With a weary sigh, your wolf finds Axe—with a crazed smile and a bone in his mouth—watching them from the corner of a den, perhaps one lent by a cryptic from The Merged group, he appears to be excited by the sight of your wolf—how long has Axe been here?
Your wolf shrugs the question of with a twitch of their ears, slowly approaching Axe—"Hello, friend!" He shouts, despite his terrifying nature, his tone is optimistic. Axe trotted over, his tail wagging as he groomed your wolfs pelt. "Welcome, welcome! Is there anything you need? Perhaps a she-wolf of your pack is in dire need of assistance?" He winks suggestively before chuckling and sitting in front of your wolf. "I would never pass down a damsel in distress." He cleared his throat with a playful growl.
"Right, don't mind the blood… claw marks… and, well, meat around here—as much as I love the cryptids, they are insanely messy!" He groaned, he was used to the cleanliness of his packs den, but travels may call for desperate measures…
〰️ Axe's Description
"What's the problem, little one?" His mother would ask. Bounce lifted his head, which was no bigger than his mother's paw, "They're all playing so roughly and I want to join!" He'd whine, resulting in a laugh from the she-wolf, yet she licked his forehead, comforting him. "You're different," She started, "Your brothers and sisters are like a river; strong and unyielding. You're like the light breeze the leaves and spirits dance with." Bounce laid his head in between his paws, a sign of his confusion. Bounce's mother caught on to it, speaking softly. "Your speed, your cleverness–that is your strength."
Bounce's bright blue eyes watched his siblings wrestle and growl with each other; all of his siblings were worthy shades of gray, perfectly blending into the shadows of the forest. On the other hand, Bounce was black and brown; he felt like a puzzle that never belonged.
Days turned into weeks, the hunts grew fiercer, more difficult–his mother grew weaker, her eyes glazing over as the stress began to kill her slowly. The pack itself was suffering, the prey had run off, and the winter was approaching like a silent predator; a thief in the night…
One night, the pack returned, empty-handed and starving. Desolate and grieving howls echoed through the forest—a howl that indicated the loss of a pack member. Bounce shot up, looking around for his mother, fear blossoming inside his throat as he whined and shook. The pack's survival was in question, his siblings huddled around their father.
Bounce's world changed, his brothers and sisters dropped; one by one. Six pups: gone in three days. He had to step up, the whispers of his siblings invaded his head; he needed to become the wolf that ensured the pack's survival… With or without the alpha helping. Bounce spent weeks gaining his strength; he was strong, but he knew he shouldn't give up.
One day, he set out early, his nose to the ground, hunting down a rabbit. The spirits of most of his pack followed, their transparent and wind-like bodies seemed to appear randomly. As the sun reached its peak, a rustling of leaves in the distance caught Bounce's attention and he bolted after it, his paws softly thumping against the dirt, and his legs moving with a swiftness that didn't fit with his packmates. In a quick leap, he brought the rabbit down; the cries from the animal for mercy were lost in the wind.
〰️ The Soulkeeper's Pack Lore
When one wishes to be wanted, or to have someone there… they become desperate, needing. That's exactly how Bosch felt every time he met a new wolf, one that would soon be a member of his pack. He never felt a pull to any of the she-wolves that came across his path—just ending his bloodline, isn't he?
Bosco scoffed at his own thoughts, his attention soon diverting to a sweet scent—one that made him trot towards the animal emitting such a perfect scent; that's when he met Cricket, a beautiful wolf with a blue-like pelt and brown eyes that would appear blue when the moon hit them just right.
Bosco was smitten , in love just by the sight of the smaller male. "Hello!" Cricket shouted, his voice excited and eager to meet the darker wolf. "Er….hello?" Bosco mumbled, he would typically attack such an excited wolf on sight, but this one… he's different.
"I'm Cricket, I've seen your hunters and scouts exploring this forest—" Bosco cut the younger wolf off, confusion in his voice, "You've been watching my pack? Don't you have something better to do with yours?" He growled softly, the fur on his back raising in slight frustration and defense for his wolves. "Well… Actually, I don't have one…" Cricket grumbled, Bosco was taken aback—so much sass for a nobody loner.
