Reduced Reliance on RNG (from the perspective of a game maker)

Posted 2021-03-04 11:01:19

I entered this battle at half HP but used lucky feet. I'm out of healing salves as I used more than 150+ so far from the start of the event. Yesterday I just quit a game after defeat like this. This is ridiculous. Just ridiculous. Lvl 15 enemy, lvl 20 lead.

i can def say with the event im. really feeling it. fighting has been more "fun" for me as I have an end goal (LT to get items I want), vs fighting for the sake of levelling up feels like unnecessary suffering. but on the flip to that. MANY fights I had to retreat or almost get my ass whooped for very little reason;;;; I am lucky I have an abundance of healing salves & lucky feet to help me get half as far as I did, honestly.

Yeah, same-- but then I remember that we have a whole 'nother month of this coming up soon, at which point I doubt I'll get as far as I did this time around. Just getting the base + two applicators + three decors = nearly wiped out my entire cache.

Level six enemy :))))))

EDIT for some clarification. My lead is lvl 20 with 137 in smarts and 182 in strenght. I was on half HP because hello? Enemy 14 levels below me, why I even should heal for that fight?

First off RNG does suck in this game but I was hoping I could give some advice thats helped me in fights!

If it helps any, I find that I can win most fights doing the following:

Latch and Crush or shear, whatever gets the enemy to bleed. Latching gives you a chance to deal damage without being damaged in return.
Wait/Rest until the enemy dies. While waiting the enemy usually doesn't attack (there is still a chance they might but usually they don't, especially with a Lucky Foot applied)

I rarely use bite during fights, only because the enemy immediately hits you back!

It's not perfect but it has helped me a lot, I still used a lot salves and feet! Levels 1-10, I don't even have to use salves or feet using this strategy.

Heres a log as example! My lead is lvl 20, the wolf is lvl 20. A lucky foot was used!

-------------

Total energy used: 9.

The Eastern Wolf succumbs to its wounds. You have won this fight.

You got +928 EXP for winning!

[Rolled 3 + 0]You crush the Eastern Wolf with your teeth for 3 damage.

[Rolled 5 + -1]The Eastern Wolf is trying to escape, but cannot free itself from your jaws!

[Rolled 1 + 0]You crush the Eastern Wolf with your teeth for 4 damage.

The Eastern Wolf is wounded and has lost 3 HP.

[Rolled 4 + 0]You bite the Eastern Wolf for 1 damage and lock your jaw on it.

The Eastern Wolf is bleeding and has lost 2 HP.

[Rolled 3 + -1]The Eastern Wolf has broken free from your grasp!

[Rolled 6 + 0]You crush the Eastern Wolf with your teeth for 6 damage. You can feel something breaking under the pressure.

[Rolled 4 + 0]You bite the Eastern Wolf for 1 damage and lock your jaw on it.

The Eastern Wolf attacks you for 5 damage.

[Rolled 1 + 0]You try to bite the Eastern Wolf but miss.

Used a Lucky Foot!

I used to keep trying latch, but it failed too often for me, and I realized that as long as I maintained full health before each battle and only too on much weaker enemies, I was able to bite my way to victory. I never touch rest. My alpha is only level 13 so I pass up more battles than most, but I am nearly at 500 LT despite this.

Latch is too unreliable for me to try, sorry. Even with lucky feet it can fail six (SIX!!!!) times in a row. That's how most of my today's battles ended. So no, latch is not a strategy for me as I tried it before. I bite until I can make enemy bleed and that's what I'm hoping for in my battles. Then I wait. But more often than not an enemy rushes at me and I still loose :P

It's just something I learned during EA and battle that way ever since, so it works for me the majority of the time! But I understand it doesn't work for everyone.

Good luck!
