The Shifters || A Dystopian Roleplay Between Saege and Forty Seven ||

Rowan knew he had heard something, It had sounded similar to his sister's meow. He couldn't pinpoint the exactness of the sound, though he did head in the general direction of it.

He softly huffed as he was glad his sister was inside rather than out, as he had a slight feeling that they would've been reported as out-of-class when in technicality it wasn't a class that was needed. He barely remembered anything that went on in the class, yet still had an almost perfect grade in there. The teacher didn't care if the students weren't in class, as long as you knew what you were doing, and actually paid attention when needed, so when Rowan had asked to go find his sister, the teacher just sent him on his way, having both of them marked as there already.

Saege just stood there, allowing the smaller cat to study her. She didn't remember seeing this person, though it could be a random person she's seen in classes or just around-campus. It didn't take a while before she herself shifted back, her body melding back into a human form, her fur 'melting' to be clothing.

|| OOC: I'm so so sorry for the late response, I've been caught up with life, Just got back from a Dr's trip TwT We're getting me officially tested for ADHD, and I got a shot I apparently missed. Also, Yeah, that's what I was thinking, they're able to convey emotions, maybe a higher-pitched sound meaning in distress or whatever, just not full-on sentences. Though I would think that if they're close (Lets say family or really, really close friend or Significant Other), they have some sort of telepathy, maybe short, non-complex sentences are able to be understood, Ex: "Where are you?" ||

Jocelyn watched with curiosity as the other person shifted back. She sized her up. She felt she was pretty good with faces; she was the kind of person who often greeted the staff and the other students in the halls and knew most of the staff no matter whether they were the head of the school or a part-time night janitor. So she recognized her, but only in passing; a sense of "I've seen this person around here before," but not enough to put a name to a face. And certainly, the fact that she was a shifter was news. "Who are you?" she asked, taking a small step forward, head tilted slightly.

Dakota made her way down the hallway, keeping her head high and her gaze forward like she knew where she was going, even as she strayed from her usual routes through the hallways, and then past her less-common paths. In none of them could she see any sign that Jocelyn had come this way. Dakota found herself back at the hallway where she and Jocelyn had split up, and she peered down the hallway her friend had disappeared down, but she didn't see or hear anything. She casually checked her watch to see how much time she had left before their next class, glanced around, and then turned to follow that hallway and see where it led. Not for the first time, she wished she felt safe enough to shift inside the building. Superior feline hearing, scent, and speed sounded great right about now.

[OOC: (Edited in because I forgot to add in, sorry) No worries! Life's been crazy on my end too anyways so I probably wouldn't have been able to respond that fast if you had posted anything sooner anyways. That's good!
Alright, sounds good. I'm gonna say Jocelyn and Dakota can do that with each other as they are very close, have known each other their whole lives, practically raised together as family since their moms were best friends.]

Saege was currently chewing on the dead skin around her nails, occasionally biting her nail as well, A habit she needed to get herself out of. She brought her finger away from her mouth before replying with her name. "Saege, And you?" She was quick with her words, not seeming to second-guess herself.

Rowan was nearing where Dakota was, actually. He walked quickly, his attention on his surroundings. ' Damn it, Saege.. Give me more information on where you are--' He thought to himself as he looked around a few corners. He still stayed to the shadows; Knowing most teachers liked him, in a sense, but they still weren't afraid to punish a student for being out-of-class when they shouldn't be. Or for a 'stupid' reason.

|| OOC: Yeah, Lol Hey, I'm doing better though! No more bad sinuses :D And My boyfriend thought it was strep too, so yeah TwT.. ||

Jocelyn ran her hand through her hair, twirling each lock around her finger at the end mindlessly. Saege... she made a mental note of the name for if they ran into each other in the hallways. She also took note of the chewing. "Jocelyn," she answered. "It's nice to meet you. I... didn't know you could do that." She tilted her head back slightly, meaning the shifting.

Dakota stopped before an intersection between two hallways, sighing softly. She pressed her back against the wall, looking up and down the hallway as far as she could, straining her ears to listen for any sign of anyone, friend or foe. She frowned. She wasn't getting anywhere here, mindlessly wandering the hallways like this. She wished once again she could shift; if Jocelyn hadn't shifted back and returned, she could take advantage of their higher feline hearing and voice ranges to find her friend without in turn being found out.
But no sense wishing for what she couldn't have. Figuring out an excuse to have on hand if she wasn't alone, she looked down the hallway again and then peeked around the corners at the intersection. "Hey, Jocelyn? You here somewhere?" she called hesitantly.

[OOC: That's good! Eugh strep is nasty.]

