Imo, bring on the mpreg.  I can't think of any reasonable argument against it in a game that doesn't care about biology in the first place.

Oh how about something lore heavy, an encounter in the lunar realm where you have to 'prove the wolves love' by paying lunar tears then the encouter creature  'merges the wolves essence' and presto pup. It works with the lore, doesn't punish samesex pair bonds and technically doesn't involve mpreg. 		Timewaster

Either this or maybe like how Lioden's males and female look different and they have a "Test Frog" that makes a male of female look like the opposite gender. I mean I know that both males and females in Wolvden look the same but maybe a slight appearance change, like how male wolves are typically larger than female and have a fluffier body.
But I very much support this idea and would love to have this feature. Though I don't think it should be an item. Maybe an event thing and if you complete the quest you unlock the feature of same sex breeding.

I really really don't like the idea of introducing separate art for male and female wolves, even if the change is slight. It would accomplish the complete opposite of the inclusivity we want from a same sex breeding item or feature - it would create a larger gender divide. The lab test frog item you proposed likewise wouldn't actually address the issue of wanting the sex marker on the wolf, and accompanying pronouns, to be the same sex as the wolf's partner.

I think unlocking it somehow, and having this be available as a constant feature rather than a single use item, is a really fun idea! Sort of like another step after unlocking pairbonds


Re: earlier conversations about mpreg, even if you personally are fine with it, a lot of the "no" votes have been from people saying mpreg is too unrealistic. That's why I think it's not the best idea!

Also @Timewaster - I think something lore heavy is a really cute idea, but I do not think same sex couples should have to "prove their love" while different sex couples do not have to do so. Also, having the pups just appear would run into the problems that we've spent most of this thread discussing - how to keep things fair with pregnancy time, nursing & weaning time, and pup surivial being tied to their mothers, as those are core game mechanics.

True, true. I did not think of that, my bad. But at least many of us agree to wanting it to be a feature rather than an item.
And abut the people that say no to this...we have lunar wolves, mutations, unnatural colors, and even an anthro wardrobe. It's not like it can get any more unrealistic.

Nah no worries - a lot of people have suggested similar things, including people suggesting radically different art for male and female wolves (personally icky to me considering that wolves aren't a sexually dimorphic species) so I just want to make it clear why I think it's a bad idea, even though it may seem like the first logical choice!
But yeah we even have canon trans & gay wolf NPCs! This really feels like the next logical step c: the game is pretty unrealistic already, why not let queer people be represented?


Also everyone, I'll try to go through all the thoughts, conversations, and suggestions tonight and get a FAQ/common discussions section up on the first post so people don't have to read through all 9 pages just to be caught up lol!

I fully agree with you. Plus I'm sure a development such as this would bring many people together and make many happy.
Honestly I think it should be added to the next Valentines Day event since that event is all about love and mates. As you said there are already mentions of polyamorous mates in that event plus some of the dateable wolves are trans/nonbinary. It only fits to be able to change a wolves gender to something other than the default male or female. But this is only my opinion, I'd love to hear others thoughts on it.

I really really want to be clear that we are not suggesting mpreg - we are suggesting a surrogate mother system for M/M couples
