Posting is Welcome c:

Basics

Optional Werewolf Lore - The pack can be read with the additional flavor of them being werewolves, but will work just fine without it. Optional Werewolf Lore will be labeled with [OWL] In front of it

Werewolves in this context are more like shapeshifters than werewolves. They don’t need the full moon to change forms but they are their most powerful during the full moon. Their werewolf shapes can be bipedal or quadrupedal depending on their bloodline. Older bloodlines have a quadrupedal form but newer generations are more bipedal forms.

Werewolves can be born or changed, but new werewolves can only be changed during a full moon and only by those who have older bloodlines.

Founding

The Lost Nightwalkers are a nocturnal pack founded by Stitches and her childhood sweetheart, Mumble. They came from different packs that were allied with each other. As the cold season approached and prey grew scarce, a lot of the younger wolves from both packs were choosing to leave their pack to ease the strain of resources winter would bring. Among those were Stitches and Mumble, who chose to travel towards the mountains to make their home closer to the sky.

They settled in a sheltered spot in the valley, in one of the smaller caves littering the roots of the mountain. As winter passed, they found themselves reluctant to leave, so they decided to start a pack. Although the little shelter they used for the winter served them well, there wasn’t a lot of room to expand.

The name came from a joke the two shared one day, since they couldn’t decide where on or around the mountain they wanted to set up for the winter. They walked all over and had many spots chosen, but ultimately they weren’t able to choose one, which led to their practicing of rotating their camps for whenever it suited their needs.

Hierarchy

The pack is led by a dominant pair called the Lunar and Crescent Guides. They will always be a mated pair but the Lunar Guide has the ultimate authority. Star Council is Second under the leading pair. Herbalists and their Watchers are next up. Scent Stalkers and Quest Seekers come next in that order. Watchers follow after them. After the Watchers, the Little Steps (though the New Moons take priority) and then Shadow Steps. Singers come last in the hierarchy.

When it comes to eating order, the youngest always eats first regardless if it’s in the pack or during a Hunt. Guides will see to it that their pack is fed first before eating. Similarly, Stars will see to it that those in their division are fed first before they eat themselves.

Food Hierarchy goes like this: Little Steps || Cubs, Watchers || Learners, Herbalists || Medics, Scent Stalkers || Trackers, Shadow Steps || Cubsitters, Quest Seekers || Guardians, Singers || Retired, Crescent Guide || Pack Leader + Crescent Guide || Second in Command.

[OWL] Rather than having an eating order, rations are divided up among the pack if food is scarce. The youngest get the largest portions, but the

Territory + Camp

They have an established territory but oftentimes roam all over it. They cycle through different areas to allow time for herbs to grow back and prey to return. They have no set pattern, so their choice is based on where they were last and what the season may look like.

Camp is always put in a place that is sheltered from the elements and close to a water source of some kind. At the center of the camp will be their young and the Herbalists. Other classes are peppered around but they all encircle the Little Steps, Watchers and Herbalists. The outer ring is often populated by their strongest and sometimes include the Lunar or Crescent Guide if the situation demands it.

Both Quest Seekers and Scent Stalkers team up to rotate a guard during the day and night. They work in three sets of pairs which can be in combination of Scent||Quest, Quest||Quest, but never Scent||Scent.

Hunts are frequently set out to maintain their territory, so it’s very rare to have the entire pack together at one palace at any given time. The pack will always retain at least two Scent Stalkers with their pack at any given moment though.

[OWL] The pack can live in cabins, lodges in the wilderness or even in the town a few miles from the foot of the mountain and the even smaller town in the valley. They will rotate where they stay since their territory not only encompasses the town, the valley and surrounding mountains, but the nearby forests and grasslands too. More often than not though, they live in the small valley town nestled in between their mountains where the majority population is made up of their pack.

Currently Lodgings & Territory:

The Lost Nightwalkers are still a small pack, so their territory is limited to just the valley for now.

Alliances/Relations

Currently none! PM me if you want to set up relations with The Lost Nightwalkers. They’re currently up for anything including (but not limited to) Alliances, Conflicts, Individual Interpack Relations (so relationships between individual members), Interpack Cubs (tho a lot of discussion would have to happen here lol).

Misc.

  • Both Lunar and Crescent Guides are competent in all other fields (hunting, herbalism, and even cubsitting). The purpose of this is so that they will be able to fill in for the pack in case they are lacking for whatever reason.

  • When it comes to naming, the cubs will either get a part from their mother, father or both.

  • New wolves are given only one name upon joining.

Roles: [Wolf Terms||Werewolf Terms]

  • Lunar Guide|| Pack Leader

    • Lunar Guide can be any gender and is typically passed down from parents to cubs. There can only be one and they act as the ruling authority over the pack and will then have the last say in decisions.

    • They’re also in charge of keeping the peace of the pack as well as ensuring the pack safety.

    • Is always a cub from the last Lunar Guide’s litter[s] unless there are special circumstances surrounding it.

    • They can be challenged for their position but it has to be publicly done before the council or at least 2 members of it present or it won’t be considered valid.

