Janga cracked a leftover bone in half with her powerful jaws, licking the bone marrow. Once she was done, she tossed the hollow bone aside for the low ranking members of the clan to finish.

Among one of the lowest ranked males was non other than Viggeir. He was often said to be a pretty boy, both an insult and compliment but despite his size he truly was more submissive but it served in his favor. He was often seen hunting with the highest ranked females in which the other males envied; causing various fights to often break out. Ot made little sense to the other males as to why the females were so drawn to the submissive male, perhaps it was gashes across his body which seemed far more severe than even the more dominant individuals. Regardless, Viggeir rarely ever goes out of his way to meet others for he was far too timid.

With his head lowered and tail hung between his legs, the stripped hyena silently fed alongside the higher ranked females, blood dripping down his muzzle as he slowly gazed up then watched the lower ranks razor a brow at the bone marrow being tossed aside; it was of little interest to the others and it showed through their gazes. He chose to continue his meal as the prized hunter watched him intensely, as if ensuring he was having a full meal. Despite his timid, silent ways, Viggeir is a rather grand hunter and outmatched the other males; it was a shame that an unfortunate event in his childhood had led to his timid ways however, else he would have outranked the rest. His mind was calculated and cunning but learnt to embrace a more humble life rather than dominate the rest.

Nsha had been observing the feeding laying a bit further away from the center where it all was happening. It had already been many moons since he had learnt what the clan thought about the elders who were starting to get weaker. Once he had been considered rather high ranking hunter, but now his rank had dropped like a wildebeest's tail. In the days of his youth he had even been able to feed his own cubs and had been able to watch them to grow strong and healthy, however, nowadays he was barely even able to keep his grandson Phenyo alive. Thankfully, the young cub had proven to be a strong one and he really had potential. Phenyo would grow into a fine hyena, Nsha was sure of it.

As the hollow bone was tossed aside Nsha felt his stomach growling. There wouldn't be much to feed on, but it still was better than nothing.

"I'll get it first!" Phenyo who had been chasing a grasshopper called out, but before the little cub sprinted, Nsha had managed to put a paw on his back to keep him still. "Don't charge for food like that, young one. The higher ranks feed first, have a bit more patience and see, if the others want the bone first," Nsha instructed as he looked at the rest of the clan. "But why, grandpa? I'm hungry..." the cub whined, but laid down to entertain himself by playing with the sand while waiting for his grandfather's permission to go grab the bone.

Nsha waited for few more moments, but it seemed like no one else was interested in the bone. "Alright, cub, I think it's safe for us to get it," Nsha said softly his words almost making it seem like they had given Phenyo his life back. "Yay!" the cub called out before he ran to the bone and grabbed it dragging it quickly back to the safer spot Nsha had chosen for them. The elder hyena watched his grandson starting to hurriedly gnaw the bone almost like trying to eat it all with one bite. He laid down again knowing that the position would help with his aching stomach even a little as he kept an eye on both Phenyo and the rest of the clan in case someone would decide to cause trouble.

The Lion Killer was a revered figure in the cackle. Not quite the highest, though. That would come later. Her rank had only gone up since birth, and it was everything to her. She flicked her tail over at a small male nearby, giving him an unsettling grin that spread almost above her eyes.

"Nice hunt, wasn't it? You're rather talented." She yipped.

Viggeir's head shakily rose the slightest of centimeters, the female who was watching intensely tilted her head up as well, her gaze never leaving him. The male soon found himself gazing upon the elder hyena and the small cub; his beady gaze blinking whilst the gashes littering upon his hind legs and muzzle seem to reveal themselves due to the sun's rays. The gashes being a pale, fleshy tint in which fur fails to grow over, his strips even more revealed during daylight hours which helped give shape to various hues of browns that would have otherwise been hidden within the dark of night.

He heard a female speak, but had not a slightest clue who she was talking to, there were other males and the female in question hadn't made her way over nor spoke of his name, '….hm? She must be speaking to another male….', was the only logical conclusion given one often makes it known who they were speaking to rather then assume the male they sought knew they are being spoken to. The females within a cackle were known for their dominance; if they wish to speak to one they not shy away and would have approached the individual. With a shrug Viggeir allowed his curious gaze to stay upon the elder and cub; he often pondered if he will ever have his own cubs but often felt he was too low of a rank to even dream of such. However, before he could allow his thoughts to overcome him his ears rose upon the sound of something dragging, he swiftly snapped his head in the direction only to find the freshly killed prey he was feasting upon is being dragged by a large female all knew well; Kiera. She was one of the largest members of the cackle with nearly half her face torn off, her muzzle has been nearly chewed off which gave a rather grim expression. She looked over Viggeir like a vulture as her muscles rippled in a dominant display; she was seen as Death itself given her family had mysteriously died with her being the sole witness. It was believed she had eaten them to show her dominance. When it came to fights she fought to the death without a single care of what came to her, and her face was evidence of it. Her legs and sides covered in all matter of scars and poorly healed gashes; before Viggeir or anyone else could speak her lips curled to reveal a set of sharp, blood stained teeth.
"Aren't you being a good boy…"
Her voice was deep and raspy, each word drawn out with a slight hum of sheer insanity, a slight growl echoing the depths of her throat. Viggeir went to stand only for his ear to be nipped.
"Sit….stay down….don't move…"
Keira hissed softly in a silent warning.

