Please don't introduce humans as battle-able enemies

Posted 2021-07-09 06:59:48

Adding some last suggestions for fun,

I think itd be cool to have a vet encounter that darts your lead and gives them an hp gain or cures an illness if your lead has one. Thatd be cute

I think painting a narritive that humans and wolves can work together and make the world a better place and co exist would be very nice AND realistic (without ignoring the bad)

An encounter of seeing a park ranger cleaning up poacher traps then snopping around the are and finding SCs? Cute and dorsnt deny that bad humans exist but also doesnt ignore the ones trying desperately to help these beautiful creatures.

Barking at tourists and making them drop random items (SCs, crafting items) a funny encounter where no one is harmed and also a realistic encounter

Not only is this sort of thing MORE realistic but it would raise awareness to REAL LIFE efforts to actually SOLVE real life problems concerning wolves and conservation efforts. Violence doesnt add realism it only focuses on a tiny aspect and pessimistic narritive that theres nothing we can do which is false and dangerous.

If this game was about bears then maybe itd make more sense to have human battles. But its not. Its about wolves

(Sorry to post twice)

@flower no worries I didnt get that you were arguing! I was simply going off the information you provided to better state my thoughts like it seems like you intended! Sorry if it came across that i was directing my argument to you soecifically !

That's okay! I may be a bit sensitive today as my dog is sick and I've been fretting over him all day, sorry if I came off as defensive. ^^, I'ma take some time to cool off because I don't want to accidentally be a butt to people.

I do want to say that I like those ideas though. I'm absolutely down for friendly encounters like those, I suggested some (albeit less thought-out) when I found the thread too. It doesn't necessarily have to be combat (though I'm one of the folk who'd prefer a variety including it), but I'd be happy to see encounters with humans in general.

There could be some providing water for animals in summer months, shown releasing rehabilitated animals back to the wild (then when you get a nbw you can include it in the wolf's story!),  maybe someone getting arrested for laying traps, or even just encounters where you have to choose moves like you do in battle to scare away curious/ill-meaning people. (Instead of bite, the command could say bark, or bristle, you know. Ways to posture and make yourself look scary, kind of like you make yourself look fancy to invite wolves into your pack.) Maybe if you can't scare them off and fail the encounter, your lead wolf gets a bit hurt from a rock or stick thrown at them from a frightened human, but if you succeed they run off and you get experience. There are many ways to do this without killing specifically and I say this as someone who doesn't support the intent of the thread.

I feel like including humans has a lot of potential in general, I just happen to disagree that everyone should be denied battle encounters because some people don't want them instead of there being a wider variety of options.

@flower i love your ideas here! I love the idea of the "battle" mechanic being different for humans (maybe closer to the befriending nbws mechanic? Going to the red side would cause a loss of hp and going to the green side would gain you items/exp/sc) itd put a new spin on the currently rather mundane(imo) rng battle mechanic (maybe some strategy involved based on the type of human, like how nbw befriending is based on their personality.)

I also adore the idea of released NBWs maybe these encounters could even result in unique bases and markings that come out of these!! Brought in by other wolf populations from far away (like the story for the raffle studs but in nbw form)

I also hope youre doing alright and your dog recovers well, stay safe ! 💓

I have lost two, maybe three pups in the time I have played, so the trap thing is not something I have come across and was thus unaware of. The backgrounds i know are there, but I can more readily explain those away or avoid them than I can an actual interaction. Sorry if it sounded like I was denying that there were any signs of humans! I know they are there, they are just not as prominent as them being encounters would make them. ^.^  (and you currently don't see humans at all art-wise, as far as I can tell).  I guess I also just assumed the cattle were feral, not tame.

I can roll with the no kill options for human interactions, and a lot of them sound cool!

I hope your dog gets to feeling better, @Flower!

Seconding the idea of released NBWs, it would make for a great change of pace since everything feels a bit bland in the NBW market anyway. You would get some really neat ''release bases'' from it and it would make the interest in befriending spark a bit more, ATM the only valuable wolves would be chaseds, or 4 star or higher NBWs. Regular NBWs would get at least a little value for being released and there are a few freedom based ideas for names for bases that can be imagined (Libertas for freedom, servare which means ''to keep/to save'', a nod to preserving wolves, praesidio which means to protect, another nod to preserving wolves, all names being in Latin, etc!)

I think I am slowly warming up to the idea of humans at least being present... just as long as I am not forced to fight them to get anything good in the game. As long as fighting humans is optional and isn't something you have to do in things like events and getting trophies (I would much rather spook a human and snatch a camera than beat a human to death and take off a hand or something...) I think I would be okay at least with human battles, because then both parties will get a compromise.

Don't worry, Flower, arguments are the part of Game Development. It's okay to be defensive if you want to share your point. Every feedback can be taken into consideration when making decisions about this game so it's worth making a new argument. Everywolf has different views and it's normal to see opposing responses, especially regarding this topic.

I support the notion that humans should NOT be battleable encounters.

Including humans we can fight would be a bad idea because it puts forth the totally absurd notion that human v. wolf is at all a balanced fight. IRL, wolves lose pretty much every fight with a human. It's not an equal battle between savage beast and canny hunter, it's "human shoots wolf, and wolf dies." I don't want Wolvden perpetuating some kind of romantic ideal where a wolf can take out a human.

And on a personal level, I prefer not to think about humans in my wolvden lore. I know that they exist in this world, but I prefer their existence to be implied. I would be fine with some human content, but not if we are fighting them.

Support !!

I actually voted for humans to be added since I thought it would be cool for a split second, but I've since reconsidered.

There's no way to resend my vote officially (that I know of), so my support here will do it unofficially. :)

I wish there was a way to change your vote- it seems like a lot of people clicked it just because it was something new, and then regretted it almost immediately.