  • Crescent Guide || Second in Command

    • The Crescent Guide are the mates of the Lunar Guide. They share the same responsibilities of the Lunar guide but will always defer to the Lunar Guide.

  • New Moons || Heirs

    • The cubs of the leading pair. On top of being raised to take over the pack, they also have to take lessons from all the other classes so that they’re knowledgeable on all fronts.

    • They often choose to specialize in one class though.

    • They hold no actual power or authority unless earned through their class or inheriting the Lunar Guide title. The position is less one of authority and more that of importance.

    • These cubs are often the first to eat amongst the cubs and are more attentively looked after. However, once they become Watchers, their place in the eating order follows that of the class they choose to specialize in.

    • Succession for the Lunar Guide doesn’t go to the oldest, but the most competent.

  • Quest Seekers || Guardians

    • Quest Seekers are the protection force of this pack. They not only guard the camp but are sent out on extended Hunts to the borders of their territory to maintain those lines. They’re also sent on Hunts frequently throughout the territory to make sure that threats haven’t moved into areas that haven’t been frequented lately by the pack.

    • They’re usually made up of the strongest and fastest members of the pack and can be split up into two subdivisions: Brawlers and Sprinters

      • Brawlers are the fighters. They’re trained to be ferocious fighters since their apprenticeship

      • Sprinters are the scouts and messengers of the group. They’re the quickest and the most silent, usually sent out ahead to look for danger or to deliver messages when howling is too dangerous.

    • Majors stats: STR + AGI

  • Scent Stalkers ||  Trackers

    • A Scent Stalker’s job is to be a tracker. From a young age, they’re taught to recognise every scent, sound and tracks of the creatures in their territory and beyond. They’re a very selective group and only take Watchers with the keenest senses and are one of the most precious individuals of the pack since there are so few of them.  Usually Quest Seekers outnumber them 3:1. [my own cap to keep my pack manageable]

    • Major Stats: WIS + SMA

  • Little Steps || Cubs

    • The youngest of the pack and the most valuable. They are always the first to be fed along with the Watchers. Once weaned, they’re raised communally in  daycare like systems during the stay when their parents are busy.

  • Shadow Steps || Cubsitters

    • Shadow Steps ate the ones who guard and protect the pack’s young. There are no requirements for this position but once a wolf shows interest, they are put through training to make sure that they are fully prepared for the sheer chaotic energy that just a few Little Steps can carry.

    • During a situation where there is a threat in their camp, Shadow Steps will take their charges as far away from the conflict as they can. Each Shadow Step is in charge of their own stampede and rather than keep all their cubs in one place, they’re encouraged to take their own stampede off in a different direction than others to ensure survival of their cubs.

  • Watchers || Apprentices

    • Senior Watcher || Senior Apprentice

    • Watchers are the young learners of the pack. They’re often taught in groups overseen by one or two mentors. These groups aren’t always the same and can fluctuate.

    • The more selective classes, such as the Herbalists and the Scent Stalkers, are the only ones that take one or two Watchers who are taught by a whole group of mentors. Shadow Stalkers and Quest Seekers often have joint classes in order to promote synergy and teamwork between the two.

    • Watchers don’t age out of the roll, they can only graduate. The graduation process is different for each class.

  • Herbalist || Medics

    • Herbalists work in an apothecary. There can only be two herbalists at any given time. Each Herbalist can have one Watcher, but they won’t inherit that title until one of the current Herbalists steps down.

    • During a move, if the Herbalists have too many herbs to pack themselves, other members of the pack will come and help them. Usually the older Watchers are tasked with this.

  • Singers || Retired

    • Singers are the oldest of the pack. After retiring from the working positions of the pack, they’re often left with a lot of time to themselves. They’re the ones who pass down the stories from past generations to the younger ones. It’s not a requirement that they do though.

Pack Terms:

  • A Stampede

    • A group of cubs

  • Council

    • Shortened name for Star Council

  • Guides

    • Another way to say leader. Can be in reference to the pack leader or class leader (though if referring to a class leader, Star would be used instead)

  • Guiding Star || Current Head

    • The representative for their class. There can only be one Guiding Star per class at any given time and are always the most experienced or the most talented of their class. They give feedback to the leader about the status of their sect’s work during the Star Council

    • They have authority over the class that they lead and are prohibited from meddling in the affairs of another Star’s division.

    • They can work independently or collaboratively with each other and even the Lunar and Crescent Guides, but any big decisions are ultimately  left for the Lunar and Crescent Guides to settle.

    • Undermining the authority of the two will lead to punishments of varying degree depending on the severity of the offense.

  • Hunts

    • Like an adventure of sorts. They have a goal that they’re set out to do: Hunting a specific prey or taking out a threat that has been lurking around. They can even be described as a small patrol. If the Herbalist needs herbs that are running short in their territory, a Hunt can also be organised as protection for them. Hunts are made up of teams that usually have at least one Scent Stalker.

    • Hunts vs Prey Hunts

      • The only difference is that Prey Hunts go out with the intention to bring back food for the pack. Their team formation is made up of 2-3 Scent Stalkers and only have 1-2 hunts happening simultaneously.

