21:04 - 7/26/5074 Location: The Silent Watcher - CockpitIs anyone out there? No? Well, I'll record this just in case somebody is. My name is Elka Soik. I'm a human on the Silent Watcher. Humanity is in ashes, and my ship's about to be so I have to keep it quick. I can only hope other worlds can learn from humanity's mistakes. Let me tell you about those mistakes, if you can even hear me. Earth. The home of humanity for millennia. Gone with the flick of a lever. Well, it wasn't that simple. Or was it? Honestly I'm not sure. Humanity's home was lost to the error of a single man. A man with the power to end it all; a man who did exactly that. The shape of the mushroom cloud on every horizon. Black wrapping around the planet. Thousands of cities, smothered by the smoke. Buildings and homes gone. You're thinking everybody died, right? Well, that's not what happened. It's a long and complicated story. I can't tell you the details of what happened before Salvation, but I can tell you everything after. I'd run out of time if I tried to even sum up the history of humanity. Anyways, what I've told you is the short version. I'll tell you the long version, if you care to listen? Thirty Years Earlier 11:28 - 3/21/5044 Location: The Atterax - Courtyard, BalconyEver since the fall of Earth, humanity has lived in the intergalactic space hotel known as the Atterax. But systems on the Atterax were starting to fail, too many humans on board for the space hotel to handle. Of course, something had to be done about this before humanity was wiped out. This led to the construction of Explorer I, nicknamed EI. Explorer I was the first of a series of three shuttles built to send shipments of humans to other planets and try to find one they could inhabit safely. But Explorer I needed a crew. That's where the young and adventurous Kaiyora Min came in. Kaiyora herself was one of the better known women on the Atterax, with her fox magic making her untrusted but respected. Now the fox woman stood on the balcony surveying the main court "yard" of the Atterax. She spoke into a microphone, broadcasting her voice through the gathered humans and mages. "My fellow humans and mages. As you may have heard rumors throughout the ship, a new crew is forming. Our Captain has given me the honor of captaining this new crew. Of course, I need a few first. The crew will consist of seven people including myself and be gone for six months in search of a new home for our people. Who here is willing to join me on this endeavor?" She quieted, scanning the beings gathered below her. Her tail swayed slightly, the only thing betraying her nerves. It was a good moment of silence before a few beings spoke up. A teenage girl around 14 years old, to which her parents objected but the girl ignored them. One of the Atterax's own crew volunteered, a middle aged woman who most just called Rover. As well as a few others. It was a small crew to begin with so those who volunteered would not be missed if the expedition failed. |

Location: The Atterax - BalconyKaiyora studied her crew, nodding a greeting to Rover. She studied the teenage girl then spoke. "You are a child," she wasn't sure how to feel about that. The teenager just nodded. Kaiyora shook her head and turned her analytical gaze to Edwin. "And you are a mage." Again, she wasn't sure how she felt about that. The rest of the crew except herself and Edwin were human. "We won't have a problem, will we?" She looked between the humans and Edwin. Sometimes humans and mages did not get along. The humans all shook their head, though the teenage girl glared at Edwin rather judgmentally. Kaiyora chose to ignore the child. "Good. My name is Kaiyora Min, though I'm sure some of you already know this. I'll be your captain... Would you each mind introducing yourselves?" The question was asked after a few moments of nobody being willing to speak up. Finally the teenage girl did. "I'm Lydia Hayes. Uh... yeah that's it. I'm not cool." The girl muttered. Clearly the child was nervous. Kaiyora nodded, scanning the others with a prompting gaze. Who would be willing to speak up next? That was the magical question. |

Location: The Atterax - BalconyThe humans on the crew exchanged glances. Kaiyora sighed. "The rest of you introduce yourselves. I'll be right back." She took a step back then vanished. Rover glanced at the rest of the crew. "The name's Rover. Nothing super special about me. I'd like to think I'm a good mechanic." Lydia scoffed. "An old woman? A good mechanic?" Location: The Atterax - PlazaKaiyora appeared in front of the person, her ears pricked and tail lashing angrily. "Would you care to repeat yourself to my face, human?" She hissed. |

The human down in the plaza glared. Mages, and your kind! Have no place on this planet! Mages are just deformed people who will eventually probably kill us all! And they have stupid limits. I once saw a mage having a seizure on the ground because they used too much magic. In the middle of a busy crowd of people. Like, move out of the way deformed b!tch. And your kind are no better! Experiments who got loose and are stupid and let your dumb instincts take over to hurt others. Humans were the first and should stay the only ones on our new planet. The human said all this as if making a point, glaring the whole time. |

Location: The Atterax - PlazaKaiyora hissed but did not attack. "Mages and humans rely on each other to survive, whether you like it or not. As for myself, first of all I'm not an experiment. I've also been around for about 200 years. Humans might have been first but your lifetimes are short, worthless even. Now you can either take it up with the Captain, or drop it and move on with your life. Got it?" Location: The Atterax - BalconyRover sighed. "Thank you, Edwin, but I can defend myself." The old woman turned to Lydia. "And would you say you're a better mechanic than I am?" Sure enough, Lydia was speechless. The child was no mechanic. |

Edwin nodded sheepishly. Looking down and shuffling his feet. Still angry at the little girl, it made him mad sometimes how humans thought they were better than mages and other kinds. And then some mages and others did the same thing back! Even if we have magic and abilities, doesn't mean that one wss better than the other. They all do their part to help. So why was this still a thing? |

Location: The Atterax - Plaza"This ship is sheltered by a mage-formed shield. It would be in pieces scattered throughout the galaxy without the mages. And my kind don't need special diets. I'm the only one of my kind on this ship and I eat human food like a normal person." To Kaiyora, this was no longer about defending mages but defending her crew and herself. This had gotten personal pretty quickly. |
