Hi! The first little while it feels tough to catch any prey in hunting, but once your wolves get some experience it gets a lot easier! For now, I'd recommend sticking to Critter trails because they are the easiest, especially when just starting out. Also make sure the wolves in your hunting party don't have clashing personalities (you can learn more about this in some guides). You can also find a fair amount of food in Explore which is very helpful if your hunters aren't having any luck! I normally sell my extra food to Raccoon Wares to make SC and also sell more expensive things in the Trading Centre.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you need anything else :)

This does actually I need to find a hunting personality guide to see if I need to switch anything around thank you. Do you know how hungry wolves have to before they decide to leave? I don't want to sell my extra food and be left stranded.

Here's a little section from one of the guides about that:

At 30% hunger or 30% mood remaining, a wolf will gain an icon to signal that they need to be fed or played with soon. At 10%, a wolf will gain an additional warning icon indicating that they may leave on the next rollover if they're not taken care of. A wolf will leave at rollover if they have 0% mood or hunger going into the rollover.

I usually feed all my wolves and then after that I sell some of the food I have that doesn't have very many uses. For example, I'll sell the eggs and one use items like weasel carcasses, but I'll keep larger animals like deer or beavers that I've found while exploring.
