Discussion: Feeding & Care Changes

Posted 2021-09-10 14:31:43 (edited)
I'll be honest when I say I'm not the hugest fan of this suggestion. My first issue lies with calling it "processing". It makes me think of processed, fake food and factories which is definitely not the feel I want when feeding my wolves. Perhaps calling it something like "preparing"/"prepare" would be better.

My second issue is with the whole "processing" and "toy" idea itself. Feeding my wolves one generic item (even if its technically come from different carcasses) and playing with a generic "toy", in my opinion, is a downgrade. It's lifeless. This game prides itself on being fairly realistic, but taking away the option to feed from carcasses and instead generic meat, would seem very weird. The same could be said about the toy idea. Having the wolves play with a single, all-encompassing toy instead of an actual item takes away some of the immersion the game has going for it.

For the processing idea, I think making it optional, similar to the scavenging option, would be much better.

Food Storage and Toy Bin Concept

I'd like to suggest (and I'll make a proper thread for it in the development suggestion's forum for more eyes to see) a Food Storage and Toy Bin tab that would be placed beside and act similarly to the buried tab. The Food Storage tab would be where you put the carcasses you'd like to feed your wolves. The Toy Bin tab would be where you put the toys you'd like to use for play. This way you can separate the food and toys you'd like to use on your wolves with the food and toys you'd like to keep. There would be a "Feed" and a "Play" button some place in each respective tab that when clicked would feed and play with all of your wolves. With this idea, you are still keeping wanted items and items for use separate while also conveniently caring for your wolves in a timely manner. You are still feeding your wolves regular carcasses and playing with amusement items to keep the immersion in effect and staying clear of the generic, factory feel of the current processing idea while implementing a more time efficient care mechanic.

For the paid FAPA, at each rollover your wolves would be fed and played with automatically with the food and amusement items being pulled from the Food Storage and Toy Bin tabs. The individual feed and play option would still exist, too. The food and toys in those drop downs would also only be pulled from the Food and Toy tabs.

(To fix the issue with folks who like to keep 1 use items for crafting, I'd suggest making crafting uses based instead of item number based. I can't really think of another idea besides a "Keep 1 use" check box, but then moving everything back into the hoard seems time consuming.)

I just want us to have the same playing option as Lioden. Why must we use an amusement item ALL the time to play with pups? Why can't we just get a 'Tussle' as a free play option that could be used once for each wolf in a rollover?

I'm very happy to hear that this will be streamlined, and the ideal seems promising.

I've always thought that it would just be nice if you could click on a single carcass— say a small doe— and when you hit consume it would apply all desired consumptions to a selection of wolves, or just apply it to the wolves at the top of your list or in a certain den. Like you'd hit one button and those 8 uses of the small doe would be spread out across several wolves, rather than requiring several button clicks  for each wolf that consumes the carcass.

The idea proposed in this forum post seems very worthwhile and I'm excited to see what yall wind up doing. I've had over 80 wolves in my pack for a long time now (not including pups and adols) and feeding them all one by one can be exhausting. (Which is a self-created issue, but even feeding 30 wolves daily, one click at a time, can become annoying after enough time)

I like this idea! I am slightly confused though, if we don't already have FAPA, do we HAVE to process carcasses to use them? Or am I just misunderstanding what was written? (totally possibly lol)

I also support Remmie's idea for Food/Toy Bin, and Weavrr's for a "Tussle" option.

I like the idea that Remmie offered, with the toy and food bin!

But also wouldn't be against the idea brought up. Something like this would actually encourage me to buy FAPA, as for now as it is, the struggle of burying all amusement items I don't wanna be used is just too much. Whatever makes the game play more pleasurable and easier, instead of a struggle!

I am like PiffleLovesBaseball, I like to click through each of my wolves to feed them (I play through the hoard because it is faster). That way I see them, get to enjoy them and their designs. I also can feed the oldest food easiest this way as well. So, I don't want that to be removed as an option. I have kept my pack a certain size because of care requirements, but I can still probably click through my feeding and playing in 10 or less minutes, so for me it isn't really tedious.

I understand that some would like an easier method of feeding and playing, but I would like the current way of doing things to still be an option.

On the changes suggested, I too was wondering if converting all the food to chunks would not be more tedious, and whether or not the chunks would still be fed in 'expiring soonest' order? I have never used FAPA, so I am not 100% clear on the mechanics of it.

i generally like all the proposed ideas!! having to go through so many different stacks is absurdly annoying and having a way to just feed from one stack of food would be awesome. i also LOVE the idea of being able to feed wolves only from certain caves. being able to prioritize which wolves to feed would be great.

My real hesitance is on the toy bin idea. I like to horde 1 use toys for crafting, because it doesn't matter how many uses a feather has in order to craft it. So why not use what you can for amusement and save the last bit?

The food bin sounds great though!

@lobosong

for my actual post on this food storage and toy bin idea (seperate from this thread) I had suggested to make crafting use base instead of item based or having a "Keep 1 use" check off box.

Ill add this to the post here too :3