It wasn't certain how she became so different but when it came to showing her interest in another, she does so in the oddest manners. Viggeir was known for his timid nature but when it came to Keira he found himself latched onto her like a tick and wasn't certain of the reason. Perhaps it was due to her bringing him everywhere she went like a partner in crime but he never wanted to leave her side. A soft whimper left his lips when the large female plopped herself not even a centimeter away from him, allowing her body to squish on top of his in a not so subtle form of claiming what was hers, showing the rest who they must encounter in order to get to him. With a slow motion Viggeir turned his head to face Keira, but as he did she started to nip at his pointed ear with a soft, raspy growl.
"So pretty….for a male…so many…stripes….Kheheheh…."
Her words were hollowed but spoke in depths of her possessive mind; sadly Viggeir often found himself denying her possible interest in him given he lacked the self-confidence to see himself as attractive or desirable among females. His gaze was soon directed back towards the cub however with glossy eyes.
"O-oh he got a bone..!"
His words came as innocently as they sounded, little did he know it triggered something primal within Keira. Her jaws open as she narrowed her gaze upon the cub.
"….you want cubs..?"
Her words slowed and nearly slurred at the thought; her gaze now trailing towards the elder Hyena in which she gave a low grunt towards in the attempt to gain his attention; she refused to leave her position near Viggeir and chose to merely call out to the Elder.
"You….with the cub…."
Kiera's words came in a low, raspy growl resembling an eerie beast of sorts.
"How...difficult is it to raise one of those…those cubs…?"
With each word it was spoken much like that of a being who had never seen another life form in their life; her gaze trailing towards Viggeir whom was absolutely clueless of the hints being dropped in front of him.

To anyone else it was plain as day just how obsessive Keira was to Viggeir, it was on the boarderline of psychosis, the things she had done to keep him safe from others; he was submissive and timid, the other males could have easily killed him ages ago but before they even had the chance they were met with a brutal death, a bloody smile being the last thing engraved in the depths of their mind as all faded to nothingness. The male stripped hyena soon glanced in the direction of the older hyena, tame gaze a stark contrast to Keira's bloodthirsty one.
"His…siblings didn't make it…?"
His question came as low somber, his eyes softened in with the sorrow that soon followed; he not need an answer but felt his heart ache for the cub. It wasn't uncommon for cubs to die during birth or even when trying to feed from their mother; but he always wished for a sibling that could help him on his journey through life. He always felt it would have made things simple, easier to go through the motions of it all. Once more, any subtle changes in Viggeir'a mood hadn't pass by Keira, her right eye twitching as if ready to kill someone but remained silent for the Elder hyena.

Janga shook her head upon seeing the name she was speaking to get bullied into submission by Keira, one of the hyenas that was above herself in the rankings. Janga never showed an interest in any male hyenas, and even though her rank meant everything to her, she was secretly upset by how males were treated. Honestly, it should be a fair fight for a high rank. Not that she could be beaten by a male hyena, but still.

Keira scared everyone. But she didn't scare her.

Nsha had noticed the high ranking female and how close she was with the striped hyena. He didn't personally know the said creature, but knew that he was one of the hunters, he had even seen him hunt few times. His eyes were soon focused back on Phenyo in order to make sure that the cub wasn't hurting himself with the bone he was gnawing. A tiny smirk tugged the corners of Nsha's mouth. Phenyo reminded him so much of the cub's father, his son, when he had been around the same age. So innocent and so curious, always ready to explore and learn about the world.

The elder hyena's thoughts were interrupted when he heard a female calling out to him. Rising his head up, Nsha noticed that the high ranking female who was sitting next to the hunter was looking at him.

"I wouldn't say it's difficult at all to raise the little ones, my lady," Nsha replied. "My grandson here Phenyo, he's very lively and energetic young one so it takes a bit more patience with him. However, there is nothing more precious than the parenthood," Nsha said speaking from experience. He had helped his late mate to look after and raise their cubs after all. The elder male didn't mind at all that the female was asking question about the cubs even though many surely would have found it strange. Nsha, however, was patient and understanding and his words were usually kind. At least that was what the male hoped to achieve every time he spoke.

Nsha turned his attention to the striped male when he heard him speak. He glanced Phenyo before focusing his gaze back to the hunter.

"Phenyo was born as only cub in his litter," he said his ears twitching a little as they picked up the sounds that the cub was making with his bone. "Sometimes I fear he is too lonely, since there aren't many other cubs for him to play with. However, every time I see him... seeing how energetic and active he is reassures me that he is growing up fine," Nsha said sharing few of his thoughts and worries that he rarely spoke about.

It was rather evident to those around that Viggeir was not being bullied to submission, it was a rather complex relationship between he and Keira, a sort of relationship where one may think them as a couple simply because the male seemed content with Keira, and if his name was being called or he was being spoken to then whoever was speaking to him, apparently the female spotted hyena standing off to the side without saying a mere word, failed to even make it known who she was even speaking to. It could have easily been Nsha from what she made it seem.

Keira kept her gaze upon Nsha as he spoke of cubs and raising them, it wasn't at all strange for one to ask of their care. When a female shows interest in having a cub she may watch how they interact with the world around them to prepare herself for the journey of raising offspring, if anyone found it strange perhaps they weren't used to dominant females wishing to have her offspring. With a grunt she peered down at Viggeir who was trapped underneath her, his gaze a bit somber at the thought of Phenyo being the only cub.
"….at least he not has to deal with siblings bullying him…."
He sighed under his breath whilst thinking of his own upbringing. If even one cub survived through the birthing process it was considered a miracle yet every cub has to face their own siblings striving to show their dominance through petty fights. He always found himself despising those who kill their own siblings just for that reason, it seemed pointless unless it was for self-defense.

Janga was one of the cubs who killed her siblings. It was simply in her nature. To be a hyena, you had to be ruthless.

With a yawn, the spotted hyaenid stood up and trotted over to Nsha, Penyo, Viggier... and Keira.

"Hello, Keira. Males." She said cheerfully, though a wide smirk betrayed her benevolent guise.
