Scarce Prey (Wolf RP | Open)

Thank you! And he/him is all good with me, I'll add him into the post with Paleshadow to consolidate things a bit :D))

Paleshadow hauled herself to her paws, looking around groggily and then wincing as she tried to put weight onto her front left leg. She could feel fresh, warm blood oozing through the fur of her shoulder as her wounds reopened. Taking a shuddering breath in and letting it all out again, the injured hunter began to make her way slowly toward where she hoped her pack would be... or, whatever was left of them. At least twice she passed still forms that caused her to grimace, their scents familiar but fading. She had tried to help them in the attack. She had even thrown herself at one of the humans to try and shield a packmate from the blast of his thundering stick, but in vain.

Don't howl just yet. There may be more of them around and you're still out in the open, Paleshadow thought to herself, picking up speed through the pain at the idea of danger lurking.

Eventually she came upon a familiar, fresher scent— Cricket!— that joined up with the scents of Theia and Primrose. Paleshadow set her teeth and kept limping along to find the end of the trail. At one point the scents mingled with that of another young one, Mothvoices. It was sour with the tinge of fresh blood, and the hunter's heart lurched before she realized that all four scent trails led off in the direction of home.

Paleshadow let out a sigh of relief and followed this new trail laboriously all the way to the edge of the Night Wandering camp before mumbling toward the too-small congregation of her packmates, "oh, thank the stars you're all he-" and collapsing into the dust.

Thank you! :D))

Primrose yelped in surprise, spinning in time to see Paleshadow's form crash to the ground. "Paleshadow!" She rushed forward, wincing at the acrid scent of blood and metal.

"Cricket! I think she got hit..." she whined softly, nosing at the she wolf's fur.

Juniper picked Sorrel up, moving him slightly aside. "You stay right here, hear me? I don't want you getting lost or hurt." She poked his side softly before moving over to other hunter's side.

"Should we try move her now or see if she wakes up before anything?" Juniper asked Cricket. Primrose added, "The nursery is cleanest but I can run over to the herbalist den and try clean up!"

"O-"

Mothvoices only turned in time to see Paleshadow collapse onto the ground, and they ran to the fainted wolf with fear.

"..this looks bad,,"

The dark adolescent commented, and, feeling a bit useless as they stood there, woofed, "I'll get you some herbs, Cricket. What… do you use? Or-or I can clean the den… get some water…"

Thorn sighed, banging their forehead against the base of a tree, and bared her teeth to herself.

Come ON, Thorn! You became a Hunter for a reason. Can't you DO what hunters do and provide for your pack?

She thought to herself, digging angrily at the soft ground until she found a half-buried carcass of a squirrel, probably one that some other Hunter forgot about. Feeling bitter and mad with herself, Thorn grabbed the carcass and tossed it away with all her might, her chest heaving. She closed her eyes and gave a low whine, before turning and running off after catching the scent of Splashwings and Aspen. She didn't want them to see her throwing a fit.

Maybe if I offer to join them? If they're together, maybe they're in a patrol.

However, anxiety overtook her, and the she-half-dog made a stupid decision and rolled around in some leaves and curled herself up by the roots of the tree she was yelling to herself at.

I'm definitely getting caught. Who am I, hiding from my clan mates! I act like a puppy.

Paleshadow stirred but didn't wake. She could hear her packmates calling out, but for the moment their voices were faint and distant. There would be plenty of time for hunting later. The downed she-wolf just wanted a few extra minutes of sleep before getting up and starting her day. Whoever examined her collapsed form would find three long gashes that trailed down her left shoulder from just beside her spine. Thankfully, though the wounds looked bad the biggest issue she faced was blood loss. No shot had actually stuck in her wounds when she was hit by the blast. That also unfortunately meant that the wolf she had tried to protect was hit by the rest, but she hadn't seen that happen before fainting the first time.

Sorrel looked uncertainly up at his mother with wide eyes as she told him to stay put. He nodded and said, "yes, mama." Normally he would have collapsed into giggles when she poked him with a paw, but for the moment he was still a bit afraid. Now he watched as Juniper went to help the others with Paleshadow.

"Cricket, what do you think?" Juniper asked. "I may be able to move her if others are injured but would that be the best option?" She looked towards the young herbalist, somewhat hesitant to put Paleshadow's survival on Cricket's paws but no one else really knew what to do.

Primrose glanced over at Mothvoices and smiled, "We'll go clean the herbalist den and try sort through what's left! You be careful though, we don't want you pulling open your wound." She started towards the den, pausing at Sorrel. "Juniper, I'll bring Sorrel along so you can concentrate there!" Juniper looked over briefly, "Thank you!" and Primrose turned back to Sorrel.

"Hi! I'm Primrose, I've only seen you around. Sorrel, right?" She asked, tail low but wagging happily.

Dune got up properly, heading back to his den. There wasn't much to sort through, he'd been saving up for when they needed it. But there was an open wound salve that was just lying there and a cough cure for that hunter. He picked the two up, setting them aside before going to double check if the herbs were actually sorted.

Aspen glanced over at the sound of rustling leaves but she ignored it. Too loud to be prey so it was probably just a scout messing around or something. "Let's head away from this trail and see if we can make another trail, maybe there'll be more prey hidden in the undergrowth." She said, veering towards the ferns.

There were some trails, definitely made by smaller animals but at least there was proof of life. Even as she thought, a small rabbit raced along in front of her. A little taken aback she lunged for it, picking the corpse up. "Definitely better than how I though that'd go. Do you want to continue and get something as well or turn back?" She asked Splashwings.

Theia shook out her pelt, having several leaves and twigs-- ...even PEBBLES littering her fur as she roamed over to where Primrose was. It were as if she were asking "What could I do now?" or "Anything you need help with?"

Quite an active Adolescent, isn't she? Without a mentor, seems like Theia was a very...work-motivated Apprentice.

Mottled, on the other hand, had went over to where her den was, focused on removing the blood from her own pelt to look more presentable and less concerning.

((Sorry, I had a busy day!!

EDIT; Jingo, that's fine!! I don't mind. As long as the others don't mind as well you can keep them. We probably won't get too many more people joining, so it's better to have positions filled.))

Cricket snapped to attention and began sniffing down Paleshadow's limp form.
"The fire metal of the humans ripped through her fur, and she's exhausted, but she's still with us." She thought for a moment. We're going to definitely need a healing salve. Maybe a some moss or leaves she could drink water from too, when she comes too."

"Now," She leaned down and pressed her form against Paleshadow's, "I do think we should move her somewhere to rest better. I'll have her lean on me, but I might appreciate someone on the other side of her. And we'll have to go slow. She needs to keep whatever blood is left in her."
