Help me perfect a pup pricing formula!

Posted 2020-12-18 13:01:53

@WolvesOutcast, the trouble with the special markings is once they come out people start breeding for them like crazy. So they're ridiculously valuable for a while, then the value plummets because the marking is everywhere, and then (hopefully) the market stabilizes and they're more valuable but not outrageously so. Hence some people talking about a modifier that helps deal with the market being oversaturated.

@hollowworl7 ontop of that I've seen merles and unites sold for crazy cheap like 25sc. I got lucky and sold mine for 80 because they had double merle and red tamaskan but none of the others are selling. I'm debating when they're almost grown chasing them if they havnt sold. Rather than get desperate for the cash that way in not helping aid in selling cheap and making it harder for others like me trying to sell.

@WolvesOutcast I chase a lot of pups. Probably 70% of the pups I breed, I chase. If it's not T2 and the stats are less than 400 I don't even try to sell them. Males I used to chase immediately as well but now that there's pair bonding I'm sending a few here and there out into the TC and hoping for the best.

@Bonibaru How does one go about higher stats? I cant get above 300 though now that pair bonding is a thing i can breed my close to 400 stat wolves to try and get those high stats.

@WolvesOutcast stats are one of the few predictable things in the game :)  so that's why pricing them is maybe a little easier for me than markings and bases are, lol. We've been collecting data from the leaderboard wolves ever since early access and there's a calculator available that's still pretty up to date. It will tell you a range to expect from the parents' stats (expanded to include the possibility of a Runt penalty or a Largest Pup boost) - see Tab 2 for predicted breeding stats and Tab 1 for predicted individual stats from leveling. Come to think of it I don't know if this would be helpful for your pricing formula, but if you're going to include a factor for baseline stats at birth, you might be  able to even predict what the minimum baseline stats would be at maximum level (the calculator can't account for random +1 stats gained from battles or scouting, of course) and factor in a wolf's future potential? Anyway the calculator is here.

this is fascinating! i dont have much to add, but i am a mass breeder and update my trades daily with many different wolf traits. if my listings might be of help feel free to use them!

info i can provide:

  • most of my pups barely sell for 1-5sc
  • my tII pups list for around 10-30sc or they dont sell until adulthood in my personal experience
  • in my experience, marking preferences go down the list like this: combo>merle>inuit>tamaskan>others
  • a lot of players dont know which marks are combos and therefore list at low prices. ive gotten most of my combo marked wolves underpriced (at least in my opinion). this definitely doesnt mean theyre not worth it lol
  • 300+ stats are around where people seem to start caring. my 300+ stat pups all went faster than normal and many had watchers (listed for between 1-30sc per pup based on potato-yness)
  • gender doesnt seem to affect whether or not i get a buyer. i think the gc:sc ratio is low enough that people are more willing to just buy one for a decent wolf and with the addition of bonded pairs im seeing even less preference in my own trades
  • the popularity of a base jacks up the price like crazy. most of my tII based wolves go for less than 1gc UNLESS they are a base like lavender or arkose. this is the biggest wrench i can see being thrown into the formula lol. its hard to predict what people simply enjoy looking at more

hope this helps! this is all personal experience and opinions

Just popping back in to say how grateful I am for all this amazing discussion going on! It has seriously been wonderful to read everyone's comments about developing their own formulas or adding in suggestions about what could be valuable! I haven't had time to sit down and respond to each and every person like I'd really hoped to do, what with near-constant knitting I've been doing ahead of Christmas, but I've been trying to keep bumping the thread to encourage folks to keep engaging and hope to get back into this after the holidays are over. To show my appreciation for you all I also went through and left a gift for every single person who commented on this thread! It's nothing major as I don't have a ton to spare but hopefully it will aide in your crafting adventures :D Happy holidays y'all, and thanks for helping this bad-at-math data nerd feel a bit better about herself.

does the sex changer have to be added even when it was never changed?

In my experience, the biggest factor should be stats. I have no problem paying a fair bit for 400+ stats (bought a Feldspar 450 stats boy with two markings for 500sc, for example), and for now, I usually manage to sell my 400+ stats pups for 200+ sc.

Tier II+ and number of markings + presence of combos should have the other biggest influence, I think.
