Their howls, sometimes a haunting melody, at other times a war cry, echoed through the forest, each pack's claim reverberating off the ancient trunks. But a shadow loomed over the Whispering Pines, one that neither pack could ignore: an unseen disease had begun to creep through the forest. It came with insidious whispers on the wind, striking at the heart of each pack. Members of both the Cilgant and the Ortus began to succumb to the mysterious affliction, their once vigorous forms withering into shadows of their former selves. It started with a feverish shiver, followed by a weakness that stole their very essence. The leader of the Cilgant, a majestic gray wolf named Daylight, stood atop a rocky outcrop, her eyes sharp and focused. She had seen too many of her brethren fall to the disease. Just that morning, her sister Lyra, once a fierce huntress, staggered while pouncing on a mere hare, succumbing to the same fate as many others. Daylight knew the time had come to address not just the disease, but the very essence of their survival. Meanwhile, in the opposite part of the forest, Alaric, the cunning black wolf and leader of the Ortus, paced restlessly in the dim light of his den. His pack was dwindling, each new day bringing news of illness and despair. An inner voice urged him to continue warring against the Cilgant, to uphold their rivalry in the face of encroaching doom.
