Please don't introduce humans as battle-able enemies

Posted 2021-11-03 09:22:25
my least favorite part of lioden is the human battle encounter

it's an indigenous person poacher

theres white people poachers but theyre less common encounters unless it's the poaching event month

anyways i hate that :•)

The problem with the poacher in Lioden that it is as inaccurate as it can get. It's almost all the time rich white people from Europe/North America who are the real poachers, meanwhile locals are just trying to keep animals out of their homes and lands. /I know because in my country it is literally a hobby for the elite to go to Africa and hunt animals for pictures/  The problem is the fact that the game never truly acknowledges this and puts the blame on indigenous locals instead of the billionaries who keep the whole business alive. It is a much more complex issue than how it is portrayed in media.
Edit: Full support! Sorry if I left out that! As someone who had a rather negative, but not too serious canine encounter in real life, I would rather not want to see any wolf attack a human in this game. I'm somehow on the verge on positive/non-aggressive encounters, but if humans can't be left out, it is still the better option than downright battling them or taking home their parts as tropies. I'd like to keep my own lore as a mixture of fantasy elements in an untouched wilderness, in a completely alternate universe where wolves are the dominant species! On the current event, I really have neutral feelings on how the game features them, you can just simply follow or scare them, and it's okay, but I'd take having them not existing over any time instead.

I support! As of now, I don't imagine aggressive people being too common in the world wolvden has set up, but instead hikers or people vacationing. Which, those people wouldn't mean wolves any harm. And wolves would probably leave them alone. I think humans should be used in a more creative way than battling, that introduces human junk and items to wolves -- like human trinkets for amusement and human food. Maybe some things for crafting. If there were any plans for special human recipes/drops, those could easily be replaced with just regular passing encounters. It would be really refreshing to have a game that incorporates peaceful and kind exchanges between wolves and people.

I imagine the world of wolvden as like, a national park or conservation place.

I know I've responded to their thread before but I'm too lazy to find it to see if this is gunna be any different than the first time lol.

I personally think we could have human poachers as enemies, all too often wolves get shot and killed over nothing, at least in the western United States. As soon as they got taken off the endangered species list, entire packs were massacred because they were near by. Many times there wasn't any evidence of them taking a single livestock. Even with them protected again there are some who look for loopholes because we fear wolves. It's ingrained in the culture of older generations who grew up being taught wolves are the enemy, an undesirable predator out for blood. Which is completely wrong, wolves are as important as beavers, they're a keystone species and the only species in the US that can keep elk in check outside of humans.

I think poacher encounters should be passive for much of the time, like coming across a baited trap that could either shave some health off, or have you turn back because you clearly left the protected area, or possibly with you destroying and taking the bait in the form of a meat chunk if its not poisoned and if it is, a chance at gaining a scrap of metal for crafting or nothing at all.
Then, for encountering a human poacher, it should be extremely rare (most people wouldn't actually hunt a wolf thank to them being protected but an idiot might try to illegally shoot a buck deer for antlers, it's happened near where I live a few times) and it should be difficult should the player engaged in battle, humans have guns and knives after all. But it should NOT have a chance to drop any meat or body parts but instead maybe bits of cloth that act as entertainment if there must be a drop like a trophy.

All other human encounters should either be neutral or positive and be passive. For example you see some strange humans watching you before you feel a sharp sting and pass out. When you wake up you could have A.) a bit of health restored, B.) become immune to disease for a roll over or two, or C.) the rare chance of gaining a tracking collar decor.

i honestly don't like the idea of this. something about adding humans rubs me the wrong way. it would be different if they had more positive things ? i have no idea where I'm going with this.

it's 1:30am and I'm too tired to read the whole original post, but personally I'm happy with the lack of humans in the game and wouldn't be too excited to see humans added, as opponents or not

yea I mean it's funny for hunts in lioden since lions are known to be man eaters but since wolves just don't do that not the best idea. In lioden it's always the left foot they bring back... bit of a running joke but wolves do not eat humans so I'd leave them out of this game since wolves instinctively go out of their way just to avoid humans. Lions have no such reservations.
