first of all, most of the humans encountered are hunters / survivalists. (ive only encountered 2, so far, spare me if im wrong) that puts the stigma that the humans encountered are there to HUNT, or kill off wolves / animals. and besides, this game strives for *some* realism, and including a world with man-made objects but no humans, would be strange all on its own. lioden, the sister account to wolvden, as many human encounters, both good and bad. i would respect and even encourage to have extra human encounters that are good too. if you want diversity and representation, then you need BOTH. not just "good" ones. and while media can influence opinions, it has to be EFFECTIVE media. having a one-off battle encounter (which you dont even get all that often do to the MANY other encounters). this argument hold the same weight as saying playing violent video games makes you a violent person. and again, its the PLAYERS choice to fight humans - not some unavoidable coding, not because you're an actual wolf. anyone who has an account on wolvden is for the same reason. we love wolves, and i would be surprised if anyone here *actually* supports wolf hunting. i've been against any and all kinds of trophy hunting (basic whitetails being the only exception, really) since i could remember, but this is just silly. and people do have the right to fear wolves, not to kill them. im not going to tell a person that grizzly bears are sweethearts just because people in the world own bears, and that you shouldn't be afraid of them, but im also not going to tell them to kill any bear, ever. all wildlife deserves to be left alone, say for absolute human intervention (i.e rescues) and to be critical about human battling would impose the idea the wolf is cruel, is hypocritical to other things the player can do, which would easily give off the impression that the wolf is cruel, even more so than just human battles. (i.e being able to eat raccoon kits, hunt seal pups ect) nobody who hates wolves, would even come close to even KNOWING about this game. and to disable the battle option just because more than a few players find the idea having a visually non-graphic encounter upsetting, would just upset the majority of players whose been looking forward to the addition of humans to the game. there are much, MUCH bigger things to be worried about in the real world, and its not like any of those are happening in here. if lioden can add humans no problem, (which people hunt lions just as much!) , why would it be such an issue here? maybe instead of worrying about what *possible* impression fighting humans could give to an outsider, maybe lets focus the same energy into conserving ACTUAL wildlife. removing humans from the game, battle or not, would make no change to the actual opinion people have about wolves. humans can and will be unnecessarily cruel to ANY and ALL types of wildlife, not just to large predators. EDIT: and to assume that a persons first impression of wolvden is that "you can battle and kill humans" is a pretty weak argument, assuming thats even something to get remotely upset about in the first place. you can customize wolves, play games and so so much more than just battling. we have NEON wolves that can have three eyes for gods sake, i think theres a lot more to this game than if someone somewhere is going to start clutching pearls and their guns because some pixelated human was a threat to you. its a BATTLE encounter for a reason, its not like you are jumping some helpless human whos obviously not any real harm. in the tundra, you literally encounter a hunter human, in cold camo with a sniper rifle, and we are expected to not take that as a threat? |

As a side note, I feel neutral about it. I have humans involved in my pack lore, but don't really care if they exist in game encounters. There are already many things in the game itself that I ignore for my pack lore, like the lunar event, for example. |

I think this thread has a skewed idea of what the popular opinion is. |

I did find it a bit immersion-breaking at first, as in my head there weren't humans in the universe, but no doubt I'll get used to it pretty quickly. |

Do happen to have a link to the poll, or even the general time it was posted so I can track it down? I don't remember voting in it, but I'd like to see how it turned out. Thanks! |

clearly the majority of players either wanted humans, or felt neutral about adding humans. out of everything the developers do, adding direct human contact is very small part of the entirety of wolvden. |
