Riley and Iris trotted after Black Hawk, Sunstone, and Corey. Rarely did either of them join in on scouts or patrols, but their two usual scouts were back at the den to help Caer. Hawk needed more eyes on their surroundings while he taught Corey and Sunstone the ropes of patrolling, and Iris wanted to get some experience searching for herbs in preparation to take over the role of herbalist, while Riley simply wanted to stretch her legs, so the pair decided to follow along.
Riley sighed contentedly as they paused on a rocky outcropping for Hawk to discuss something with the two young wolves. She peered out over the rest of the land; they had just arrived to this area and were now scouting it out as a potential place to stop for awhile to rest, hunt, and regroup. First, though, they had to make sure they weren't invading a territory that was already claimed. The pack had rarely stayed in one place for more than a season or two since it was formed, and that was as she had wanted it when she led. Partly to make it difficult to track her down, and partly due to her fear of overhunting the land or overharvesting the resources. The current alpha, her granddaughter Caer, had kept up that nomadic lifestyle.
"Riley? Are you well?" Iris's voice broke through her thoughts, sounding slightly concerned. Riley got the vague sense she had called her name more than once already, but she had been lost in thought.
"I am," she answered, looking over her shoulder to find the other four watching her intently.
"You sense something," Hawk observed; it was not a question.
Riley hesitated and looked back over the land, nose twitching. "Someone has been here," she answered, but with old age had come dulled senses. "I do not know if it has been recent or if they're still around here," she added, looking back apologetically. This was why she rarely went on patrols anymore, despite having loved it once upon a time.

Magnus - Yazmin's Mentor

1. Meeting - In Progress

The young scout, her pawsteps quiet but not silent, paused as she spotted the group of unfamiliar wolves. She listened for a moment as the old wolf spoke, then uttered a quiet growl. The sound was not hostile, simply made to draw attention to the scout. "Is there a reason you're on pack territory? I'm pretty sure the alpha didn't say we were going to have visitors," the scout barked. She did her best to keep her tone away from being hostile and a pleasant expression on her face. The pack was usually welcoming to visitors- the alpha often allowed travelers- but this group was not expected. Her three eyes scanned the group, analyzing each wolf in turn.

Riley spun back around at the sound, bristling slightly. She had never stopped being a little wary of strangers, not fully, though she had come a long way from her younger days when she'd quickly go on the offense. She took a moment to size up the strange wolf, but held her tongue; still, the urge to take control of the situation and speak up was strong. She stayed silent, save for to give Iris a cautionary whine-growl mix when the darker wolf tried to step in front of her. Iris quickly stepped back to stand next to her instead.
"We mean no harm," Black Hawk answered quickly, nudging his young charges towards the other two, though both peeked around Riley curiously. He stepped to the front of the group but stayed calm and pleasant, standing tall and confident but keeping his ears and tail relaxed. "We're looking for a place for our pack to set up camp for the time being, but I see this territory is occupied. I can tell my alpha we need to move on," he offered.
"We didn't realize there was anyone here," Iris piped up apologetically. "Not until Riley thought-- well, anyways, we didn't know, we're sorry."

The wolf paused, studying the strangers as they spoke. She took a moment before speaking herself. When she did, her voice held very little hostility. "My pack often takes in travelers. I'm sure the alpha would allow you to remain on the territory if one of you came with me." Only one. Just how the young scout had been taught by her mentor. One meant leaving the group alone, but if they didn't agree the scout had decided she had permission to chase them off. She took note of how the male held himself, her top eye locked on him though her other two seemed to be normal.

Black Hawk flicked an ear. He took a step back to look at the others for their opinion. While he technically outranked them as second-in-command, he didn't have much experience in that role and was still fairly young; he was hesitant to make a decision without input.
"Come with you?" Iris echoed, ducking her head slightly. She hadn't been in the pack since birth; since she joined, they had only encountered lone wolves, and she was unfamiliar with how other packs worked, aside from her previous pack. The idea of one of them going with a strange wolf was unsettling to her. She ignored the youngsters' mutters of "Cool" and "I wonder what their pack is like!"
Riley sat down and wrapped her tail around herself, eyeing the wolf. She, too, was wary of the offer, but unlike Iris, she was even more worried about what would happen if they declined. "Come with you where? To do what?" she asked, keeping her voice carefully neutral, almost curious. She needed more information before she answered Hawk's unspoken question.

"The alpha doesn't want more than one stranger being brought into the pack." The scout paused. "Though perhaps I could bring two of you," she only said those words because she didn't really feel like escorting anybody out today. "Or I can just escort you all off the territory and we can never speak of this encounter again. You can pick which option we go with here," she yawned, sitting down. She could wait as long as the strangers needed to make their choice.

Black Hawk looked at Iris and Riley. "We have been to the territories south of here," he remarked in a low voice to them. "They were hostile to us. But we could always try to circle around north. Avoid any chance of a run-in."
"No," Riley answered sternly and a bit too quickly, before Iris could answer.
Black Hawk sighed. "Then I will do. You two go back with-"
"No," Riley interrupted again. "Your mother will need you. You need to go home safely, and you need to protect those two." She glanced towards the two young wolves watching them with wide eyes.
"Then what do you propose?" Black Hawk demanded.
"You and Iris take Sunstone and Corey back. Tell Caer what is going on."
"There's no way I'm going to let you-"
"Let me what?" Riley answered, daring to be a bit flippant in spite of his higher rank. She flicked her tail a bit higher and turned. She was older, and not as vital to the pack as the second-in-command or their future herbalist, and they certainly couldn't send the two apprentices. If things went wrong, she was the least important in terms of role, and she owed it to her family and to Iris's grandmother to keep them safe.
Besides, she had to admit, she was a bit curious.
"I will come with you," she said in spite of Hawk's growl, taking a few cautious steps towards the stranger.

(Made a few updates to Yazmin's looks)
The young scout seemed amused by the debate, her third eye staying open while her other two closed briefly. "By way of the traveler, you will not be harmed. If one of your companions decides to follow, this way is voided and you will be considered a threat." She said the words like she'd said them hundreds of times before, though she'd only ever encountered three travelers and two of those were from her own pack. She rose, taking a step back and flicking her tail for the elder to follow.

"Riley," Black Hawk snarled after her, desperately hoping she'd come back. He wasn't sure he wanted them to split up so easily.
"Go home, Hawk," Riley answered dismissively over her shoulder. This wolf's words didn't make too much sense to her, but they worried her. "I mean it. Go back." Her blank expression briefly switched to a stern glare, before she turned back to trot after the stranger. "What do you mean, by way of the traveler?" she asked somewhat warily.

Black Hawk growled, but it ended in a defeated whimper, knowing the former alpha was too stubborn to turn around now. "Iris, Corey, Sunstone. With me," he said. "We need to go tell the alpha what's going on."

"The pack has always believed travelers to be blessings. Very rarely have we met a traveler who has intended harm, and those who do are... well I won't sugarcoat it. Anyone who means harm is killed. Travelers, under the law of the pack's god Lucius Skye, are never to be harmed. To harm a traveler would be to harm our god," The young wolf explained as she walked, ducking through the trees expertly but pausing sometimes to let Riley catch up.
