Improvements to Group Forum Topics

Improvements to Group Forum Topics
Posted 2022-04-15 09:35:57
I just started using the group feature, and while the forums are a fun addition I think they could be improved in a few ways for usability and a better sense of community. Basically, I would like to make them more like chatter and have features added that are already present in the non-group forums. A few ideas I have are:

  • The ability to edit posts and announcements
    • Please please please, I assumed this would be available from the beginning and I was very confused when I found that even as the owner of a group I wasn't allowed to edit my own posts. I want to make a master post of resources or records for group members and edit the top post to keep up with current events and updated information and such, but I can't do that currently. Plus I like to go back and edit to make myself more clear, or make small changes instead of making a whole new post.
    •
  • Enable subscriptions and notifications for certain topics
    • Just like in chatter, it would be nice to have the choice to get a notification on threads when someone posts on them! It would just be a button click, so you could unsubscribe at any time, and only subscribe to the threads that really interest you. Currently, the group forum system still feels sort of disjointed and honestly worse that regular chatter because there's no real way to have everyone there and chatting at the same time. If you join multiple groups, you have to keep checking back or refreshing the page to see if anyone posted anything, which seems like a nightmare to keep up with. Since the forums are the only type of interaction we have within these groups, it would be great to make them more interactive for users who want to.
Have page links at the top and bottom of the page
  • Currently, the page numbers/links are only present at the top of the page. This is inconvenient when you scroll to the bottom and want to click to the next page.
Thank you for your consideration!

Yes, yes, yes!! I just started a rp focus clan, and there being no way to edit or get notification for replies or announcements seems weird.  I hoping these will be added soon!

I would also like to add, that being able to pin topics and announcement  as an admin would also be helpful. I want to be able to pin important topics to the top of the page to make sure everyone has seen them.

Huge support -especially notifications. I cant even tell when someone has either made a new thread or responded to one. The dates of last response doesn't show unless you go in each thread to look. I've started adding the date to beginning of each new one I start so everyone can tell when it was posted. I have no idea if anyone has responded to any right now. It's kind of useless to be honest.

Ngl I haven't checked the forums of my groups for weeks because I have to click click click through them and attempt to remember how many posts there were beforehand and ain't nobody got time for that. I'd go so far as to say that the forums are extremely useless in their current state.

Group hordes are the only interesting thing right now but basically what happens is a few people donate things and a great majority of people just take something and run ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well huh. I didn't even really remember there was a hoard. And not like you can post something to remind everyone because they have no idea there has been a new post. Clans are awesome, but maybe needs a little more fine tuning.

Hello!

As group forum moderation tools and notifications were addressed via this development post, we will go ahead and lock this thread. If you have any suggestions concerning group tools or updates that are not addressed in that post, please feel free to make new suggestion threads for those ideas!
