We now have over a year of moon-themed events to speak of here at Wolvden, and seven special-themed bases that can be purchased at the Lunar Shoppe with currency earned during gameplay: Two light, two dark, and three medium. I had been (perhaps naïvely) hoping that after two, two, and two, that a new wave would be introduced that deviated from the old color scheme. Alas, I would be willing to bet that no one was surprised when the third medium base, Caelum, arrived and was. Yet again. Blue. After a whole year of this, it's honestly starting to get tired. The only special-tier bases we can consistently obtain and apply to our wolves have one very specific aesthetic that's hard to design away from. The lovely blue decors and backgrounds only really fit with each other. If you put a lunar decor on a non-lunar wolf, it looks weird and out of place. Even though I love the glowy blue stuff... if I want glowy red stuff, or orange stuff, or yellow, or green... I either can't, or need to turn to custom decors, which can't be earned through gameplay in the same way lunar tears can, which puts them under a greater barrier to entry. I do sometimes wonder if the staff team intends to make a bimonthly blue base for the entire duration of the game. If not, why not change it up sooner rather than later, when we don't have many monthly event bases to bolster the color spectrum of specials? This could even happen right now, without adding or changing anything about the current lunar world or encounters. Sure, everything right now has a slight blue sheen, but what about the rich colors already present in some of the encounters? Brilliant orange, yellow, and green oriole Stark white Arctic Pherris Wolf and its bright orange squirrel Black and pink woodpecker Subdued, muted-colored charged lynx Magenta cactus mushrooms Pink flowered raccoon Electric orange lunar maned wolf Deep Reds of the pherris enemies Orange/beige cat So why not incorporate these colors into lunar bases we can apply to our wolves? |

I was under the impression that the lunar applicator colours are more based on the environment than on lunar creatures (and the names kind of support that, they're very night/moon/sky themed). But the Lunar backgrounds are vibrant and replete with colours that could easily be used for really cool applicators: anything from deep to neon purples, magentas, pinks, reds, turquoises, teals, greens... When the Turquoise and Moonlight bases and Purple essence lunar decors came out I hoped we would be exploring those shades more, so it's a bit disheartening to be back to blues again. I really do hope at one point we get more variety. The lunar event eyes seem to be more varied than the base/markings, which is also a bit of a shame and a missed opportunity. A moonglow base would probably be really exciting! |

Gonna preface this by saying that blue is my favorite color, and I love the lunar bases we've gotten so far. If I want a blue wolf I have a ton of base + marking options to choose from. It's fantastic. But I also like variety. Since the blue part of the spectrum is pretty well covered, it'd be great to switch it up. It'd probably be more fun for the artists too? I can imagine they have all sorts of base ideas (pink bases! blood moon bases! a solar base that's brighter than tombac!) that they can't implement because they're stuck doing a lunar blue base every month. |

The eternally blue Lunar Events wouldn't be as much of a problem if we got new base and marking colors from... any other source. But we don't. Lunar events are literally our only source of new colors to put on wolves. Coigreach was almost half a year ago. We don't even get new markings from Raffle Studs anymore. (And we didn't get new colors from them except that random Henna Panda - what the heck was up with that? Why not more Henna marks?) It's also my personal gripe that it feels like Cool base colors were neglected because Lunar bases are also cool colors. We have half as many natural Cool base colors. This makes breeding Opal/Grulla/Serpentine way less exciting than breeding any other category. Having cool-toned lunar bases does not make up for this, especially if you want mostly natural looking bases with a slightly cool hue, like Grulla/Galena/Skarn. |

Also @GrayEmbers I theorized a while ago that the first three Special Bases were originally supposed to be T3 Cool bases, here's the link to that post (wow, almost a year old now). Given that Selene, Luna, and Losna were each a different Shade (light, medium, dark), and a now-deleted bug report on when Losna was first released that listed the base as Cool Dark instead of Special Dark, I feel (at least personally) that this was the case. |

Per the Game Development Guidelines, the developers are not currently accepting suggestions regarding new bases, markings, or other wolf attributes. As such, we will be locking this thread. You are welcome to post specific ideas for bases or markings once developers open up to these sorts of suggestions! Thanks! This is a moderator post. |
