When we awake, we’ll find ourselves in an unfamiliar field. There will be no signs of immediate life — and certainly not our own. It will then ultimately progress to present-day Boston, Massachusetts. It's summer. The universities are out. Tourists are plentiful. Humans are plentiful. We were human not long ago. Now we are... something else. And something has noticed. Something has taken interest. Someone sees personal gain in our turmoil and transformation.
As we emerge from our graves, the process of metamorphosis complete except for the lingering expelling of human fluids, it is seen that we've all been situated in a circle. This isn't a characteristic of turning; such a thing is usually solitary and intimate, and your sire remains to impart wisdom. Full of confusion, tumult, and new compulsions clawing at our insides, we must learn how to see that our arrival was borne through shades of grey.
We are but a myth with a long and bloody history; no antiqued story or glorified fictionalization could have prepared us. Predators, vultures, monsters... we are not simply "misunderstood souls." There is a truth to the stories. Our creators have fled without having followed the tradition of veiling us in their knowledge, and we are left to pick up the pieces. Why were our deaths so intricately orchestrated?
This is a vampire roleplay. It is not based on any single dramatization, novel, or piece of lore surrounding these creatures. We are newly born; there will be no Victorian-aged characters. I want this to be a sophisticated exploration with literate/semi-literate writing partners.
There is no disguising the predatory and dangerous nature of these creatures. I would be disappointed to see that aspect lost. However, in this fictional world, they hold onto pieces of their humanity... whatever personality, aspirations, or memories they had as humans, they still hold in their new form, to different degrees. Many of their human likes and dislikes remain, but in a memory sensation that they can learn to cling to or discard. These characteristics can almost entirely be lost, in some cases, usually if the vampires have formed very specific nests. They become corrupted even further.
I really treasure roleplays with underlying themes and plotlines. It wouldn't surprise me if Violetwood contorts into new twists as we go along. If you have any ideas, please let me know.
- Method of Creation: Through a vampire bite. Blood was consumed by both parties, the victim drained (and effectively killed), and then buried. 24-hours pass before reanimation. Other vampires in our world also might’ve been turned through a particularly violent death (though not our own, as it goes against the plot.)
- Unique Abilities: Increased strength and speed, heightened senses, mesmerizing eyes with hypnotic qualities, and accelerated healing. Elder vampires may develop other abilities. We do not have an
- Vampires Can: Enter churches, touch holy water, touch crucifixes, touch garlic, see their reflection in mirrors.
- Vampires Cannot: Day-walk, stay "awake" for more than 12-hours without beginning to weaken, touch silver (severe damage is done to their skin), physically reproduce (there is an extensive history to the relationships between sires and their offspring, but in this storyline our creators have abandoned us), enter a house belonging to a human unless invited (invitations can be rescinded; and if the house belongs to a vampire, there is no barrier.)
- How to Kill a Vampire: Wood or silver to the heart, beheading, burning, walking into the daylight.
- Feeding: New vampires have an appetite not seen in their older counterparts. They feel the urge to feed more frequently, and on larger quantities of blood. They can subsist on animal blood, but it weakens them, and it does not erase their true desire. New vampires will not willingly feed on it.
- Fangs: Retractable. Prone to lack of control in newborns.
- Visual Attributes: Gradually paling skin from the time of being turned, relative to the tone that they had as humans. Veins are darker and more prominent. Their lower eyelids and under-eye area tends to have a pink flush, making them look a bit tired, irritated, or sickly. Humans might describe them as luminous, in a sort of unearthly way.
- Made: The turning from human to vampire. - Nest: A group of vampires who live, hunt, and feed together, much like a pack. They grow even more aggressive than their loner equivalents. - Newborn: A recently created vampire. - Offspring: Also, children, child, progeny, heir. The humans transformed by their vampire sires. - Sibling: Also, sister, brother. Two or more vampires with the same sire. - Sire: Also, creator, maker. A vampire who transforms the life of a human. They can in isolated cases be referred to as mother or father, showing respect and indicating authority directly to the sire themself, but never parent.
