Hi, I've been playing for over a year at this point, but I did miss out on the Effigy stuff last year. Can someone explain the objectives of the event to me? I read the news post but I'm still slightly confused. And what are Smoldering Effigies? I think I had some at one point but I really don't remember XD
any help is appreciated !!

I was confused last time too, but I finally sort of figured it out. If I remember correctly...
Normal mysterious effigies are the currency for the normal event shop, run by the NPC Mohkra. That will unlock tiers as we collect effigies throughout the month.
When the pyre finally gets lit near the end of the event, you'll be able to use the effigies to pass through the fire to reach an alter where you can sacrifice smouldering effigies to conjure exclusive rare items. It functions like another event shop.
If I remembered something wrong, I'm sure someone will correct me.

No, I don't think so. Each item has a spell procedure associated with it and by doing the spell the right way, you get what you want. But I don't remember exactly how this part works.
