Update: w/c 16th September 2024 Delays
Posted 2024-09-15 14:58:04
Hi everyone,

Currently, Poland is experiencing catastrophic flooding conditions and in particular, the area that Xylax lives in. Flood warnings have been issued of potential floods up to 8 meters tall which could drown the entire house. Xylax is making preparations to evacuate as necessary with his cats and valuables and as such, a lot of art related updates may end up heavily delayed.

We apologise for any inconvenience, and will keep you updated.

This statement will be included in the next community news.

As a Pole with family in the areas, please take care! Everything else can and should be put aside with how awful the situation is in the South, but I believe we will manage with enough solidarity and support

Hey guys, thank you so much. I am sure many Poles, Czechs, Slovaks, Romanians, Austrians and Hungarians here are in tough situations as well.

This affects updates, but I hope for the best. We're packed and booked a hotel just in case.
Flood starts on 18th and the peak will arrive on the weekend for me. I learned recently that my area is in "controlled water relief" region and not in the main water passage, so we might get flooded on purpose to help the main city to lower the levels, but according to the govt it might not happen at all. (And if it does, it shouldn't be very deep, thankfully, but power and water will be off so we'll evacuate anyway).

I'll try to work on the game until probable forced evacuation by military - but hope nothing will happen and my area will be safe enough. No news is good news, from now on.

Glad to hear you're in a more controlled situation! Don't push yourself — your safety and comfort always come first

As a Pole myself, living in the less flooded areas, i hope this quickly ends, many towns/cities have been ruined, this is just sad how we ended up. Glad to hear Xylax is safe

During the last week living in the dormitory, on Friday the 13th, I was asked by father to buy a catechism as I was in the city. The only pair of shoes I had had the right shoe damaged with a hole in it. It was a rainy day. On the way to the bookstore, I had to walk on the wet floor and the water was leaking into the shoe. It was unpleasant feeling and I was irritated that I wasn't asked to do it sooner. It was the last day the bookstore was open during the week so if I wanted to help, I couldn't do it another day. On the way back, I took a bus but I validated a ticket on the wrong side so I left the bus halfway despite the rain, I planned to visit a random shop to buy food. When I got to the dormitory, my right sock was wet, quite unpleasant feeling.

Sunday the 15th was the last day when I had to move out. I got everything packed, obligatory mass and go to family home. While passing villages, I noticed gatherings of people looking at increasing water level, I was surprised seeing something that resembled a river which touched buildings. Several villages passed with similar problem. When I got to my family village, I saw our fields turned into small lakes, the water there I have never seen before. And there were big puddles of water on my yard.

Day later, I learnt that the bridge I crossed on the way home was closed due to flooding. I would be unable to leave the city, even the village I used to pass by train was flooded. I left the city on the last day available, coincidentally being the deadline I had to move out from the dormitory. I also live near places affected by flood but my village was fine despite lakes on fields, buildings weren't affected. I went to church to thank God that my place was left safe.

I was whining that the rain got the right sock wet but there were people in much worse situations. I wish my regional neighbors to end up suffering what I did, not more.
