Discussion: Feeding & Care Changes

Things that other users have previously mentioned here — feed from stack, feed by cave/group, etc — sound far more efficient and appealing. Having folders/more organization options in the hoard would also be more effective. I've paid for plenty of GC in my time here but have never bought FAPA because I like having more control over what is fed and used for amusement; particularly keeping one use left on items like feathers to create nesting material and on other items for crafting purposes. Also agree with those that mentioned increasing hunting team size or being able to send out multiple teams at once being a more important issue to be addressed. I did like the idea of random drops from carcasses such as crafting items, a rare chance at a trophy drop, etc. I think this could be a fun addition on its own.. while I dislike the "processing" aspect, I can see there being something where a "Huntmaster" wolf is in charge of skinning carcasses and collecting bones/teeth for (in lore) crafting, with this activity having a rare chance to drop an actual in game item or recipe. The Huntmaster could be assigned other duties lore wise and in game, such as being in charge of overseeing the pack's food supply in general, and being a boss, so to speak, of the hunting teams. Someone more creative than me could probably flesh this idea out a bit more and make it something that is a useful pack role to assign a wolf to.. which more jobs for our wolves to do is something desperately needed. |

As much as I love having more jobs for wolves to do, I hesitate with tying this system to a in-game asset. This is not only a general quality-of-life improvement, but also an accessibility improvement. The old, long thread that originally brought the issue to the light was specifically targeted at improving game accessibility for chronically ill and otherwise disabled players, who may not have the energy to spend individually feeding every wolf. Tying an accessibility improvement to an in-game milestone is strange. Wolf-slots may not be a scarce resource in late/mid-game, but they very much are in early-game. In addition, if the "Huntmaster" uses energy to break down carcusses, then you are further limiting the system. It would be pretty strange for the role not to use energy, since all current roles use energy in some way. That being said, you don't have that many wolves in early-game, so processing + feeding may be the same amount of work as just, individually feeling 5 wolves. You still have the issue of energy, however. You could just cap the "Huntmaster"'s energy at 50% and leave it at that. However, that's a fairly arbitrary use of energy. It's not like Pupsitters, who are constantly working - there is a clear game event where a "Huntmaster" is doing their job. I'm not saying it's a bad or impossable idea. But I do have some concerns. |

Aside from that I do have a few functionality concerns with the process. First and probably my biggest gripe: "Carcass and Amusement items would lose their ability to be fed/played with, so that things like FAPA would no longer drain your Acorns - everything would need to be processed by hand selection." So instead of being able to use our items as they are we are forced to go through with a whole extra step of processing the items one by one before they can be used. This is just adding more time to an already time consuming process if I don't have FAPA and is adding time to something that's supposed to be instant and painless if I do have FAPA. Instead I propose something that I saw suggested before - which is the ability to blacklist certain items so that they cannot be used in FAPA and will warrant a warning (or maybe even be unable to be fed) through the hoard or den pages. The player would have a dropdown list of food and another list of amusement items that they can access and, when clicked, the items will be highlighted in red and will become blacklisted. They could be re-whitelisted via clicking them again. Perhaps this list could have a checkbox which simply blacklists all items except those who were processed so your system may still be used as planned. The idea of a passive FAPA is also nice but yields it's own problems, such as players having wolves they wouldn't normally want cared for to be cared for. I feel like, again, the ability to blacklist certain dens or wolves would make this feature more desirable for certain players. Additional filters I'd also like to see would be the ability to make FAPA prioritize wolves by how hungry/bored they are (Lowest cared for first), their role, age, prioritizing puppies/mothers, ect. without you having to use separate dens and, again, do the work of sorting the wolves yourself. |

As a new player, I feel like I'm fighting a losing battle to keep my wolves fed, they take so much hunger at rollover I can't afford to keep my wolves, I just dropped 500 pinecones on trying to get back 5 of my wolves and now they've left again because I had to get a new hunter. It's getting ridiculous, I can't afford to buy enough food off the trading center because the prices are all high and I have to use my pinecones to get my wolves back, and I can't check back every hour to maybe get a carcass. Currently I feel the system is punishing to new players and it's scaring them away, I've told my sister to wait until a lunar event to join, because otherwise she'll find it hard to keep her wolves, and now I've told her to wait till this update I'm thankful for the quest rework because now getting pinecones isn't as hard as it used to be, so getting back my wolves and affording food isn't as hard as it was, but it's still fighting a losing battle. I think this is a much needed update for both new and old players. edit: I agree so, so much with what 🦊Trolljan is saying, it's so hard to get food and toys, and I always don't have enough of one. |

Regardless tho I would rather the extra hunting tbh. I've never had an issue caring for my wolves but I have the ability to check in multiple times a day, I almost always max out at least one of my three hung parties a day. But for those who can only check in one or two times a day it is very discouraging. The few wolves you have either starve or as a newbie you have to buy food and figure out what you're doing Without food you can't expand your pack, if no one can get more wolves then wolves don't sell, and that's the issue we are at now. We really need something to make it more encouraging to not only care for your pack but to make it worthwhile to expand your pack instead of punishing you if you have many wolves you find yourself unable to feed |

It was really disappointing finding out that food and (I think) amusement stacks don't work like they did on Lioden. I was fully expecting being able to feed from a stack instead of having to select one carcass at a time to feed from. This feature alone would make feeding and playing a million times faster. *Another idea is when you're on the feeding page selecting which wolves to feed, I wonder if it's possible to select multiple wolves at once? It sorta happened for a split second when I was feeding before it corrected itself which is where I got the idea. Very similar to selling multiple items at once to the raccoon. *what about auto-feeding? An option where you allow wolves to eat a certain amount directly from your hoard. Either a limited or paid feature, just spit balling. I don't like the term "processing" and I don't support it being the sole way to feed. I believe we will ALWAYS need multiple, different ways to feed. Any features being added to hoard or feeding/playing that affect the hoard should be 100% optional while our current methods (simple feeding from hoard and then on the wolf's page) stay the same (welcoming needed changes and additions ofc). Part of a role playing game is to be able to have different ways to go about things, and I think it's just as important that it extends beyond breeding and exploring. IMHO there should rarely ever be a time where you're not allowed to make one of multiple choices. We all go by different criteria when feeding and playing so I think it's important that no one is forced to feed and play one way. |

It would be sooo much easier to just have 1 stack of meat for my woofers Edit: I also think we need more hunting parties and scouts. I can't keep up. I have no way to gain more territory bc my scouts are always out looking for amusement items, and my hunting party doesn't even always get prey! |
