Can’t set a breeding male?

I’m stuck on this quest unable to set my First wolf as a breeding male?

the message is saying ‘you are not at the required step yet’, but the walkthrough is prompting me to do the things I’m trying to do To set him as my breeding male and I’m following those steps as it tells me to. 

Took me a sec to see how to edit the first post, sorry! 

You need to do the breeding quest from the quest snake before you can set your breeding male. Once completed you should be able to set any adult male wolf as your breeding male. If I can help further let me know.
