Mutation Theories?

There was an interesting paper published not long ago confirming that dire wolves weren’t actually wolves at all, and in fact followed their own evolutionary branch! What this means for a Primal mutation, who knows... gigantism would be neat, but maybe at the cost of a shorter lifespan? Also, polydactyl wolves please and thank you. Even MORE toe beans. |

Another addition - I'd just like for their to be a large range of disorders that are caused by disorders during twins development, as well as ones that go by Poly- and affect digits or limbs. There are quite a few that fall under this. Some already exist in game so I didn't include em. Polydactyl is extra digits, like a couple extra toes. A lot of people's cats have this, may be hereditary. Syndactyly is the conjoining of digits, so, one extra thick toe instead of the normal two. Amelia is when limbs are shrunken, disfigured, and missing. I think this one is extra important, many people live without a limb, whether congenital like this, or not. I also would love for cleft lip / palate, though I'm not sure how it would be implemented. This is usually caused by environmental factors, pregnancy issues, or Mother issues, like drugs, alcohol, obesity, abortion failure, etc. Which are all environmental factors that don't really.. happen to wolves. Edit: I cannot help posting on this because mutations, genetics, hereditary biology is my favorite thing, I'm planning to major in it! |

Ooo there should be a like bird wolf were you have like wings on a wolf and the feathers go on the back of the legs and they have a crest for certain breeds of birds to be mutated for the wolf. |

Because mutations are meant to be realistic, this likely wont happen. However, you can achieve the look with custom decors! |

I expect Coywolves and wolfdogs to be the only hybrids that are attempted on Wolvden tbfh, if just because fox hybrids are biologically impossible, along with hyena hybrids, as hyenas aren't even canids. They're most closely related to mongooses and civets :p The devs place a lot of emphasis on stuff being realistic (to a point anyways we can have pink wolves so...) with genetics, so while a primal-type mutation feels like it can eventually show up, I expect a coyote-wolf hybrid to be the first big drop. Toe mutations like Coyotea mentioned are also big possibilities! I'm hoping for coat mutations as well, like wirehair. |

I don't know if the Wolvden devs want to make hybrids, and wolves are a lot more limited with what they can even hybridize with to begin with (pretty much just coyotes, dogs, and jackals), but it would be awesome to see! My ideas for muts are the following: Primal Direwolf with a thick, stocky body, broad head, fluffy tail and heavy coat. Similar to how the primal mutation in Lioden is. Coywolf Slender and long legged with more pointed ears— opposite appeal of the primal. Wolfdog There could be multiple variants based off of the most popular dog breeds people mix with grey wolves to produce wolfdogs: huskies, german shepherds, akita, etc. Or they could simply choose a base that makes the wolf look more "dog-like" and friendly with a misfit appearance. |
