After your account has 12 rollovers there is a quest that teaches you about it. Then you'll notice that your hunting party and your herbalist can "Include Apprentice."

Finally got to train my first apprentice! is there anyone I can ask for some food? I went on my hunts but feel pitifully short on food

also any tips on getting amuesment items is appreciated... I am really struggling to get resources, and I'm exploring as often as I can and hunting 2-3xs per rollover 		MoonyChiels

As for entertainment, it can be found through certain encounters while exploring.
The Wiki page has some info: link
Digging for acorns/bones and getting feathers and owl talons from following the raven are some of the most common events.
Sometimes you'll get an item from battle that can be used for entertainment, as well as from Legendary fishing creatures. 		Amanda

Based on some user data, these finding were compiled. I don't know if they're accurate, but might be worth considering.

Summary of findings so far:
Desert is best for finding attack encounters
Desert is best for healing/finding healing salves
Prairie is best for finding amusement items
Deciduous Forest is best for finding herbs
Coniferous Forest is best for finding food items (barely beats Tundra)
Tundra and Prairie are best for finding den materials
Deciduous Forest is best for collecting recipes
Prairie is best for replenishing energy
Tundra is best for replenishing hunger
Coniferous Forest is best for collecting SC
Taiga is best for increasing stats (excluding ordinary attacking) 		Amanda
