"Thanks," I meowed, licking her cheek. "Are you hungry? Let me go catch you something fresh. Craving anything specific?" With each word I took a step back, tears pricking my eyes and breaths coming in gasps as memories trickled into my head, memories I tried to forget. the musty smell of the forest. Sunlight dappling on the forest floor. A soft, soothing voice. The scent of honeysuckle and bark slowly fading, replaced with the smell of death the last one made me gasp sharply, tears beginning to trickle down my cheeks as grief and pain stabbed my heart. |

"I'll be back in a bit," I rasped, turning and racing out of camp. Sprinting across the moor, I allowed the familiar rhythm of my body blank outlet my mind, instilling a peace inside of me that nothing else ever could. I ran for a while, and when I finally came to a stop my mind was clear and memories suppressed once more. Muscles burning from the running and lungs creaming for air, I panted hard, padding over to a puddle and lapping up a few mouthfuls before collapsing on my side. |
