with other markings. But it's hard to pull off |

I'm really not a fan of the "stripe" markings - belly stripe, back stripe, rump stripe, etc. - which give sharp, distinct lines and in my opinion can tend to make a wolf look a bit jagged and sort of... edgelord. Speaking of edges, the "edge patch" markings have the same effect, as do the "nose bridge" markings. I'm also not a fan of the merle markings, as they can make a wolf look very muddy, and I in particular dislike how merle patches gives a wolf spectacles. As for bases, there are basically two "classes" I'm not keen on -
Any of these markings and bases can look lovely in the right combinations, of course! |
