Within the Cervidae’s heart (ended & closed)

One of the does was gazing at frost with admiration "your so pretty with white and silver mixed with brown" she said then another one added "isnt it hard to hide from threats though?" frost nodded "i typically roll in dust or mud just enough to make the white look more brown" she said while she didnt love large crowds she enjoyed talking to small groups.

a doe or two glanced behind them and frost questioned what it was but said nothing.Another doe asked her "why arnt you in a herd any stag would probably love you?" which frost promptly replied "most stags ive met are to head strong and overall full of it" she shook a leaf off her neck before answering a few more questions and replying to fawns about her travels.

Getting closer Yalaktinos could see that they were talking to a rather... unique looking doe. He had never seen a doe like that, but could imagine that it would be hard to hide from predators since even the tall grass wouldn't be able to hide her well. He hadn't overheard much about their conversation, but had heard the last bit she had said about the stags. Were they really that headstrong and full of themselves? He had to admit that perhaps it was so, but the male didn't make his presence known. Instead he stood there few meters from them listening their conversation and trying to gather more information about who this doe was.

He could only wonder where she had came from, he had never seen a doe like her in this forest, but her scent definitely was the same he had picked up near the stream yesterday. Would she stay here for a long time and where was she heading to? Yalaktinos had to admit that the doe was a pure mystery for him.

Frosts ear flicked as she spoke to a doe around her age a few others had finally went to get a snack or water but their were still around 5 still there."Do you plan on ever staying somewhere?'' an older fawn asked "perhaps one day I'll find somewhere to call home but so far I haven't found that yet" she replied.

a small female fawn with a very light brown coat came up to her "you have even lighter fur than me!" she squeaked "yes I do" frost chuckled gently poking the fawn with her muzzle "I'm possibly lighter in color than half the deer in these lands" she chuckled then her ear flicked sensing someone else watching her and she turned her head.there a large stag was quietly watching her she locked eyes with him for a moment before replying to something the fawn had said.

Yalaktinos allowed their gazes to lock for a moment, however, he didn't make any threatening movements towards her. He was merely observing the situation calculating whether or not she was safe and did she have any ill intentions. He knew that it was a risk letting her to stay on his lands, but he also couldn't bring himself to declare his authority and to chase her away. It seemed that she was homeless and the food wasn't hard to find on his territory.

"Good morning, miss," Yalaktinos eventually said dipping his head being very careful of not hurting the doe or the other members of his herd with his antlers. It wouldn't hurt to be polite at least. Besides it would be very odd to just stand there like a statue, his late mother would have chased him out of the pack had she been witnessing that kind of behavior, especially towards the ladies.

(oml I love his late mother and shes not even alive XD)

"good morning" she replied dipping her head noticably wary of the stag due to previous encounters. Before she said anything else the fawn poked her shed almost forgotten what the fawn had been saying but remembered after a moment."right sorry,I was born in a herd yes my father was the lead stag and my mother was a very light brown like you,but I think the others were uncomfortable with a bright target in their herd so I left much to my mother and fathers disapproval" she chuckled remembering her fathers grumpy scowl when she told him.

the fawn was now laying down listening to frosts stories in her adventures "and you managed all aloneee?" the fawn asked in awe."yes its not that bad actually very peaceful though I have to be careful when I sleep" she replied calmly "how did you avoid the wolves and coyotes?" asked another doe

(are their other males in your herd or is it just doe's? ik that in some things there are but in the real world I'm pretty sure most herds consist of only 1 male and some doe's)

(His mother sure was rather interesting doe XD and I think that there are more males in his herd. I'm thinking that even though it isn't very realistic, each female in his herd would have their own mates who have sired their calves. I'm planning that Yalaktinos is the most monogamous stag there is XD and it also would work better that way, if we want Frost and him get together later on. ^^)

He didn't interrupt her nor chastised the young fawn for interrupting the adults conversation. Instead the stag stayed silent and listened the doe's words closely. How would he react, if his daughter would suddenly announce that she would leave the herd? Obviously he wouldn't be pleased about that and he knew that should that ever happen, it would take a long time from him to come to terms with that. He was the one who preferred his family staying close, even though he also willingly and voluntarily distanced himself from his herd.

Yalaktinos knew that even though it was pleasant to listen her voice and stories about her travels, he would soon need to leave his herd again. His territory needed to be constantly patrolled both for the threats and to show his dominance. Even though things were peaceful now, it didn't mean that it had always been that way. His body, especially his head still had some scars from the time he had had to fight for his position when an another stag had challenged him.

(He sure seems popular stag then XD and I'm definitely looking forward to meeting the other one too)

For a moment Yalaktinos' gaze became stern when the fawn started to whine.

"Do remember your manners," he reminded the fawn before turning his attention back to the almost white doe. "Feel free to grazeΒ  on the same meadow my herd seems to prefer, if you wish. Also, you may have a drink at the stream, if you'd like," he said his voice soft and gentle. He shifted his weight a little and for a moment his ears pressed tightly against his neck before he forced them forward again to hide his pain.

"You are free to continue your travels, if you wish, however, I wouldn't object, if you choose to stay within the herd for a while longer," Yalaktinos said closing his eyes for a moment willing the pain to pass. He chose to say nothing more before he walked away from the fawn and the doe heading back into the thickets to begin yet another patrol around the forest.

frost dipped her head "thank you" was all she said before watching him walk off.she had seen his moment of something that she thought was pain but chose not to say anything."well then would you lead me to the stream then I'm afraid I'm not sure where it is" she said smiling at the fawn who jumped with excitement and went to tell her father and then led frost to the stream.

after she got a drink frost allowed the fawn to bring her to the grazing grounds.Staying a bit apart from the herd she started eating listening patiently to the fawns constant talking she didn't seem to mind though."what's your name little one?" she asked when the fawn paused."oh my name is Lilith" she replied "what's your name?" she asked "well my name is frost" frost replied her ear flicked."ooooof your name is so pretty!" Lilith said happily and frost laughed softly "thank you,I saw your father but where is your mother?" frost asked.

Lilith frowned and her ears fell "she was attacked my a pack of wolves before my father or yalaktinos our stag could help her" she said sadly.frost lifted her head "I'm sorry about that but I can sorta relate,my brother was killed by wolves as well probably a different type though" frost nuzzled Lilith and she perked up a bit and minutes later they were talking about the best type of food laying in the grass.

Yalaktinos had headed to the part of the forest that was closest to the humans. His ears were pressed against his neck as the male nervously walked closer to the road. He could already smell them and that made him very anxious. He knew that the season was starting soon, it wouldn't be much longer anymore.

The male, however, froze on his tracks when he heard the humans talking and then heard their dogs parking. Despite his instinctsΒ  telling him otherwise, Yalaktinos walked slowly closer and closer until he had a clear view of what was happening even though he was still hidden. The stag's eyes widened. The humans had taken their strange metal pipes out of that even more strange box where they all would sit with their dogs. The dogs were already wearing harnesses and were sniffing the forest eagerly. This could mean only on thing. His calculations must have been wrong and the season had already started.
