Please don't introduce humans as battle-able enemies

Posted 2021-07-03 21:50:20

@slothie

as am i. i want to collect every item in game, cause im a completionist lol. im worried there will be quests, trophies, recipes, achievements, etc. that requires killing/injuring humans. which would get in the way of gameplay, mainly quests, which cost a lot to just skip.

If it's a trophy from an encounter, I'm fine with it. But any trophy required from killing a human is where I have the problem.

I know, I know, it's the 3rd time I'm coming back, lol. I completely agree with the points that were mentioned above with quests, triggers and competionists.

On the trigger point, I see myself a lot. I am a victim of 10+ years of animal-on-animal and animal-on-human aggression related PTSD and the thought of a wolf attacking a human can be very nightmare inducing to me as I "visualize and hear" scenarios a *lot*. I see incredibly graphic animal violence in my dreams enough as is and I am not interested at all to see more of that on a wolf sim game I find comfort in. Especially not with things like human bones, skulls, teeth, etc, as I have personally gotten awful injuries and physical scars and would hate to remember my trauma more than I already do.

I think I am starting to grow *okay* with at least humans being present at least in home biomes since I can go in different ones and compeltely ignore the home biome anyway, I just don't want to HAVE to fight the humans for the sake of quests or worse, events. I can personally ignore encounters as I click mindlessly but it's not something everyone can do because of RNG, and that is something to keep in mind.

I do no support.

There's already human enemies in Lioden and they are basically scum. So I enjoy killing them. I imagine the human enemies will be poachers here as well. And as others already have mentioned, you can skip them if you don't wanna battle them.

Edit: I can't help but feel that people are looking way much into this. It's really not that deep and won't cause a global meltdown. Should we delete all games were you can kill wolves or vice versa? Why don't people on Lioden care about humans? I don't want Wolvden to be a way toned down version of Lioden in term of content. And I also think people underestimate young players. I'm pretty sure they are capable of understanding that wolves aren't evil for defending themselves against humans.

People killing wolves out of hatred is vile. There's a lot of wolf hating hunters in my country. But this goes for many other animals, especially predators. I don't feel we should have to skip humans only because of people being uncomfortable or skipping them for ruining the vibe of Wolvden. We shouldn't shun conflict in a game. But sadly, conflict and negative themes are starting to become a taboo thing it seems.

Actually--aren't humans already in Wolvden? I see a town when I go to hunt in the Grasslands.

Perhaps there could be some positive encounters? Like putting on a show for human tourists or something? The player wolf already struts their stuff in front of grouse :p

@icewolf

Completionists cant skip them, theyd be forced on such users. Esp if quests or trophies come out of them. Also not everyone enjoys killing "evil" people in games. Games that have this are usually advertised as such and come with content warnings so people who dont want that content can decide not to play the game, wolvden is not such a game therefor it could harm people who cant handle it even in fiction. You wont be able to opt out of having humans rng into your explore session and its a waste of energy to skip them (some of us cant afford to keep buying energy refils so every step counts) and youll lose a whole day of quests if you end up with a human related quest. If trophies and crafting items start being dropped by humans that could also harm players who dont like human battles. So, no the point of "you can just skip them" isnt a very strong one sorry! (I hope that wasnt rude i dont mean to be)

Basically. Unlike other games with human violence, wolvden is not advertised as such and content warnings are nonexistent. Humans would be forced on anyone whos a completionist and would alienate those fans.

Support!

Thank you! I wish I come sooner if i have seen this.

I have numerous problems with this, and I am coming from a conservation background

My big, big issue with this is similar to Sinxerelys opinion of making humans being the villains. This is not true and allot of the time this viewpoint comes with, dare I say it, racist undertones. Mainly because it puts wolves in conflict with communities that live close to nature, who are generally less affluent and have more to lose if a wolf takes an animal. In addition, many first nation communities still carry out traditional activities like trapping and hunting --- this is good when managed sustainably(which it often is). If humans are included how could they be incorporated into the game positively, we have co-existed with wolves for thousands of years and it hasn't always been negative otherwise we would not have dogs.I also want to note 🕸️Websteak🥩 point that it also kinda supports the anti wolf lobby, by perpetuating an us versus them. While this is a sim game adding humans introduces a controversial and political aspect I would really not want to see.

I think it would add a very distasteful layer to the game.

I'm dropping back in to say I agree with Icewolf.  Those of you who read my first post already see where I draw parallels: I'm against this for similar reasons to Icewolf.  The youth are generally more intelligent than we give them credit for, though I know not everyone may have the same experiences or level of understanding, as we're all different.  The second restatement from Icewolf's post is that I don't want to see this being a taboo.  Unfortunately, Icewolf, that is the way the pendulum has been swinging of late.   All I can say is I really do not want to see us unable to have games with certain elements because it is seen as a taboo, again, like Icewolf.  I'm trying not to directly become a parrot over here!

I admit that some experiences I have had post-age ten would make it challenging to re-watch Nikki.  I struggle with the dogs on Sea of Thieves making distressed calls when you fire a ranged weapon.  I don't feel any need to exclusively avoid using the dog cosmetic pet, but I have not dealt with ten plus years of animal-on-animal violence; though, I empathize with Sin - it's rough.  I'm not going into detail with what happened to me, but I will say my struggles are more audio-related triggers than visual.

As for the mentions of completionist gameplay, that is why my first post went over the likelihood of them being part of the snake quest if they follow the trend already existing on Wolvden. (Note I also stated I don't mind them not being part of the quest requests or dropping trophies in battle, I'm willing to compromise)  I can not speak for Lioden, in part because the devs do not want the games to be clones and in part because I haven't played Lioden.
