Some call for the participants to be exiled. The refusal from Hryhoolou and the krihuhosar to do so brings accusations of nepotism, though Hryhoolou maintains that she would not drive out any member of the pack to raise young pups alone in winter. moon of the ilerrou - The four conspirators have their pups. Rocky Mountain Toad is the only one to have a litter of four; the rest have three pups each. - Three older dispersals wander into the Pines' territory, and attempt to claim an area for themselves. They are easily driven out, but it transpires that at least one was sickly, as disease spreads from the patrol originally sent out to the rest of the pack. - Ruhad catches the disease, and is forced to spend some time recovering. - Rocky Mountain Toad catches fleas. - Mokhoni's littermate Tewakra and a pup from Rogaku's litter badly catch the dispersals' sickness, a form of pox. Within the next half-moon, both are dead. moon of lightening skies - Two of Leir-barru's pups wander down to the riverbank, where a young alligator tries to hunt them. One is bitten, while the other hurts their paw on a rock trying to flee; luckily, a denminder rescues both before they can be more badly wounded. - Siherral becomes pregnant with Twisting Roots' litter. - The Pines are struggling to feed themselves, let alone the winter-born pups, who grow increasingly skinny and weak each passing day. After much deliberation, it is decided that the pups will be abandoned so that the Pines can focus on feeding themselves. - A fight breaks out between Hryhoolou's pups when Fleabite threatens Huckleberry, arguing that if his pups are being killed then Aulosac's daughter should be too. Aulosac and Rulahou attack Fleabite, who is in turn backed up by Toad while the pack watches in horror. The fight is broken up by a furious and embarrassed Hryhoolou. - Hryhoolou takes the pups out alone; she blames herself for the mess, as a result of her children thinking their bloodline gives them privileges the others do not have. She abandons the pups in the burrow beneath an aspen tree, unable to bring herself to directly cull them. On her return to the Pines, she vows that she will never have another pup. - Rogaku sits out most of the drama in Nisemolso's den, struck by a bad bout of influenza. - Irhakrou grows sick and dies, leaving Argamiwou alone. Regretful that she did not retire to spend more time with her mate, Argamiwou becomes listless, only interested in hunting to make sure the Pines are fed. - Hucanighrac becomes pregnant with Sintetus' litter. summary NEW MEMBERS: none. She proves most suited to chasing, so Hwemalrusu becomes their new finisher. - In her first hunt, Urwain’ghrac drives a feral pig over a short cliff and accidentally falls after it. She manages to kill it while it is stunned, although she injures her leg and is forced to rest for some days. - A young lone pup is found on the edge of the Pines’ territory. He introduces himself as Granit, noted as a strange coincidence since he also has fur patterning very similar to Ruhad’s. After meeting Ruhad for himself, the pair bond closely. The new pup soon picks up the nickname Suhad, little granite. - Returning to the hunt for the first time since her injury, Urwain’ghrac helps the Blue Hunt to kill another pig. This time, she succeeds without injury. - Siherral and Twisting Roots’ son reaches his first year of age and disperses. - Oscunau becomes pregnant. moon of running elk - Suhad reaches six months of age and becomes Nisemolso’s trainee, intending to succeed her as the Pines’ herbalist. - Siherral and Twisting Roots have a litter of four pups. - While patrolling the territory, Sintetus discovers a donkey half-submerged in some boggy land; though muddy, it seems fresh and perfectly edible. Oscunau’s litter disperses, while Mokhoni remains, joining the Moonlit Hunt as a chaser. - Tohumok’yol returns from one of her late-night misadventures with a sore throat and signs of influenza. She is hastily quarantined by Nisemolso and Suhad, permitted to return only once they are both satisfied that she has fully recovered. Luckily, no others seem to catch the sickness from her. - Returning to the wolf who sired Sinolsu and her littermates, Ichinu becomes pregnant with what will likely be her final litter. - Oscunau has a litter of four pups. - Aulosac’s leg heals badly, and he is left unable to run as fast as he once could, meaning that he can no longer keep up with prey. Sinolsu survives the food poisoning and recovers, but Feyef grows so sick that he dies overnight. - Eradeiro and Tenokit have