XP Minigames

XP Minigames
Posted 2021-03-07 09:46:36 (edited)

This idea was inspired by my wolf, Guardian wolvden.com .

I apologize in advance if I loose you along the way as I'm not great at explaining things XD

My idea is a simple fix to a problem I'm (and I'm sure many others are) experiencing. This is mainly geared towards Sitters but can be applied to all roles and even leads. The issue is Sitters get terrible xp but are always needed if you plan to do any breeding. This means at least one wolf is condemned to be a non breedable wolf because it just won't grow enough to produce quality pups. My solution is one that serves a dual purpose. 1 Additional xp gain once (or maybe twice) a day and 2 a fun way to pass the time while waiting for you hunts to end or scouts to return. A Minigame! Again, once (or twice) a day, you can play a minigame that grants the wolf extra experience. It would also provide a way for players to interact with their favorite pack wolves in way that we do with our leads. Below are some themed ideas for each Role.

Sitters

A herding game could be possible here since sitters have to round up pups or maybe a game where you have to care for the pups. (Feeding and playing) Another idea that can tie into another development idea is a game where the Sitter teaches the pups and this plays into how well the pups learn for the Puppy Trianing Update.

Herbalist

This one can be a game of identifying herbs or illnesses, the more you guess right in a certain time determines the xp you get. Or perhasps a game of actually mixing the herbs into the salves/cures, then maybe the quality of meds you produce decides the xp.

Stalker

This one could be a mix and match game of matching prey to their scent trails or hiding places. Match as many as you can in a short time for the xp.

Chasers

This one I was thinking could be like a dumbed down version of temple run to keep up with prey. The xp for this one would be a set amount. You keep up with the prey, you get 100% of the reward, loose it and you only get 50%.

Finisher

This one I'm rather unsure so maybe a simple tile game of Memory where the tiles are various prey animals. Then there's like a timer and however many matches you make in that time determines how much xp you get.

Scouts

This one is my favorite idea but that's just because I love the game. This one can be an I Spy. Have a list of items you have to find and a timer for how long it takes you to find them all. The longer it takes, the less xp. Or maybe swap it and give a certain time limit and a list and however many you find determines your xp.

Lead

This one may be controversial since there are other ways to get xp for leads but this one is a simple game of making good leadership choices. Like provide the player with a question of Judgement like, "Some wolves are feeling sick after eating last night's kill. What should you do?" And give some options like, "Ignore it, it'll pass." And "Investigate the food for parasites or spoilage." You'd get xp either way but poor choices would get minimal results and good choices would have much better rewards.

Now these game would be played for each wolf so each one might do better or worse and result in various xp gained for the whole pack. Much like how a whole hunting party can go out and return with each wolf receiving different amounts of xp.

Adding a revised thought, March 11th : As they are Minigames and meant to be fun, maybe we can play them unlimited times but each wolf has a cap to what they can earn in a certain period. Much like the fishing game. (But please I beg, don't make the xp cap 100 like the SC cap on the fishing XD)

I'm completely open to more game ideas if you have them. Simply show your support and suggest them here in the comments ☺

To be honest, i love the ideas but im going to have to no support for this one

currently to most it seems scouts are the most “op” as it gives 1k exp per scout

but for hunting you could obtain 800~ for succeeding at a medium trail in the tundra(yes im aware its harder i know, but 800for 30mins translates to 2400 for 90mins which is much better than a scout and doesnt kill your entire energy bar)

as for herbalist, theres a lesser used tactic of gathering up a stupid amount of puppies and using them to farm diseases and diagnosing for exp, sounds ridiculous and expensive but its cheaper than scouting whilst spamming guarana and it takes 0 energy and still alows your herbalist to gather tons of herbs etc or if youbrealky wanted to, farm even more exp via swappibg your herbalist to scout to gain even more exp, based on some number crunching spamming guarana+running a sick den at max capacity would allow you to lv1-20 a wolf in 2weeks

i really love the idea, but currently exp gain is waaaay too unbalanced and for some methods, overpowered  for such a thing to be added, perhaps after some buffs/nerfs to exp gain i may change my opinion

Like I said before, this is mainly geared towards sitters. When I pitched the idea to a friend he came back with "But what about all the other roles?" So implemented them half-heartedly. I do agree the scouts don't need a helping hand but an I Spy mini-game (purely for the game section) would be nice XD

Support :3 I love little minigames, and these seem like they'd be really helpful for players! TBH I'd totally play the leadership one for hours if it was possible

These all sound great. It's not very useful for scouts and leads, but I really like the prospect of being able to interact with pack members.

The two scout limit has made it a little difficult to raise the stats of wolves I want to make hunters. When they age up I make them scouts for a while before adding them to a party or forming a new one and it takes a while when you can only do two at a time, or only one if there's a dedicated permanent scout. I'm not the best example, though, because my playing style is a little weird. Just look at all my pair bonds.

 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I love the Pupsitter minigame!!

Reminds me of this old flash game. The sheep ran away from your cursor (sheepdog) and had to be herded into pens. I would LOVE a game like that!

Imagine randomly generated levels, avoiding spikes/bears while herding pups into a cave. A squirrel that makes the pups go crazy chasing it (so you need to catch it before you can herd them again), pickup items that make pups/cursor run faster/slower...

Omg someone please make this silly game XD

@soft_descent

That's what I do as well but for all roles 😬 (Except sitter as there is no point) I put them on as scout till at least lvl 10 then swap them to their designated roles. Unless I intend to breed them, then they get the lvl 20 Treatment before heading off to their role.

@Wyrdwulf

That sounds adorable and much better than what I envisioned XD
