1.Markiev 3. Max Atlas (Ref) 2. Feihren Cusakyn 4. Diesel 5. Wrenzer 2. Which piece is your favorite all together and why? Markiev! I love the mixture of subtle and pronounced swirls that you coordinated with their markings. The white being more subtle vs the orange/gold being more pronounced really adds something to it! It feels like there's more personality in it. 3. What do you like most about the style presented in these? It's the swirls for me, honestly! It adds a unique texture and feel to all of them! Your color work is also really bold and engaging to look at. 4. What would you change/want to see done differently? The swirls on Feihren Cusakyn take away from the character's design, imo, because they contrast a bit too much with their colors. There's also so many textures/colors layered on top of each other that it's hard for my eye to focus, and it makes an odd effect, especially on the forehead and at the neck scruff. 5. What base pose would you be interested in seeing? I'd love to see something happy-go-lucky ! |

Thanks so much for filling out the survey! I'll mark you down for the discount and send you 100 Sb since you were the first. If you wouldnt mind, would you be willing to answer some follow up questions? I'll take an additional 1 GC off your price! Also you'll be glad to know I'm in the process of figuring out a more cheerful base! I just haven't gotten any sketches that I've been satisfied yet. Do you prefer this version of the Feihren piece over the other one? ("final" one for reference) I also had similar feelings to you on the cluttered-ness of the final version, but wasn't sure if it was in my head, so this was really helpful. I always have trouble removing details after I've created them. I'm a bit of a hoarder! I also had a similar confliction while making the Markiev piece. This was the original markiev: vs the one I stuck with-I really liked the swirls on the head and couldn't let go, but Im still torn between which I prefer. Which version of the Markiev do you prefer? |

I think what's really hard for me to pick which I prefer in either pair is the feeling of less-than-done of the simpler ones, but the feeling of overly-done on the more complex ones. For example, this part of Feihren is what throws me off. I ADORE the swirls and the shading/feather-like markings, but together it becomes too much for my eyes to handle. The shapes and lines are going in different directions which makes my eyes confused as to which it should follow. This part of Feihren doesn't have that problem because it's just the swirls which are adding texture - and I super adore it! Even the two different colored swirls at the bottom right work because it's the "same" texture of organic shapes and curves. With Markiev's piece, the added complexity is all one color so it doesn't feel so confusing for the eye. Could it have been more simple? Sure, but I don't see a reason to push for one way or the other on this part of Markiev's piece. This part of Markiev's piece, however, is a little muddy to decipher visually because of both the difference in color and the difference in shape language. The darker color is more organic, almost entirely curves. Meanwhile, the lighter color, though still organic in places, has more straight lines and inorganic sections. It, quite literally, cuts through the organic, darker color beneath it and once again calls the eyes to follow different lines and shape language at the same time. On the more simple piece for Markiev, this section still stands out to me because of the different shape language than the details surrounding it. Comparatively, it feels empty and a little strange just because these colors are so different from the ones right above it. Personally, I think the swirls would have looked better here than this design, both for the unity in the type of lines - organic - and the unity in the color. Hope that block o' text makes sense! I figured some pictures would help point out what I was talking about. |

I alwas really struggling with the line between "unfinished" and "overdone". As far as the simpler pieces go I would get through them and then think "it's missing something" and then try to fix it by adding only to have done too much. I would flip layers on and off seemingly endlessly to try and figure out which is better, but instead of adding a whole new layer of effect I should probably try to focus on getting the right balance in the first layer. Of course that's something that will hopefully come with practice and experience with this style. Again thank you so much for your input! Since you took the time out to write such a detailed helpful explaination I'm going to take 5 GC off your price instead of the original 2 <3 and ill try to incorporate this into future pieces! |