three pups. - Argamiwou's remaining son and Ichinu's daughter, Sinolsu, both reach adulthood. Sinolsu remains to join the Icemelt Hunt as a chaser, while Argamiwou's son disperses. moon of blazing heat - Ichinu has a litter of two pups. - Lumatesn catches pox. - One moonlit night, four strange adolescents arrive at the camp. It is soon realised that they are four of the pups abandoned last winter; they claim to have been saved and raised by the Pines’ patron goddess, the Sister of the Same Face, and that they are the only ones to have survived. Much of the pack is suspicious and confused until Hryhoolou and Uruhouou step forth, saying that they have met the Sister themselves and believe the adolescents’ tale. - The four adolescents rejoin the Pines as the acolytes, the living link between the mortal wolves and the spiritual world. Though some were swayed by Hryhoolou’s support, others believe it to have been a trick to install her descendants into powerful positions while still claiming it to not be nepotism. Khosrhac is one such wolf, driven to such disgust that he abandons the pack entirely. - One of Siherral’s pups vanishes in the night. There is a small uproar and suggestions that the acolytes took the pup as revenge for their own abandonment, but the pup’s trail is followed out to its end in the bogs, and no proof is found of the acolytes being involved. Siherral herself defends the acolytes fiercely. - While the drama of the missing pup goes on, Twisting Roots is killed in a tragic hunting accident. The Moonlit Hunt was stalking a herd of deer when they were suddenly startled, and Roots, too slowed by age to outrun them, was fatally trampled. Rogaku is assigned as the Moonlit Hunt’s leader in his place. - Huckleberry reaches her first year of age, joining Lumatesn and Thaulka in their unofficial hunting team. moon of raging storms - Urwain’ghrac catches influenza, and soon afterwards, it passes to Guseghun. - Eradeiro discovers a nearly-whole bison carcass not far outside of their territory. She gathers some assistants, and together they spend the day bringing home as much as they can. The pack eats heartily that night. - One morning, the male pup of Ichinu’s litter fails to wake, although he is still breathing and his heart still beats. Nisemolso checks him over and finds nothing obviously wrong. Later that day, the acolytes visit Ichinu’s burrow and offer their help; Ichinu agrees, and they leave with a tuft of the pup’s fur. They disappear for some time, and just when Ichinu is beginning to worry, they return and her son wakes up. He claims that one of the acolytes, Arhur, guided him out of the place where he had been lost. Arhur tells Ichinu that her son is gifted with spiritual abilities, and suggests that she trains him to use them safely. summary NEW MEMBERS: Saukha, Leiusc, Wounak, Arhur. Posted 2021-03-01 15:40:37 (edited) #361933 year six: autumn moon of the chilled air - Eradeiro and Tenokit’s litter is weaned. - There is a brief infestation of ticks in the camp, and the pack moves rendezvous sites to help prevent the spread. - A late storm hits the Pines’ territory, and the new camp is flooded by the rain, forcing them to move again. In the chaos, two of Eradeiro and Tenokit’s pups go missing; subsequent searches find no sign of either pup. - Hicursei is injured during the evacuation, when Siherral’s son Haklanor is trapped on a floating log. She jumps across to throw him to safety, but the log gives way and she is forced to jump again early, landing awkwardly and spraining her leg. Both escape without further injury and rejoin the rest of the Pines. - Some days afterwards, Wutoul’s family notices he has been absent for unusually long; worried that he was affected by the flood, his daughter Tohumok’yol goes out in search of him. Later that day, she discovers his body, from which it is clear he was attacked by something and died of his injuries. She returns to warn the pack and share the news with her family. - Ichinu’s two pups are weaned. moon of falling leaves - Siherral and Twisting Roots’ three remaining pups become trainees. - Suhad reaches his first year of age, becoming a herbalist alongside Nisemolso. - After nearly a moon of regular patrols and much of the pack confined to camp, Wutoul's killer is finally discovered: a wandering panther seeking to expand its territory. A patrol of four is sent to kill it, Sastilanor insisting on her inclusion so that she can take revenge. She is accompanied by Hwemalrusu, Siherral, and Ruhad. In the fight, all present are variously wounded and