Saege seemed confused. "Isn't that why most of us are here? Except for those.. Few." She said 'few' with a distasteful tone. Saege moved slightly, shifting her weight to her other leg. "I don't think we have any classes together, Do we?" She asked, her gaze moving around quite a lot, as she thought.

Rowan paused as he heard a voice, pressing himself deeper into the shadows. He cursed himself for not knowing this building as well as he did the others, knowing that he could find his sister quicker and not get caught by teachers. He crept forward, keeping silent as he neared where he heard the voice.

Jocelyn shifted her weight uneasily, looking away for a moment. " guess so," she said to the first part, then paused to remember who her classmates were. "I don't think we do," she answered after a moment's thought. She felt that if they did share a class, she would've recognized Saege more easily. She looked back and sized her up for a moment. "What do you mean, those few?"

Hearing no response, Dakota sighed. "I'm going to put a tracker on that kid," she muttered to nobody in particular, believing the halls to be empty. She was willing to come up with a lie, if Jocelyn wasn't back by the next class period, but it wouldn't be her first choice. She raised her voice slightly to give one more shot to see if she got an answer. "Jocelyn? C'mon, if you're here somewhere, answer me already."

[OOC: No worries!]

Saege hummed once, tilting her head to the side; back and forth before answering.
"What I mean by those 'few' is those who actually chose to be here, or those that.. I guess, can't shift at all. I mean, not considering the teachers, theres' barely anyone out of the students that can't actually shift, whether voluntarily or involuntarily; they can't shift."
She paused for a moment, continuing with what she was saying: "Those few that chose to be here are.. Well, Not right in the head if they chose themselves. Though, sometimes the.. What's it called.. 'Government' makes it out to be better than it is. You get the 'best' education, more-or-less 'free' living, food, water, freedom from your parents or parental figures, Especially those who don't have any parents, it's like a haven to them."

The male twin paused once again. Who is that... Who would be saying something out loud when most of us are in class? Rowan stepped forward, having Dakota somewhat in his sights. He paused and sighed to himself before straightening his back as he was hunched down; and stepping out of the shadows. "You do realize it isn't exactly smart to be basically yelling your friend's name out in the hallway when most are in classes."

|| OOC: Not me complaining I have nothing to do then remembering I haven't replied to this TwT I'm so sorry though Lol (EDITED BECAUSE I FORGOT TO SPECIFY THE SECOND WAS ROWAN)  ||

Jocelyn wrung her hands slightly and shrugged. "I mean, my best friend and roommate chose it, and she can't." All her life, Dakota had been taught to not let anyone see her shift, and had made very certain that no one knew, outside of her own family, Jocelyn, and Jocelyn's mother, the last of which had quite literally otherwise taken the secret to her grave when she had passed some years back. "I don't think she's... 'not right in the head.'" She frowned slightly, though she supposed she did sort of remember some other students acting oddly around Dakota, treating her like less-than, almost as if they thought she was stupid. And she'd seen the same to other students who weren't known to shift. It made sense, though she had never thought much of those students; surely they had their reasons just like Dakota.

Dakota jumped when she heard a voice she didn't recognize. She straightened and spun around, eyeing the other student in surprised wariness. She didn't really recognize him. "What do you mean?" she asked blandly, casting a surreptitious glance at her watch. She still had a few minutes before she needed to return to her regular routes, though she hadn't planned to spend it getting lectured by a stranger. "And I wasn't yelling." It was true; her voice was a little louder than normal, as if she were trying to be heard over the din of a room full of chatter, but was by no means yelling.

[OOC: Lol no worries]

Saege just shrugged her shoulders, taking a breath:
"They're all treated differently. Those who can't shift, I mean. I don't see any of them as lower than us... Being entirely honest with ya? I see 'em as better than us, not in a 'we're all bad and can't do anything properly' or condescendingly, they get to live a life different than ours, and most of them, if they weren't treated differently, probably could be living as kings or queens by now." She paused to think.
"Those who did choose to be here, sorry for the rough wording with it, didn't mean to sound mean by sayin' they're not 'right in the head.' there's just a lack of a better term for them, I mean, who wants to be a government's tool? Being way too blunt with this, Who wants to go and do things for another person's enjoyment that isn't of your free will?"
Saege looked at Jocelyn for a moment before taking a seat. "Sorry, I have a strong opinion on this."

Rowan stood there for a moment. His face stayed mostly blank as he spoke, "I'm just saying it might be smarter to look for them, rather than talking loudly around classrooms. I'm not here to exactly lecture you on that do whatever you please, I'm just looking for my sister."

|| OOC: Sorry about response timing. I've been caught up with things, Can you believe someone expected me to finish an essay in less than two days, while distracting me in the timeframe I was given to do it? ||
