1. Taiga: - More herbs to find during forage - Quite close to challenging biomes so I can have 3 hunting parties* and get more exp - It's only a difficult biome 2. Tundra: - only a few herbs - it's a challenging biome, close to glacier, and I can have 4 hunting parties* 3. Glacier: - hardest biome, a lot of Exp for hunters, I can have 4 hunting parties* - almost no herbs I really have no idea which one would be the best. Any help? * by saying "I can have x hunts" I mean that I'm able to hunt 10 times with one party during one rollover |

i prefer it because of similar reasons you listed- for hunting you get tundra, taiga, glacier, and CF for your 4 parties, which has worked wonderfully for my setup! tundra and glacier are exp bombs and my parties are established enough that i get medium trails in both, but when i have a new lower level hunter who takes over a retiring hunter, CF and taiga are great to use on that party so my new low level member doesn't drop my trail scent sizes! yes, the lack of herbs suck but that's why i'm in so many groups! i exchange herbs for other items in the groups i'm in, which makes up for the sparseness of the northern biomes (i am so grateful for the groups and people who contribute ahhhh c:) the biggest reason i prefer staying in tundra is because of the map loss when your lead dies- i don't let a lead die in glacier (and rainforest) because then you only have glacier and tundra (or RF and swamp) open! you miss out on the 3 fully explored biomes when you die in glacier or RF, so i stay in tundra (which allows me to have glacier, tundra, and taiga open when my lead kicks it), this saves time on scouting and it also benefits hunting since i have the max 4 parties (and it SUCKED when i died in glacier and could only send out 2 hunts at a time, lesson learned lol) i will say, i've lived in RF and swamp before during the middle of my leads age either for diversity in food/herbs or for decor, i definitely personally noticed a difference in pack sickness- specifically with my hunters! it seems they are more prone to illnesses in the northern biomes so if your herbalist isn't too active, this is definitely something to factor into your decision as well! as for RO sickness, i'll get a pup with pox here and there, but nothing crazy! i don't have much of an issue with this since i'm a severe PREcrastinator and have a large medicine stock lollll but i wanted to mention this because i personally noticed a difference in the upper northern biomes when it comes to illnesses! i think your decision should depend on how frequently you send out hunts, as well as your hunters stats- if they get larger/more successful trails in taiga, then stick to taiga. if you get successful trails in tundra/glacier, then stick to tundra! should also factor in how dire your herb stock is- if you don't prefer having to grind extra hard for herbs, then avoid tundra and glacier as a tundra lover, i have managed just fine! my hunters bring in the exp and food, and i lean on groups to help me with my herb shortage! even these past few days in winter i've been doing just fine, so if you're worried about success rate, take a look at your parties stats and feel free to compare to mine! i think you'll be just fine if you choose the northern biomes as a home :) |