Sastilanor, though she deals a blow that slows the cougar enough for her packmates to take it down, is in turn injured badly enough that it is clear she'll die before they can reach help. The rest of the patrol carry her to the site of Wutoul's body, where she perishes at his side. - Siherral and Ruhad recover soon enough from their wounds, but Hwemalrusu's injury worsens to the point of a serious infection. Urwain'ghrac, Tenokit and Uruhouou all refuse to go out hunting, fearing his death while they are gone. - The Icemelt Hunt manages to catch and kill a feral pig. moon of wandering souls - After intensive treatment from the herbalists, Hwemalrusu's infection wanes and the potential threat to his life passes. He is soon afterwards cleared for hunting duties. - During a chase, Tenokit is kicked in the flank by a deer. He is given a few days of rest to make sure he is not internally wounded. - Two of the new trainees leave the Pines to join a nearby burgeoning pack. - Oscunau’s pups reach six months of age and become trainees. - Ichinu’s daughter goes missing. - Urwain’ghrac takes a bad fall while hunting and one of her eyes is scratched; it heals without infection or much effect on her sight. - It transpires that the ticks have followed the Pines to their new camp, when Hucanighrac is found to have caught them. She sleeps away from camp for the next few days, and after treatment by the herbalists, returns with no more cases appearing in her absence. - The Howling Hunt returns after catching a deer. Their first day back, on the night of a full moon, Holursa hears a strange singing that keeps her awake. She continues to hear the song for the next few nights. summary NEW MEMBERS: none. After a long trek, they discover two dispersal wolves out in the drylands, Sihrain’kau and Urwalou; discovering that they have killed a lone bull elk, Holursa eagerly invites them to join the Pines. On their return, Hryhoolou and the krihuhosar accept the newcomers into the Pines due to their hunting skills. - A small pack of wolves arrives on the Pines’ border: the Greymanes, or at least what remains of them. After the death of their last leader Lusoli, neighbouring packs took advantage of the change in leaders to drive them from their home. Their new leader Merollet, Lusoli’s daughter, and her mate decided to seek help from the Pines, remembering that three of the Greymanes’ dispersals - Olsac, Oroulepac, and Ichinu - had joined them, and would be obligated to help their natal pack. - Hryhoolou agrees that the Greymanes may stay over winter and spring to recover, offering them one of the Pines’ currently disused camps. - A few sicknesses break out in camp over the course of a half-moon. Sinolsu develops mange, while a cough that begins with Hwemalrusu spreads to a few other packmates. Ruhad, Siherral and Ichinu in particular catch it badly and are forced to take leave from hunting. - Some days after becoming ill, Ichinu dies of her sickness. - Eradeiro and Tenokit’s remaining pup reaches six months of age, and becomes a trainee. moon of the ilerrou - Eventually, Siherral also dies from illness. Ruhad recovers at around the same time and returns to hunting, grieving the loss of her two companions. - Sihrain’kau joins the Icemelt Hunt as their new stalker. She proves to be notably skilled at the task for a young dispersal. - Hucanighrac replaces her mother Siherral as the leader of the Icemelt Hunt. - Nisemolso becomes pregnant with Kaufolac’s pups. - Ichinu’s young son, now named Louheuro, reaches six months of age and begins his training. - Urwain’ghrac and one of Merollet’s sons, Loam, become mates. Urwain’ghrac becomes pregnant with his litter. - Urwalou becomes pregnant with a Greymane wolf’s litter. moon of lightening skies - Eradeiro catches a slight chill, but recovers quickly. - Thaulka marks the beginning of the yearly thaw by immediately catching fleas. All of the afflicted are cured by the end of the moon. - In pursuit of a deer, the Moonlit Hunt encounter a strange wolf, who claims to be looking for her half-remembered past. After some discussion, she and Fleabite conclude that they were siblings originally of the same pack. The stranger gives her name as Burning Blue, and joins the Pines as a new scout. - Eradeiro becomes pregnant with Tenokit’s litter. - Hucanighrac catches ear mites. moon of new blossoms - Holursa becomes pregnant with Sihrain’kau’s litter. - The Greymanes begin preparing to leave, having recovered enough to try and take back their lands. The rest appear fine and go on to be weaned without issue. - One