Custom decor: Display items in a random order (or spotlight random items)

One of the things about custom decor that seems a real shame is that they display in alphabetical order, which automatically gives decor more exposure if someone names it starting with "An" or a bracket (even when unnecessary)! This encourages silly naming, but even without that issue, the difference in exposure for items early in the alphabet is a real shame.

My suggestion is the following: show decor items in a random order, or spotlight 10 random items on the first page.

Obviously random displaying gets complicated because there are multiple pages of decor, so you can't have it re-generate the randomness every time someone switches pages. One way to implement it would be to set a seed, which gets passed as a parameter when the user clicks the "next" button (or any page number button) on that page, allowing it to generate the correct page of items. The seed would only get re-set when they visit the page from a "fresh" URL (i.e. via Crossroads or manually entering the URL).

This may be overkill, though. So alternatively, another way to achieve good exposure would be for the custom decor page to display 10 random items, and have a button that says "show me 10 more random decors" if people want to just randomly browse. From the main page, you could still click through to browse them all in alphabetical order.

This could also be joined with the suggestion to allow previewing of custom decors, by allowing people to click a randomise button that tries on a random custom decor

Support! I was wondering about a system like sorting by newest added; but tbh random items on the front page is a really cool idea! That way there's always a chance of getting eyes on your decor, which as a creator would be really nice.

I love this idea! The main page of Wolvden (logged out) does similar already with displaying a handful of random items, and I've always liked it.
