@traxx they will run if mood or hunger fall below 30%! 

Incase you dont know you can gain amusement items by rescouting a fully explored area.

That doesn't sound right, given that they should only lose 10% amusement in a day and plenty of my wolves have went to 20% and stayed. 
Thankfully I found a couple of Peregrine Feathers stashed and at least have them above the error message percent. 

*at risk* of running if they fall below 30% I believe. 

I COULD be wrong as I'm not an expert 

I was wrong.  They shouldnt run til 0%. 

If they are running early maybe it's a bug?