  • Questers

    • Shortened name for Quest Seekers

  • Shadows

    • Shortened name for Shadow Steps

  • Senior Watcher || Senior Apprentice

    • The head learner who either is the most proficient in their studies or the most experienced. They change out everytime the last Senior Watcher has graduated.

    • They help coordinate Watchers like organising Young Hunts

  • Stalkers

    • Shortened name for Scent Stalkers

  • Star Council || Council

    • A meeting of all the Star Guides and the Lunar Guide to discuss pack matters.

  • Star[s]

    • Shortened name for the head[s] of classes

  • Steps

    • Shortened name for Little Steps

  • Young Hunts

    • Mock Hunts that Watchers go on within running distance of the camp. Usually it’s to find an item hidden by the Senior Watcher or whoever else is overseeing the event. These Young Hunts happen once every month on the full moon. Many of them can happen simultaneously or have more than one item being searched for. Other challenges may include, but are not limited to, avoiding traps set by the Guiding Stars, spars with senior pack members, and babysitting.

Character Into: Stitches

Name: Stitches

Meaning: Named after the ticking on her fur

Role: Lunar Guide

Some history:

She left her family pack during winter and traveled with Mumble to the mountains. It took some convincing for her to persuade him, but ultimately she was able to convince him that it was a good idea considering they were both healthy and strong enough to survive into spring. Of course, this then led her to bee-line to the mountains.

Why? There are two answers for that question. If it was anyone else asking her, she would say that it would bring them closer to the sky. If she was asked by Mumble, she would say because she was told that the heavy snow in the mountains would make surviving the winter more difficult. She interpreted this as less competition for resources if others were avoiding the mountain (and as a challenge to which she said “Hold my berry juice”).

Originally they were just going to wait out the winter near the mountains but they ended up establishing a pack in the valley.

Personality blurb: Stitches as a creature of action, she likes to take risks just to see what would happen. In some instances, she could even be considered rash in her decision making, but she’ll never take a gamble when lives other than her own are at risk. She’s a reactionary force though, so when faced with split second decisions, she will always act on her first instinct.

Relationships:

  • Mumble - Her childhood sweetheart and 90% of her impulse control. He’s a balancing force to her exuberant energy. She trusts him implicitly.

  • Stitched Quill - Her first born son. She adores him and his sister and dotes on them often to an almost embarrassing degree (absolutely shameless really)

  • Mumbling Plume - Her first daughter. Admittedly, she dotes on her more than Quill, but that’s only because she’s sure that Plume needs a little more doting because of her cranky personality. She spends more time coaxing smiles out of her daughter than anything.

Character Intro: Mumble

Name: Mumble

Meaning: Named after his habit of thinking out loud

Role: Crescent Guide || Scent Stalker

Some history:

He came from a pack that was allied with Stitches' pack. Come winter, when a good number of the youth from his pack were starting to leave, Stitches approached him with the idea of leaving as well. She saw how winter was affecting their packs, there simply wasn’t enough food and herbs to go around, and proposed the idea of leaving together. He was hesitant at first, since he felt that because of his expertise as a hunter, he would have been able to serve his pack better by staying than just leaving.

In the end, he was convinced by Stitches to leave and come back after the winter. That plan flew out the window when Stitches suddenly announced her pregnancy one day in early spring, and they decided to just simply set up roots where they were rather than traveling.

Personality blurb: Mumble is the more serious of the two leads. He’s more paced and thorough that Stitches tends to be. He dislikes making decisions on the spot, especially if there are alternative choices to be made. His approach to life is more akin to a leisurely walk, he likes to stop and smell the flowers and bask in the sun. When it comes to arguments and disagreements in the pack, more often than not Mumble is the one that they go to to resolve the issue.

Relationships:

  • Stitches - He had met her at one of the pack gatherings when he was young and was charmed by her passion. While he gets too caught up in his responsibilities, Stitches is the one who pulls him out of it and urges him to take breaks. While he’s indulgent of his mate’s quirks, he does have to be the one who draws the line a lot of the time. He is still not over the incident with the chipmunks back while they were adolescents. Please don’t ask him about it, he might actually cry.

  • Stitched Quill - He indulges his son often, almost as often as Stitches. Quill reminds him a lot of his mate, the two of them both carry the same fire that drives them in life. He’s also just as wary of his son, since he seems to look at his mother and think ‘I bet I can do better”, which in thought isn’t too bad. In action, well, let’s just say Mumble’s heart wasn’t ready for the second coming of the Chipmunk Incident at all.

  • Mumbling Plume - She’s crankier than her brother, but Mumble loves her all the same. He wasn’t sure where her pessimism came from (though he’s still all for any reason at all to blame Root literally anything). He’s often the ear that listens to his daughter’s concerns and gripes. Although he’s out often with his hunts, he tries to talk with her often so she has a place to vent.

  • Root - Root doesn’t say much, but what he doesn’t say is conveyed through his silent attitude alone. Mumble and Root don’t get along with each other because of the polite, silent barbs they trade with each other. While they don’t actively fight, they just simple don’t get along with each other
