Discussion: Clans

Oh man I'm loving all the ideas here, especially the ones on wolvden's list. I think that having a lot of customizable options (more pages, multiple hoards, roles, etc.) would be really great since the more things you can customize, the more people will be happy. Being able to pick and choose different features when building your clan would be amazing.

Clan boss fights sound like a lot of fun!

For the most part, I'm neutral on the idea of clans. As a social space, I don't think clans are necessary - they don't really do anything you can't already do in a chatter topic. And I definitely wouldn't want activity requirements and clan fees; that just sounds like a hassle to keep up with. But clan boss fights (maybe also clan dungeons?) would get me excited and wanting to join.

Edit: In light of @Keycatt's thoughts in the post below mine: If there are clan boss fights/dungeons, I think it should be possible/allowed to have a one-person clan and do all the stuff yourself, if you'd like. It would take longer, but solo play would still be possible.

All the things listed sounds very neat! I'm practically a fan of stud discounts, although I want to be able to decide (1) how much of a discount is given, and be able to change that amount for each clan you are in.

A few people have suggested some kind of daily boss fight or clan hunt. I don't think this is a good idea. I don't want the game to give out special, new items or opportunities to gain resources/stats just for players in clans.  It would disadvantage players who don't want to join clans, and encourage people to join as many clans as possible, even if they don't feel any social connection to it.  Even if you were only allowed to participate in one clans "boss hunt/fight" a day, it would still indirectly punish players who want to go it alone.  A good comparison would if there was a chance to get a random amount of SB for posting on the forum. The forum is not supposed to be a direct game mechanic, it's just social. Same thing with clans.

I would prefer if boss fights/hunts weren't implemented, but, if a lot of people wanted this feature, I'll suggest a compromise. Make clan boss fights something a clan had to pay for. For example, it would be, say 2000 SB to start a clan-wide hunt, where food or other resources could be found by working together with your clan members. Preferably, this cost would be fairly high and scale with number of clan members.  This way, the game isn't giving "free" resources to clans, but people still have the option to hunt and fight together with their clan.

Sounds like something from the days of old browser-game set-ups like Neopets, haha. Basically clubs you make for friends or fans, right? I feel like the Wolvden community is all so cliqueish as it is-- might as well make something onsite so that solo members like me can at least find where everyone is gathering and see about getting in somewhere. (Cause right now it's all serverrs on Discord, for instance)

Be nice to have some game mechanics implemented somehow. Like maybe events where clans have to come together to take down a giant beast or something. But would that mean clans then have to be player capped? Hmm. There's a lot of possibilities.

Here's my one idea that would tickle my creative bone: Clan leaders are able to draw or commission a custom item that all clan members are able to obtain when joining the clan and can be placed on their lead wolf if they want to show off their clan pride! This item is only available for clan members to purchase, and is perhaps discounted the 5 gold that the site takes so everyone has the opportunity to use it.

I think that would be rad!

Adding something like a clan quest would be fun, I think. All the members of the clan would contribute to the completion of the quest, and everyone who did so would receive the quest rewards.
Although, I have to add that I am a solitary player. There is a chance that regardless of what features are included, it may not be enough to warrant paying a fee, for me and any others like myself. Especially if there were mandatory participation as well.
I never joined a clan in Lioden, since I didn't like how they were at all on there.

Gods I really like the idea of having clans, and I really hope such a feature is implemented within Wolvden :D

i think a perfect name alternative to clans would be tribes!

definition of tribes:
-"a social division in a traditional society consisting of families or communities linked by social, economic, religious, or blood ties, with a common culture and dialect, typically having a recognized leader."
(this word does not originate or is exclusive to minorities, it comes from rome politics i think?)

[i also like alliances, and can see why some people might not like the term tribe be used here, i just thought it fit particularly well]

I think a lot of the ideas listed here by players are nice. I am very on board with those listed in the original post.

My only suggestions currently are for the naming, and my opinion is they should be called a Guild, League, Union, or even Alliance sounds alright.

I don't think this was mentioned but what about a potential to pairbond between packs in a clan? Maybe limit it to being able to have one or two wolves be able to make a pairbond outside of your pack within your clan?
