Sex Changing a Previous Breeding Male

To unassign a breeding male you follow these steps

The retire function from your wolf's page kills them. This is the only way to retire a breeding male and keep him in your pack.

Thank you for the tutorial Scarlet! I should put more forethought into my actions, I hadn't even thought about there being two entirely separate "Retire" buttons for the breeding male role. Lesson learned, I am grateful for the input.
