If you want nothing to do with the stat grind This is not meant to be a comprehensive battle guide - you can find that HERE - but rather a collection of strategy, tips, and tricks that worked for me! General OverviewOther than extremely rare explore encounters, the only way to gain stats on your lead is by winning battles against enemies that are a high enough level (more about that later). So you will want to conserve energy so you can find more enemies, and use plenty of lucky feet, healing salves, and a good battle strategy to ensure you win as many battles as you can.Table Of Contents |

Who to Pick for a Lead?In short: whoever you want! There are multiple strategies; all are valid. You should pick one that appeals to you and what you are most interested in. However, some options are easier than others. Most people universally recommend high strength as the top stat, followed by agility and smarts. I prefer in that order, but some people swear by smarts and think it tops agility as the second most important stat. I'll go over why in the strategy section. Speed does help in battles but less so, and wisdom does nothing. This has been Modbox confirmed.Easy: Buy a high-stat wolf that has already been trained and leveled, and crown them when your lead dies! You'll have a jumpstart on stats because they will have a higher baseline. Pros:

Some people like training their heir up to level 10 or so by scouting before making them lead. However, I disagree. Pack wolves are capped at two, or very rarely three stats per RO, and if you can play often enough leads can get many more than that. Additionally, you are missing out on your lead's lower levels, which could be the most lucrative stat-gaining window of their whole life. I explain why in the next section. |

Which Enemies to FightOnly fight the enemies that have the chance to award a stat! This is dependent on your lead's level. For leads levels 1-18
For leads levels 19-20

Miscellaneous TipsThe biome you are in dictates which enemy types you find, and certain enemy types drop certain stats. For example, bears and walruses mostly award strength, and snakes and felines often give agility. For this reason, you can (somewhat) control the stats you get by selectively exploring in certain biomes. Glacier heavily favors strength; Erő here explored almost exclusively there. While in the rainforest you run into anacondas and jaguars, which bias agility (although to a lesser extent than glacier with strength). This can be seen from Gabre here, who mostly liked to explore the rainforest. If you would like a general idea of which enemies drop which stats, Here's a log every stat Advesperascit gained - all 1474 of them - and what enemy he got them from. I mostly explored in the rainforest, glacier when I had a scout in the rainforest, and a little tundra when I needed food. This log is from a whopping 7,390 battles won versus enemies of the correct level, so 19.9% of victories ended up with a stat. |

Dice Image GalleryThe first roll checks one of your stats against the enemy's (dependent on enemy type; for instance, bears often use strength and felines speed and agility). Here, even though Advesperascit has a +1 to strength, he rolled a one (+1 modifier for a total of 2) and lost the roll, so the bear got to make a special attack.Because he (barely) won the agility check with a roll of 3 +1, he dodged the special attack and didn't get insta-bled (this is why I like agility!) Now here, Advespreascit won the first move and gets to pick a special attack. I chose focus and succeeded, then got him to bleed with latch and crush... And now he has basically a +3 on waiting, making it impossible to lose. (This is why some people like smarts!) The focus is there, but the box is too small to show it! Because even if I roll a 1, with the +1 focus and -2 (from the enemy) of badly wounded, that's a 4 which is always a good outcome. If you don't get a successful focus, you can still achieve this with a double bleed and a lucky foot, or a single bleed plus another enemy debuff like tired or scattered and a lucky foot. You should always look at the dice rolls to see what modifiers you are getting and adjust your strategy as necessary! As soon as you have the +1 strength for latch and crush your battles will get significantly easier. |

I think it is completely doable to get a high stat and fully pup trained G2 onto the leaderboards in its current state with little guarana - only dedication and persistence. However, if it continues to be this ridiculously competitive, you likely won't get into the top 3, possibly top 5, without a decent stash of guarana or a frankly unhealthy dedication to the grind. I stopped using guarana after he got to 2,000 stats and he still managed to get quite a lot. To spare you the math, Advesperascit used 242 guarana. I probably didn't buy all of them, but that's still probably over 1,000 GC. Take heart, though: I didn't spend a single cent of IRL money on it, and he ended up making it back in stud fees. So this can be a lucrative proposition. I hope these numbers are interesting to you! Best of luck, and godspeed. The indicated number of battles won are only counted on enemies no less than 5 levels below what Advesperascit was at the time. However, I was incorrect, and when your lead is < level 19, stats are only gained from enemies THREE levels below. I unfortunately can't go back and look it up because the battles are past the page image of my user log, so that's probably why the percentages are skewed lower below level 20.
