Chased Wolf Spotting!!!

Posted 2021-07-31 19:19:24
@Saeginko Same on the muties, except mine's with lore. Especially when I have one wolf in particular that I really want him to have a spider pup. The likelihood of that... well, I don't even want to think about it. And I have a group of wolves that, lore-wise, would be the ones who take in the mutant pups and immortalize them, but uh, they might be there a while. Doesn't count if I buy them, and idk about spending 100+GC on something that's just gonna sit there and look sad about it.

I can't see lethal chances being increased by inbreeding, and for one main reason: It gives an unbalanced advantage. Currently, lethals are primarily rng, so they can pop up in any pairing, in that G1 pair of chased, or the inbred as hell G15. Similarly, you can get pugs, albinos, and melas from NBW carriers, or that multi-gen albino that seems to have all the albinos in their heritage. If the chance of a lethal increased with inbreeding, it would only increase the chances for some of the player population while disregarding the other.

@ OleanderOmen

I suppose I can see that; and it'll encourage some wild inbreeding. I think the issue we're trying to figure out is how to make inbred/long-lined wolves desirable as even G4+ Tier 3's right now aren't selling. If not lethals, than some sort of incentive to place value on dirty wolves. I don't think there would be much of an advantage/disadvantage for certain players to lose in either situation, unless that player doesn't like inbreeding (i.e., me, I don't think I could stomach several gens of such).

@ Zeraki I really enjoy discussing/figuring these things out! For someone who ignored most of my economics class, I'd really like to think of ways to balance out the market for any and all wolves being sold.

Edit: Also, I am so so sorry about helping derail this thread from chased wolves. I love 'em and hope to see more found and posted soon. x)

Maybe an NPC who researches wolf genetics wanting to study the effects of inbreeding coughcough conservationists coughcough in the various stages of a wolf's development, and take in a few wolves a week/two weeks, and get a cure-all or something for the research? Right now, I'm just a bit salty because after reaching level twenty, I have not encountered a single chased wolf, and only two starred nbw.

Agreeing with Coyote - the topic of inbreeding and mutations here stems from inbreeding being viewed as lower than worthless and undesirable. I'd like to see wolves with any degree of inbreeding catch people's attention much like a Teardrop or Lily NBW. The market could use some stabilizing for inbred wolves and mutation chances could be a way to go about that. It's not necessarily leaving part of the playerbase behind, it's adding new avenues for marketability, interest, projects, and new challenges. Things we can all benefit from.

Like for example, I like that there's a market for raffle markings. I personally couldn't care less so I'd never partake, but I'm glad others can benefit! (Assuming people get anything from Panda and Wings and such, I don't actually know if those get any income.)

I realise that I get a lot of NBWs in the mountains and that is where my pack is at. Maybe explore in your home biome to test this because I'm not sure

i remember back in say, feb, i joined wolvden again after not having been on since november. when i joined again, T3 prices were triple what they are now and the wolves that i could buy were inbred and had terrible lines. i still bought them though and spent all that GC to get them.

however, the market value has tanked so bad and so quickly for them. when my NBW chromium was my stud, i couldn't sell his puppies at all, even if they were second gen. let alone third. i feel like we almost need a "cultural reset" or something on the site. such as an influx of new players from other breeding games, who find the obsession with lineages being short bizarre - i don't even think lioden is like this.

but with the current userbase, i don't think mindsets are going to change without some push in a certain direction. i almost wonder if when people buy a "bad" line T3 from me now to offer alongside it refunded breedings or something similar.

not to mention (excuse my double posting) it is just so much more fun to play whenever you're not obsessed about lineages. i went back and checked my lioden account from when i was 16. the lions i valued the most and loved the most were inbred - but to me i just saw cute lions with markings i loved!

i didn't even care or notice at the time. it can be disheartening for other new users to join and share wolves that they find special and i'm sure get told that they aren't as valuable because of their lines. i see it happen.

Lioden has people much more flexible with lineage, I'm able to sell G5s and G6s with ease because they're always so gorgeous and I think many people on Lioden want really pretty lions. In wolvden it's the same where people want really pretty wolves, but Lioden's breeding accounts were always active and always had the GB to get really expensive lions as kings and stuff like that. And I think when wolvden was made, the majority of the breeders came to wolvden instead of the people who were more flexible because breeders only care about selling the best wolves/lions. I try to keep my studs in Lioden short, it has been a while since I've been on Lioden but I can't really juggle two of these types of games at once, I even had to quit Flight Rising because it got too much for me to manage. Aaaa I would love to show you guys my den in Lioden eeeeee, I love my lionesses so much and the decor on them is just GORGEOUS. If only I can do the same in wolvden... decorating my wolves. But I literally can't decorate them as much as I want to because I don't get enough SC and I don't have enough SC with GC to get custom decor. Wolvden is certainly different from lioden when it comes to selling and studding, they care that as long as the lines are clean that it doesn't matter too much. There are some that care a lot about short lineages but at least I could still sell my G5s and G6s with no trouble to the ones who didn't care about lineage
