The Biome Project (LF contributions, WIP)

Making a new reply instead of just editing since this is an interesting thread and I’d hate to see it die: quick notes on some other biomes I’ve explored since November!

  • Grasslands and Prairie are boring imo, although part of that might be the background art of Grass Unlimited™. Doesn’t seem like there’s much in either place that I can’t get more elsewhere.
  • Coniferous Forest is great for bears and general battles; the moose bull seems surprisingly easy to take down (at least with a lucky foot and decent energy+HP)?? Don’t waste your acorn on the little red bird (gives a slight hunger boost) but otherwise the encounters are all-around decent.
  • Desert is great for healing thanks to that bird encounter, and I feel like it’s got other HP boosts but don’t quote me on that. I would also suggest not using acorns on the owl because all you get is a small carcass, but also the owl is cute and I am a sucker and I give it the acorn every time. YMMV
  • Seconding all the original post’s comments about the Tundra and Glacier. Very similar; there’s the Tundra, and then there’s the Extreme Tundra (Glacier).
  • I’ve only explored the Taiga for like, two days, but it also seems pretty decent with HP encounters? And food. I’ve locked myself into biomes for lore reasons twice now and, while I’m not keeping track this round, this place seems much more abundant than the Coniferous Forest.

Still haven’t checked out the Deciduous Forest, Riparian Woodland, Swamp, or Rainforest, and possibly won’t within my current/first lead’s lifetime. But tl;dr: Mountain’s all-around good (if scant compared to other biomes), spam the Desert for healing, Coniferous Forest and Taiga are good for food, and the Tundra and Glacier are great for an overall challenge.

I started in DF, then moved to CF, and finally settled in Taiga where I've been for ages, breeding and grinding for stats. I don't care much for herbs or healing encounters. What I care about most is leveling and food. I've hunted everywhere north of the DF and here's the scoop...

DF - Elk! A large prey trail here will always lead to a beautiful and delicious Elk. Cows are 17 uses and bulls are 20. Don't be intimidated, even if you're new and your hunters are low-statted. Hunting large prey will help them level up faster and gain stats.

CF - Bison! These legendary giants are not limited to the Prairie and Grassland, they live in the CF too. Hunt a large trail and you might get lucky and snag a 28 use Bison, enough to feed many hungry mouths. Even if you're unlucky, you can still get an Elk or a Moose.

Taiga - Moose! These mighty forest dwellers are 24 uses each, well worth the effort and the risk. I've noticed that my hunters get hurt more often when hunting moose than other large prey, so make sure you have Open Wound Salves handy when hunting here. There are also 20 use Caribou and Elk.

Tundra - Muskox! These woolly behemoths roam the Tundra waiting for a daring hunting team to take them on. They have 24 uses each and show up frequently at the end of large trails here, along with Moose and Caribou.

Glacier - Walrus! These are the biggest prey in the entire game, with a whopping 30 uses each. Only the strongest and bravest hunting teams have a hope of capturing one of these mythical beasts. But if your team is successful, your pack will be rewarded with a meal unsurpassed anywhere. I wouldn't even think about moving here until you have a team capable of bringing down a Walrus.