Without thinking, Bosco spoke about his back, circling Cricket. "My pack, the Soulkeepers, we have room, but not much. If you wish to join, meet me and my…" Bosco snarled just at the thought of the she-wolf who was forced to be his mate. "Mate, Alijah." He nodded, trying to ignore the way his tail wagged and his heart stuttered just by the way Cricket smiled, his scent was heaven to Bosco— he's in love.
〰️ The Soulkeeper's Pack Lore
The air was freezing, Unlucky's paws were frozen and cracking from the rocks under his feet as he tried to walk into the forest only a few paces in front of him. I'm just a pup…
The way the green of the forest grass and moss differentiated from the white and gray snow of the mountains brought him hope, his entire body trembled, his pelt, one that many called an abomination, was matted yet still bright against the world around him.
Unlucky whined, his tail tucked as he grew closer to the forest–it concerned him, why was it so healthy? Shouldn't the trees be dead? The moss too?
Once Unlucky reached the edge of the forest, he tripped, his body tired–why did they force me so far away?
Expecting the black of the night to swallow him into a final rest, he felt the opposite–he felt… wonderful. Unlucky had half of his small body in the forest, that half felt amazing, but the same couldn't be said for the rest of it, his hind legs ached to be warm yet were too exhausted to pull forward.
The sound of rustling could be heard a few feet away, the bushes moving and birds singing–Unlucky's head spun, his body only ached more—no, no it didn't… his body felt find, he could feel his hind legs again and his fur felt amazing, no knots on his back or the pain-filled cracks in his paws.
He finally looked up, an adult wolf looked down at his figure in worry–it seems they had pulled him into the forest, noticing the way he struggled. Unlucky tried to speak, but his fear and worry overwhelmed him. "Are you alright? You're young, what is the problem?" The wolf spoke softly, their ears twitching in curiosity as they awaited his response.
Yet, Unlucky's response never came, he only struggled to realize what was happening. He gulped, his body continuing to tremble despite the warmth of the forest. "It's okay," They pulled Unlucky to the bushes, to lie down on a soft patch of moss. "I'm Rex, can you tell me your name, little one?" The wolf, Rex, asked, they appeared to be nice, but Unlucky was still shaken by the way his body felt so different in the forest rather than when he was puddled in the snow.
"They call Unlucky…" He whispered, his tongue licking his nose in fear–he wasn't as scared as he was before, he felt as though he could trust Rex. Unlucky could finally see Rex's colored pelt, it wasn't at all like his, but it looked just like the pelt of the snow people that used to lay in the nursery den.
Rex frowned. "That… isn't the best name, but I suppose we'll have to stick with that for now." Rex sighed before flicking their tail and looking around the forest. "The forest seems to allow your presence, and so I do too." Rex gave the pup a smile. "This is your home now, come… Unlucky." They seemed to be upset calling such a quiet pup Unlucky for they know it wasn't even a good name.
With a clumsy movement, Unlucky stood up, finally noticing the bioluminescent flowers, and the way the birds seemed so… huge! Perhaps it's just the way the forest seems so small? No, that couldn't be it.
Unlucky gulped, his tail untucking as he relaxed. "Is there something wrong with my color? Why did they say I was bad luck?" Unlucky huffed, shaking his body to relieve himself from his anxiety. "You aren't bad luck, I believe they just didn't expect such an unnatural coat to be in their pack, but you're special." Rex began walking down the dirt path that seemed to have appeared before Unlucky's eyes—his eyes matched the flowers!
With an excited whine, Unlucky followed Rex soon moving next to their side, he looked around the forest, it seemed to light up every time Rex took a step or came into the flowers' sight! Not sight, flowers don't have eyes…
Unlucky laughed at his own thoughts, looking up at Rex with his own newfound determination.
"I think I know just what to call you, a new name—your new life." Rex hummed, moving through two shrubs that grew the glowing flowers on them. "You're very vibrant—energetic…" They mumbled, seemingly to themself. "Your new name," they began, a smile began to grow on Unlucky's face. "Is Mudris, you're lively soul shall live on alongside me."
Rex smiled before grooming the crazed fur on Unlucky—no, Mudris' head. Mudris smiled himself, his gaze falling on the beautiful caves and the bioluminescent plants; they seemed to glow more as if they sensed his excitement. "I'm Mudris!" He laughed, rolling around on the moss.
