Too Many Wolves, Not Enough Roles.

Posted 2024-06-22 11:22:29
@Darklily

I think that's more of a pack size problem? At most, I'll have three, maybe four wolves in heat at once? And I usually only end up keeping one or two puppies from that litter, if any. That leaves me with maybe five puppies that need sitters.

Obviously, bigger pack = more puppies. A pack your size would have 4 hunting parties out at once (so 20 wolves). 2 scouts and 1 herbalist is 23 wolves. Even if you did have 20 pupsitters, you would have 43 wolves, and 27 of them would be left roleless. There's still not enough roles, even when you have litters of puppies coming out daily.

I wish I only had 43 wolves lol (Currently at 73, though I have a few R&C to chase today). I fully realize it's a pack size problem, but I'm able to make by, with only very occasional issues for food/toys. I'm making averages there, obviously. I'm often breeding ~12 wolves around the same time, so averaging out to 3-4 pups each is around 40 pups, which I prefer to assign pupsitters with just one pup each (because I'm paranoid; I've lost rare muties from putting them with a newbie pupsitter by accident). This has happened from a: pack size and b: the fact that many of my wolves are around the same age, or at least batches of the same age (within a few rollovers), so the females are often in heat together or very close together. And to be clear, I don't disagree with this suggestion at all (100% support; should have mentioned that lol), I just definitely think there needs to be some actual functionality behind the new roles (I mean, they added Mentor, but the role of Mentor can be filled by other wolves, as that's literally the point that they can train any stat's 3 hr lesson, instead of specific roles; it's never been that useful to me; as it stands, it's more useful for me to keep them as 100% pupsitters). My biggest thing is that any new roles need to feel useful and have a purpose.

I agree! I have a large pack and I am starting to struggle to find roles for my wolves. The wolves ages slowly too so the originals are still here but I have a bunch of 2nd gens that are ready to take on active roles.

IMO,

The numbers of hunting parties and herbalists should increase as the pack grows. The large pack need more foods and I simply do not have time to sent out two hunting parties every 15-30 mins during weekdays since I have a full-time job. If I could sent out 5 hunting parties twice a day, it would be helpful in ensuring that my pack will have enough to eat during the winter time.
As for herbalist, they take forever! Today, 3 of my hunters got injured from a SINGLE hunt. In addition to that, my leader got ticks as well. That's four medicines used up today and so far, my herbalist only replaced two. Because my herbalist was too busy to replace the medicines I used, I missed out opportunity to forage for more herbs. I would love to be able to sent one to foraging and other one to brew medicines. Even better if we can have two of each for a larger pack. Ashealath's idea of having aides is good one too.

I love the idea of having Guard/Sentinel roles. I have several of wolves who would suit the roles so well. I also support the idea of scavengers so much. I am struggling to keep enough amusement items to keep my pack happy. I usually had to turns rotten food into bones to use. I love the idea of getting trophy, remnants, etc. Since I am working full-time, I don't really get enough exploration time with my leader so I don't get enough of amusements, remnants, etc for my pack-size.

Totally supporting this - I have ended up giving a lot of my wolves away because I don't have enough resources to feed/play with the ones that aren't doing anything. I especially love the idea of guard wolves and scavengers.

I definitely support.
I like the guard/patrol idea to protect the pack.
The scavenger roll is good but I called it Crafter Roll with the option to send them out to scavenge.
I do like the mentor roll but I have yet to use it at all. I always imagine something called a lower keeper that would play similar role but would be able to be set at a much younger age and would have other features like saving a certain percentage of discovered areas after your lead retires or give an extra benefit to pup training.
Either way I do agree we need more pack rolls.

Just googled to see the role limits, and here I am lol.

Yeah... I'm at that point where I have no reason to take in more wolves, bc I have no use for them. Ig right now I can just work on gradually getting better-stat wolves, since rn I just have a lot of NBWs since I'm just coming back from a hiatus and lost all of my wolves during my absence (I could have sworn there were still some I should have, but.. nope... they were all gone aside from like 2..)

I keep wanting a 3rd or even 4th scout bc of how long it's taking me to scout the Desert with the 2 I have. A higher prof and what not would obv help, but it'd be nice to just have more. Esp bc then you could have more scouting out more biomes to help you get more resources or something. Scouts I feel like would also just make filler roles.

But a lot of really good ideas for other new roles to fill up, too!
I hope they consider it eventually.

Honestly esp like the scavengers to help with amusement items would be awesome! Not having to stress to spam explore and find feathers n stuff lol. Yet another thing I had to struggle to find when I got back. Thankfully hunting to feed was easy enough, though lol. Just spam hunts alongside explore. Not the best hunters, full of NBWs, but certainly good placeholders.

Pleading and begging for new roles. It's hard to manage more than 4 hunting parties and get most of their hunts depleted despite getting on a lot!

I think we could easily have border patrols, for example! Same situation as a hunting party but they don't bring back food. Maybe they have a low chance to bring back things that drop during battles if they encounter a trespasser or an herb here and there.

you can you just need more pack space, I have 3 hunting parties going. This is why we need more roles.

Thank you Detective Purple, I didn't realize that and ironically just applied the expand pack talent and got a third.
