[Year-Round Events] Alternating grind and chill events in the future

[Year-Round Events] Alternating grind and chill events in the future
Posted 1 day ago
A lot of people seem to really like the current state of month-long events, where we have at least a month break between grinding them for the most part (excluding October and November events). However, since the newest event, April, seems to be another very grindy one and time-demanding one, I decided to write down what many players think would be the best for balancing the everyday playstyle, namely: alternate time-demanding, grindy events with easier, less grind demanding month-long events, or leave out a few months alltogether.

Some examples of how this would work:

◇ Starting with January, it could be a very chill event to reserve some strength for February Dating grind (since at the end of the event getting all Dates currently takes 10+ hours). Examples could be maybe something that uses November and February gems, flowers and herbs. Maybe some month-exclusive crafting, some explore encounters and a Storyline. Nothing too big, that doesn't require us to check the game every 15 minutes.
◇ February: Matchmaker. Grindy event.
◇ March: in preparation for April gardening craze, again something Chill. Maybe some exclusive mini game, or something with fishing, where during fishing you can get exclusive rewards or Fishes caught can be exchanged for currency. Fishing is limited to 15 fish per day, so you could do it in one sitting every day, so it could be way more relaxing for people who work full time compared to events like February or August.
◇ April: Gardening event, very very grindy with both gardening and explore.
◇ May: Chill event. Maybe again something storyline-focused, with some features exclusive for the month.
◇ June: I propose a grindy, big event for this month since it's perfectly in the middle between April and August, separated by Chill May and July.
◇ July: Something Chill. Maybe something related to summer, maybe a series of festivities with some minigames where you can submit a score once a day. Again, something that can mostly be completed in single sitting every day not counting some explore encounters.
◇ August: Cataclysm event. Super, super grindy and demanding, deemed the hardest of them all by majority of playerbase due to being time and resources-consuming.
◇ September: Maybe some Chill Autumney event. Some raccoon wares specialties for example! With special favours we have to do for raccoon.
◇ October: Halloween Spectacle. Not as demanding as Cataclysms, yet still grindy with trick or treating, bars that were hard to unlock last time, and Storyline that requires you to explore a lot.
◇ November: Coigreach. Not as grindy, but with majorly depending on Explore to earn currency it can be time demanding.
◇ December: Chill event! December Gifting is very liked as it is :) i suggest we could Expand it by something small, but definitely Not too much. Players like it being just a season of Gifting, which on it's own can be Heavy on both currency and resources since everyone wants to get their friends nice gifts. Adwent calendar is also perfect, since it doesn't even require you to roll over every day to get all the goodies, which is great for taking a much needed break after a Streak of Aygust, October and November grind!

Alternatively, the Chill months could get a week-two weeks events, instead of a full month ones, similar to lunar event. I personally like the idea of a month-long event that is Chill, like December Gifting, but that's something to be polled!

Thank you for reading, feel free to add more suggestions in the comments! :D

Support! One of the things that stopped me from getting into lioden is the very grindy status of every monthly event. it makes me less willing to invest my time overall because it feels too demanding, especially since I'd be playing it simultaneously with wolden. We still have a long time to go before we get all our months full here, and having intermittent events would be great for keeping months exciting while preventing burnout with the game. It would be easier to implement for the devs, too! I see it as a win on all sides.

I feel like one of Wolvden's main appeals is being a "low time commitment" game. Due to my lifestyle, I don't have much time to sit down and play lengthy video games. I do, however, have 10 minutes here and there to log in and maintain my account. That sporadic playstyle would be hindered by 12 months of grind-heavy events, and only increase the gap between older and newer players. The solution OP proposes is perfect for wolvden's audience and for the devs, who are also stretched between wolvden and lioden.

@FaithInUs thank you for the support! I think it's also worthy to add that Wolvden has way more demanding playstyle at it's core than Lioden, as in, we have way more things we have to do to keep the pack alive. On Lioden there's 1 hunting party, 1 patrolling sub-male, and your King's energy regenerates twice as slow. On wolvden, we have max of 4 hunting parties, 2 scouts, a Herbalist, puppy training lessons that take some time to set up properly and complete, pupsitting is more than just adding 5 puppies to every pupsitter and we have to spend time to optimise the protection they get, and energy regenerates twice as fast as on Lioden. Not to mention winter already usually ups the playtime given that your hunting parties fail more hunts, so usually you need to send out more.

This with very grindy Lioden-like events would really exhaust a lot of players and just leave very little time for anything else. It could consume several hours of the day, which is unrealistic for most players.

And I agree that it would definitely also reduce the load on the dev team! Managing two games at once is already hard as it is :)

Gonna support this.  For me as a relatively new player, the events are my best way to gain resources and it's a good alternation between busy and restful.  And yeah the gap between April and August seems awkwardly long without an event.  Then again, Lunar is a thing and maybe something can be done to enhance it, just a suggestion.
