As a player who tends to get attached to my wolves, trading them away only to have them disappear because they were neglected is upsetting.
If a wolf runs away and is not bought back by the owner within the time limit, it "goes back home" where the player who bred it is able to reclaim it. This way if the wolf is truly unwanted it will disappear, but the person who bred it has a chance to get it back if they want. It would work just like normal reclaiming, and would take place after the owner ran out of time to reclaim it.
This would help lots of players who have a personal/lore based playstyle who don't want their wolves to disappear from something out of their control.

An option people do is to vet check the people that they are having their puppies be bought from and if someone is buying a puppy but the puppy is only there to be fodder or enclave or just there to fill in the gaps between a pack then you could always block them.

Another thing people do is raise and chase their pups so that they have a chance to show up in the chased pool.

Although I personally get attached to my pups sometimes I only get attached when they are to fill a specific role like taking over a herbalist or a scout or if they had a mutation that would make their value too good to just chase away like pie bald or tier 3 or special base.

Unfortunately part of it, is accepting that even though it is sad that we won't always have our pups go to a home where they are genuinely wanted and needed, that the option to do that is an ntended part of the game and probably shouldn't be too over complicated for its purpose.