morning, Uruhouou will not wake up despite otherwise seeming perfectly fine. Nisemolso and Hwemalrusu realise that she has gone to the same place Louheuro became lost in as a pup, abandoning her dying body to seek a new life in the world beyond. Hwemalrusu promises that he will join her there once their last pups are old enough to survive alone. Uruhouou’s body weakens and eventually dies over the next half-moon. - Nisemolso and Kaufolac’s remaining three pups reach six moons of age, and become trainees. - Lumatesn develops mange. - Hicursei and Holursa’s litters are weaned. - Urwalou’s remaining pup reaches six months of age and becomes a trainee. - During an expedition with the pups, one of Holursa’s daughters goes missing. moon of falling leaves - The Moonlit Hunt is attacked by a black bear, attempting to take the boar carcass they brought down. After Guseghun’s face is badly swiped, the hunters are forced to retreat. - Another fierce storm hits the pack, forcing everyone to retreat into makeshift shelters and burrows. When the storm breaks in the morning, it is discovered that one of the trainees - Nisemolso and Kaufolac’s son - and four pups went missing in the confusion. A few search patrols are sent out, but any scent trails are lost in the rain and general wetness of the swamp. - Hucanighrac and Sintetus’ pups become trainees. - Tenokit catches ear mites. - Hicursei’s pup goes exploring unsupervised and is killed by the bear that attacked the Moonlit Hunt. moon of wandering souls - Three trainees out walking together go missing, with strong bear-scent around where their own scent trail ends. There is no sign of a fight or any blood, but the trainees do not return after several days. Later, two pups also go missing under similar circumstances. - Hryhoolou herself decides to lead a patrol consisting of Sintetus, Torsec, Oscunau, Eradeiro, and Urwain’ghrac to drive out the black bear. The fight is fierce, and each of them are variously wounded, but eventually the bear is killed. Victorious, the patrol returns to camp. - After several days, Hryhoolou does not recover from her wounds, and infection begins to set in. Nisemolso and Suhad do all they can to save her, but by the end of the half-moon she is dead. - The krihuhosar and the oolaursa Hwemalrusu convene to lead by council while a new leader is chosen. The Pines’ first change in leader proceeds. - Eradeiro and Sintetus are both put forwards by their respective sects, but it is the third wolf, Urwain’ghrac, who is chosen as the Pines’ new leader. - Urwain’ghrac promotes Hicursei, her strongest supporter, to the new lead hunter. - Oscunau and Ruhad’s litters reach six moons of age and become trainees. - One of the young trainees leaves to join another pack. summary NEW MEMBERS: none. He does not return. - Hucanighrac is badly bitten by a beaver she is hunting, and spends a few days under the herbalists’ watch. - Kaufolac catches influenza. moon of the ilerrou - Sequoia Lit by Sunlight catches influenza from Kaufolac, and both are confined to the herbalists’ den. Kaufolac grows steadily worse until eventually dying. - Urwain’ghrac becomes pregnant with a second litter by Loam, whom she has continued to court since he stayed as a lone wolf. - Sihrain’kau and Holursa’s pups reach their sixth moon, and begin their training. - A new trainee goes out to gather herbs and doesn’t return. - Sinolsu becomes pregnant with Mokhoni’s litter. moon of lightening skies - The influenza spreads to Arhur, Kuniloha, and another of the trainees. - The trainee, one of Oscunau’s daughters, dies of her sickness. - After eating some bad meat, Eradeiro develops a bad case of food poisoning. - Five more wolves fall ill: Sintetus, Saukha, Lumatesn, Sinolsu, and Louheuro. Lumatesn in particular worsens quickly. - Sintetus and Louheuro are not badly affected, and quickly recover within a few days. - Kuniloha becomes severely ill, leaving her confined to the herbalists’ den and unable to train. - Lumatesn dies of influenza. - Suhad and one of the hunters, Urwalou, begin interacting more as the hunters bring most of their catches to the herbalists’ den and go out to gather herbs for them to use. By the end of the moon, they decide to become mates. - Increasingly overwhelmed by the plague spreading through the Pines, Urwain’ghrac breaks off her relationship with Loam. One morning he does not wake; Nisemolso and Suhad guess that he has gone to join Uruhouou in the dreamlands. His body dies a few days afterwards. - Aulosac and one of the trainees die from influenza, and Hucanighrac barely clings