Finding & Using Recipes Finding Recipes
Crafting recipes can be found in a variety of different ways. However, they are quite rare!
Some recipes can be found randomly while exploring. In certain encounters, selecting the right option or interacting with the encounter in general has a very small chance of dropping a certain recipe depending on the type of encounter.
Recipes can also be found through battling. They can be dropped in the place of trophies, meaning you must follow trophy guidelines to find them. Your lead wolf must be at least level 10 and your opponent must be level 5 or higher. Recipes will only drop from certain opponents, and some opponents only drop certain recipes.
Foraging with your herbalist can also drop recipes on rare occasions. There are no requirements for this to happen -- your herbalist will sometimes bring back a recipe when you complete their foraging trip.
Similarly to foraging, rescouting with your scout also has the chance to bring back a recipe, also with no requirements.
This guide only lists the general type of explore encounter from which recipes can be found. For more specific details about which encounters drop recipes, check out our [explore encounter list]!

Using Recipes
In order to learn a recipe, you must find the item in your hoard and then click 'Learn Recipe'.
Learning a recipe from your hoard.
After this, the recipe will appear in the Crafting tab of your hoard. You only need to learn the recipe once, and never have to relearn it after crafting with it.

Crafting an item requires a certain amount of materials to be in your hoard. Clicking "Craft" will take the required items out of your hoard and put the newly crafted item in your hoard.
Any item which is usually used as for amusement or food cannot be used in a crafting recipe. Instead, you must use a Remnant of the item, explained below. Items which are not usually used for amusement or food, such as den materials or herbs, will not require remnants to be used in crafting. We do not currently have an option to craft using the actual item -- Remnants are required.
Remnants
Remnants are items that are used for crafting. You can obtain them after fully using an amusement or food item that is currently in a crafting recipe. For example, using all 5 uses of a Bone will give you one Remnant: Bone. However, using all 6 uses of a Bighorn Skull, which is not used for crafting at the moment, will not give you any remnant.
Remnants cannot be used or food or amusement and are saved purely for crafting.
An example of a Remnant
If you are unsure whether or not an item will drop a Remnant, you can check the item in your hoard or in the [Item Catalogue]. On items that drop Remnants, a blue banner will be visible on the item page. If the item does not have this blue banner, it will not drop a Remnant when used up.

Shredding
If you do not want to use a food or amusement item, or you do not have enough wolves to, you have the option to Shred an item to instantly turn it into a Remnant.
You can access the Shredding menu from your [Hoard], on the Shredding tab.
Shredding will give you both a Remnant of an item, as well as an equivalent use Meat Scraps or Amusement Scraps. These items are the scraps left from a carcass or toy, and can still be used to feed and play with your wolves.

You can only shred items which would drop a Remnant. If the item doesn't drop a Remnant, it will not show up in the list to be shredded.