to life. - Arhur, Kuniloha, Runuslari, and Sinolsu recover from their sickness. Kuniloha returns to her training. - Urwalou becomes pregnant with Suhad's litter. Soon afterwards she shows signs of sickness, from visiting her trainee daughter in the herbalists' den, and she is put under close watch to make sure she and her pups are safe. - One of the trainees disappears from the pack, assumed to have fled from the plague. - Influenza spreads to Leiusc, Rogaku, Haklanor, and Huckleberry. Huckleberry and Leiusc worsen quickly despite their relative youth. - Two pups are born to Urwain'ghrac and Loam. Soon after their birth, the entire family becomes ill. - A litter is born to Sinolsu and Mokhoni. - Ruhad recovers from influenza. - Haklanor becomes badly ill. - Saukha draws near to death, only just pulling through at the last moment. Arhur believes that the Sister is protecting him. - Once Ruhad has fully recovered her strength and energy from her sickness, she is promoted to an oolaursa. - Almost dead, Rogaku spends several days entirely asleep. The herbalists fear she has fallen into a coma or gone beyond as her mother and Hwemalrusu did, but she eventually stirs, though remains severely ill. - Another trainee abandons the pack. - Ruhad and Oscunau both become pregnant by Amberad. moon of running elk - Louheuro recovers from his sickness. - Kuniloha completes her training and joins the scouts. - The plague spreads wildly: Arhur and Wounak join their fellow acolytes in the herbalists' den, as do the siblings Mokhoni and Holursa with Holursa's daughter Deyin'krat. Tenokit and Oscunau also fall ill. - One of the trainees fleetingly falls ill, though recovers quickly and with no apparent lasting effect. - Saukha, Tenokit, and Wounak grow more badly ill. - Eradeiro recovers from her food poisoning. - Leiusc's sickness becomes sharply and significantly worse; he dies in the middle of a quiet evening. However, both Saukha and Wounak improve somewhat, and Arhur recovers entirely over the next few days. - Hucanighrac comes close to death again, but still does not die. Meanwhile, Leir-barru and Urwalou begin to recover. - One of Urwain'ghrac's pups dies of influenza. Urwain'ghrac herself and her remaining pup start to improve, although the surviving pup continues to be weak. - Hucanighrac and Sintetus' son Gakasar reaches his first year of age, becoming a denminder. - Tohumok'yol and Sihrain'kau join their family in their sickness. Sinolsu catches influenza again, as does one of her pups. Disease also passes to Thaulka, Guseghun, Sequoia Lit by Sunlight, and Rocky Mountain Toad. - Though Guseghun does not appear badly affected, and even shows signs of recovery soon after she falls ill, she suddenly and inexplicably dies. Rogaku recovers the next day. - Wounak, Thaulka, Sihrain'kau, and Holursa recover within a quarter-moon of one another. - Thaulka, frightened by how close she came to dying and still grieving the loss of her brother Lumatesn, leaves the Pines to find a safer home. - One of Sinolsu's pups dies of influenza. - Hucanighrac and Tenokit recover. - Eradeiro becomes pregnant with Tenokit's litter. - After going out to find a mate for her last litter, Rulahou returns expecting pups. moon of new blossoms - A strange wolf, Red Beetle, arrives and requests to join the pack. He explains that he is from the Cyclone Pack, coming to help after Thaulka found them and explained what was happening. - Gakasar, Torsec, and another of Sinolsu's pups catch influenza. - Rulahou visits the herbalists on suspicion of having influenza, but finds she has caught distemper instead. She is quickly set up in a new area away from the other sick wolves. - Huckleberry has her litter of pups. - Urwalou and Suhad have a litter of pups. - Torsec dies of her illness. - Deyin'krat's sickness worsens. - The plague appears to be letting up, as many wolves recover: Tohumok'yol, Saukha, Mokhoni, Haklanor, Sequoia Lit by Sunlight, Sinolsu, and Huckleberry. - Oscuhas, her brother, and Ruhad's children all reach their first year of age. Oscuhas is the only one to remain in the Pines. - The Blue Hunt pursues a deer for an extended time attempting to catch it, though they fail in the end. They return exhausted and overworked, Hicursei in particular suffering from fatigue for some time. - Louheuro and Abeishou fall ill. - Abeishou is not badly ill and soon returns to training. Rocky Mountain Toad, Oscunau, and Deyin'krat also recover. - At the same time, Louheuro, Gakasar, and one of Sinolsu's pups become more badly ill. - Oscunau has a litter of pups.
